Scenes from the house, photos taken yesterday afternoon.
Found on my walk.
Found on another walk.
Sunlight in the living room.
Bookshelves.
Succulents.
The temperatures dropped down to 29 degrees last night, so I hauled all the porch plants inside for the night. We’re currently covered in the impatiens department, thank you very much. I don’t know if I have the space – once it’s officially time – to overwinter all of these plants. There are a lot of them and there’s not a lot of spare surface here in the cottage. How will I choose?
We watched most of the Blue Jays vs. Royals game last night. We were cheering for the Blue Jays, as they are part of our American League East. But the Royals won. Reader Deb will be very happy as she is a big Royals fan. Next week: the World Series, where we will jump leagues and root for the Mets.
In the meantime, I’m having a sleepy start to the day. It’s been hard to wake up!
For those of you who would like to hear Don’s Interview on Woodstock Radio, here is the link. It’s the October 22 show, right at the top of the page. Lisa Wexler, the host, is a friend of Don’s, so you’ll hear them banter back and forth throughout the show. I hope you enjoy it.
Happy Saturday.

I love how you bring interesting things from your walks inside to enjoy! It’s sunny here today and I’m picking up the baby at 1pm to give Sara a little break. I need to empty into the compost area some of the ‘dead’ planters. A little yard clean up this weekend before the rain hits again! I will listen to Don’s interview, sounds like fun!
hugs,
Linda
Linda @ A La Carte says
Claudia, I’m also on my 2nd cup of coffee this morning! It’s a slow Saturday for me!
Claudia says
Me too. Two cups of coffee and I feel like I could have a third (but I won’t.)
Linda @ A La Carte says
I’m enjoy Don’s interview! I mean I’m learning so much. Like he will be on The Good Wife (love that show) and that he wrote that beautiful song for you (sigh). I knew he was funny and he really is clever and quick. I’m crafting as I listen. Fun!
Claudia says
I’m so glad you’re enjoying it, Linda. He’s pretty cool and it’s great for all of you to get the chance to know him better. Thanks so much for listening!
Claudia says
It’s still too cold to take the plants back out to the porch. Looks like I’m going to have to wait a couple more hours!

Lovely photos! Your home always looks so pretty and inviting.
I was catching up with mini blogs last night and Pepper kindly posted a link on her blog to Mini Mishmash from the Netherlands. There you can read (and see!) instructions about building a mini stereo so of course I thought of the TSP.
There is a real (almost bitter) east/west rivalry where I live when it comes to issues of government and the economy, but as a nation we are gripped by Blue Jays fever at the moment. So thanks for the cheer! Lovely that they made it so far this year.
Thank you for posting the link to the radio show. The pharmacies in town all offer free flu shots and, as the vaccine was available earlier than expected, I opted to have mine last evening. They must have changed it up a bit as my arm is quite sore this morning. So instead of reorganizing the spare closet as planned, I’m going to opt for a second cup of coffee while listening to the radio show. I have the shot every fall as I have a compromised immune system and an employer who has a zero tolerance for sick days. Unless he’s sick. And then we have to hear all about it because no one in the history of the world has ever had a cold like him. Is that a guy thing?
Happy Saturday to you!
Claudia says
I saw that link and have been reading Mini Mishmash’s posts – I have to give that stereo a try!
Feel better, Barbara. And yes, I think it’s a guy thing!
Barbara W. says
Thanks Claudia!
I just finished listening to the radio interview with Don. That was really cool listening to him sing live. What a great voice. And he’s so funny! Ready for the radio? Made for the radio!
Claudia says
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Barbara. He’s the funniest man I know – I’ve often said that he can make me laugh so hard that I have to beg him to stop. He’s a great guy.

Those look like albino Chinese lanterns. I only bring in my 40 year old Christmas cactus, everything else, impatients ( is that spelled correctly?) and geraniums are one season only plants. I have tried to save geraniums but it never works so I have given up. Excuse me “Go Mets”. I am a Mets fan from the 80’s and I like the National League, like to watch the pitchers bat. Stay warm, getting chilly here in RI, husband just removed screen door with cat door to regular glass. Cats now have to wait for the doorman to open door, that would be us……..The porch door is a french door multi -paned glass so at least we can see them sitting there staring at us.
Claudia says
I think they are Chinese Lanterns, Mary. By the way, I’ve managed to overwinter my impatiens for 2 years now and they bloom again in the spring when I pinch them back and put them on the porch. It’s my way of saving money and also – I hate leaving a potted plant outside to die. So you CAN overwinter them, if you’re at all interested. I think my potted geraniums might be a plant I have to let go of, however.
Donnamae says
You have lovely morning light! We’ve had a few minutes of sunshine…otherwise falling temps and a few sprinkles. I’ll be sure to catch Don’s interview a little later…I have to bake an apple pie first! Yum! ;)
Claudia says
It’s cold here today, Donnamae, and we have rain in the forecast for tomorrow. We raked more leaves, cleaned the gutters, then I put the plants back out on the porch and vacuumed all the little plant bits that were everywhere. Hot chocolate for me today!

