In Bloom

June 16, 2019 at 10:12 am by Claudia

Up close and personal with a gorgeous catalpa blossom. Like peonies, these blossoms aren’t around for long. Maybe a week or less. The other day, Don said that the scent is right up there with lilacs and peonies. And it is.

I’m going to try and get out there before it rains and take a photo of the tree in bloom. Wish me luck!

The clematis has been blooming like crazy – I’m sure it’s due to all the rain we’ve had.

The spirea is in full bloom, the Annabelle hydrangea flowers are getting bigger, and you can see some of the milkweed just to the right of the hydrangea.

I took these photos in the afternoon, when the sun was a bit too bright. I’d just finished mowing and I’d mowed a lot. Then Don came home and mowed the rest, which was also a lot. So, between the two of us, we did the entire property in one day! But we knew rain was coming and, if the forecasts proves true, we’re going to see rain for much of this week, so it was now or never.

We were tuckered out and fell asleep while watching a movie.

Don is at the farmer’s market today, so cross your fingers that it doesn’t rain too much. He really likes taking pictures there and will be disappointed if it’s a wash-out.

Happy Sunday.

Hope the rain and gloom stays away for Don today.

We have a gloomy and very cool day so far here. I am sitting here with a sweatshirt and have a blanket nearby. Crazy!!

My spirea is in bloom, too. So pretty!! The Catalpa tree next door isn’t blooming yet. It is a beautiful scent once it does bloom!

I don’t think we are supposed to get over 75* all week. Those temps are great, but there is a chance of rain almost every day, which is not so great. At least the grass is beautifully green!! Have a great Sunday!!

The farmers market was rained out, unfortunately! Thanks, Chris.

Chris said all that is to be said! The only thing about all this rain is the remarkable growth of everything. Except for my Japanese maples. They were done in by the last winter. Mowing every 4 days or so is crazy, but has to be done. But, my hydrangeas have never looked better. Just have to keep the deer away from eating the buds…grrr!

Hope Don has good luck today…enjoy yours! ;)

Rain, rain, rain. That’s all we get around here!

The deer have been chomping on some of my plants. I caught a young one right in the act!

I have never seen a catalpa flower. It’s beautiful and strange. Looks like an unfinished iris with this yellow on the “tongue” if you see what I mean. I like it. Beau dimanche.

They’re really beautiful. I wonder if it’s a North American tree?

Before the rain—I can’t remember that far back! And I was much younger then. But I’m glad that you guys have had a little break in it, though. Love that catalpa blossom!

Just catching up and have to say that picture of Scout you posted yesterday is just lovely. How special to have someone do such a wonderful portrait of a friend who was such an important part of you life for so long.

Every spring I enjoy seeing your Catalpa pictures. Years ago there was one growing in the front yard of my best friend’s house and we spent many hours playing beneath it. Seeing your pictures (and imagining the heavenly smell) brings back so many great memories.

I ran outside today between the drops to snip a branch of Catmint for our kitty to play with. She rolled around with it, threw it into the air, and generally had a good old time, lifting some of the rainy day gloom permeating the house. Now she’s snoring happily.

    to grace …
great work and such a kind gift!

claudia, i agree with you about wind, but i’d take that rain from you if i could! just for me … our farmers don’t really need rain for a while.

hope the weather was on don’s side and you both had a lovely day. and more ahead.

Our farmers are suffering from flooded fields and too much rain.

The weather wasn’t on Don’s side, unfortunately!

The flowers are lovely. Our Lilies have started to bloom. There is rain predicted for most of the week.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