Lovely lighting in your photos. I just woke up and am already thinking of coffee, when I read through the comments about second cups already! I recently bought a 17-oz double-walled stainless Bodum French press, and I absolutely love e little guy. He looks pretty on my kitchen counter and makes just enough coffee for my morning routine. Go Mets!
Claudia says
I used to use a French Press many years ago and loved it. In fact, I wonder where that French Press is? I had gone to England and the friend who I stayed with in London had one. I was intrigued by the whole concept (this is well over 20 years ago) and it seemed somehow exotic and foreign. Go Mets!

Your house is so cozy; you have things you love all around you which is exactly what a treasured home should be, and it’s wonderful that you find such connection with the natural world and can know just where to highlight a beautiful autumn leaf for the time it has left with its color. Do you pretty much break a sweat every day for exercise, either with the intensive yard work or out on a long walk? As I’d said before, you seem to be in remarkable physical shape. I’m interested because I’m not, and need to be, so I like to see what’s working for other women in my age group.
I understand about what can be saved and what cannot in frost/freeze. I seem to always lose something and it’s hard to have to move a lot of pots for protection. I’d get to where sometimes, day in and day out, I’d just give up, throw a sheet over them and hope for the best. My problem now is the fruit-bearing trees which are too young to survive a hard freeze. I have a not-too-hardy cherimoya and lemon/orange/avocados that are getting tall enough to where it’s hard to cover them. So, my husband and I will be putting our heads together and will have to come up with some kind of idea about teepeeing them somehow.
I’m facing another 90+ degree day here today in SoCalif. It never ends.
Claudia says
I don’t think of myself as being in remarkable physical shape. In fact, I think I need to GET in shape! I do a lot of mowing and raking and walking and physical things outside the house, especially in the spring – fall. I love to walk. But I should walk much more often than I do and I can be very sedentary if I don’t watch it. It’s especially hard here in the winter months, which seem to go on forever. when taking a walk can be dangerous with snow and ice. I just like to mow, like to walk, and like to do things on the property. I think of myself as rather out of shape, but Don always says I’m much stronger than I think and that I have a lot of stamina.
Nancy Blue Moon says
I think I will be needing extra coffee today too Claudia…I feel like I am dragging my whole body around today…I’m thinking this would be a good day to snuggle up with a warm quilt and read…I’m making tacos for supper/dinner (we call it supper here) so that will be easy…
Claudia says
Boy, I understand, Nancy. It’s been a slow going day for me, too, though I made myself tackle some leaf raking and, with Don, gutter cleaning. But I feel sort of foggy….I think it’s going to rain tomorrow and it’s very gray here, so that is most likely contributing to my grogginess. Enjoy those tacos, Nancy!
Deb says
YES Claudia, I am happy and thanks for the shout-out! The whole town is ecstatic and everyone is moving a bit slower around here. Much coffee needed in KC today. I am on cup #3. Of course I am biased, but that game had A LOT of drama in it and I would think any baseball fan would have at least appreciated it. And wouldn’t it be awesome to have nerves of steel like our closer Wade Davis! Glad I get a few days off to catch up before the World Series. I don’t know much about the Mets yet – so look forward to getting to learn about them. A fun week ahead for sure! Have a great weekend!
Claudia says
Oh, it was a dramatic game! The only reason I didn’t watch the whole thing was because of that rain delay. Otherwise, I would have been there for the whole thing. So happy for you, Deb. Drink your coffee, take it slow, and bask in your win!
Susie says
Claudia, Loved the photos. It’s cooling down some here, a front is moving thru. It’ll be a sad with the leaves falling like crazy. Today I am so draggy…I’ve been sick for a week with something, not sure what…the nurse said to take some decongestant and Flonase till Monday. Hope your coffee woke you up…I would love a fancy coffee from Starbucks right now. LOL. Blessings to you , xoxo,Susie
Claudia says
I hope you feel better soon, Susie.
It’s rainy today, so the leaves are coming down in droves.
Dawn says
Can you make room on your book shelves for all the summer flowers?
Claudia says
They’re gone, Dawn. Killed off by the hard freeze. Too depressing!
