This is the sky the morning after the last snow. We were out early shoveling and snowblowing, The one saving grace? The spectacular sun and clear blue skies. No filters on this pic – this is exactly how it looked that morning.
Like much of the country, we are in the middle of extremely frigid temperatures and this trend doesn’t look like it’s going to end anytime soon. My hands are still ice cold as I type this. And there’s talk of another storm that’s going to be spreading across the country – west to east – which might bring lots of snow on Sunday into Monday.
No, thank you, Mother Nature. We have enough on the ground.
I keep telling Don that this winter is starting to remind me of the “Boston Winter.” That’s the winter Don was away in Boston and I was holding down the fort here. I had to buy a rake for the roof because there was so much snow there. I shoveled a path for Scoutie that turned into a tunnel, it was so deep. The day I remember most was when we had yet another heavy snowfall and I had to shovel the driveway because I had to be in Hartford with Scout the next day. After working and working and seeing hardly any results I just stood there and cried. It seemed so hopeless. I waved the white flag of surrender and asked my neighbors for help. They came to my rescue.

I’ve been thinking of Scout a lot lately. It doesn’t seem possible, but she left us in February of 2016. She’s been gone 10 years. I miss her every day.
That means my Dad has been gone 10 years as well. And mom? 11 years. And Riley, 14 years.
The years go by so quickly, something I am reminded of all the time as I realize how limited our time here is.
I can’t write about the horrors in this country. It’s too hard. And I’m desperately trying to cling on to some semblance of hope.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

It is cold…and snowy here, too. Can’t seem to warm up some days. I seem to get colder the older I get…almost wish I would get a hot flash like in the olden days lol.
I do remember you writing about Scout’s tunnel….great picture.
Stay warm, and try and keep thinking positive thoughts. Enjoy your day! ;)
Me too! I feel the cold more and more as I age. I think Don does, too, but he is a Southern California boy, after all.
Darned if I could find that picture on the blog, but I know it’s here somewhere!
Stay safe, Donnamae.
stay safe with those temperatures and snow-removal!
and that photo of your sweet scout … oh!
i certainly don’t like the hardships it causes, but personally i love winter. it’s easily my very favorite season. i function/feel much better in cooler weather, love snow’s beauty and winter sports, and find permission to stay put when i want in these months. and i love walking in it … it was 19 degrees this morning and less than five degrees when we walked on sunday. :)
stay safe in every way, everyone.
kathy
I’m glad you love winter, Kathy. I love aspects of it, but I tire of it very quickly. So does Don. And all of clean up after it snows takes its toll on us.
Stay safe!
day by day, spring is getting closer for you two!

There is always hope. It’s scary how fast the years go by. It’s nice we all have lovely memories. Hope the winter weather abates a bit. We’re supposed to get a blast of it today. And, it’s so cold! Stay cozy. Hugs, Elaine
It’s crazy cold out there, Elaine!
Stay warm!
And stay safe.
Perhaps it is time for a new dog to enter your and Don’s life? That is what we are planning for next Summer. A joyful spark in the midst of the insanity in the world caused by the current administration?
We discuss a dog from time to time, but until we feel more strongly about it, we’re going to pass. We love dogs, and we miss having a dog – to a degree. But we don’t have children, nor anyone else who would provide a home for a dog we loved should we pass on.
And we waffle on the subject so much, that it clearly isn’t the right choice for us at them moment.
Stay safe, Madge.
I understand completely Claudia. We will be getting a rescue dog through an animal shelter. We are still discussing whether to get a young dog or an adult dog and our age is one of the reasons. No need to rush the decision, there are always animals in need. Currently there are so many animals needing homes in our county that the shelters are giving them away for free. In past years (decades, lol) when I was ready and looking for the right dog, I’ve made more than one trip to the shelter to see what was available at the time. No need to decide unless you are absolutely sure that you want another pet. Good luck and try to stay warm with all that snow!
Thank you so much, Madge!

2015 must have been a hard year for you with your dad and Scout. We never stop missing them — it has no timetable.
Wish I had your skies! All Michigan gray here. And cold as all get-out. I’m glad I’d picked up a big box of handwarmers. Between those and the heating pad I’ve been reasonably OK inside. Best bucks I spent this fall, those handwarmers!
Keep cozy!
Well, those blue skies were a couple of days ago. Today it was gray, gray, gray!
I wore fingerless gloves when I was writing the blog today.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
Goodness, I’ve been reading your blog for such a long time! Riley was still here. My dog passed right before Riley and I couldn’t read the blog for weeks. Too heartbreaking.
We have an extreme cold watch here. Temps barely above zero. We’re getting too old/tired/bored of this winter nonsense. I’m looking into a short term rental in AZ next Jan/Feb. Wouldn’t that feel so nice right about now?
Ugh. My mother (in her 80s) is an Ultra MAGA. That’s what 20+ years of continuous Fox News exposure will do. So disheartening and disappointing. I read comments on other blogs and the support for this regime is maddening!
Take care, Claudia and thanks for always keeping in touch.
It’s hard to believe that anyone could still be a MAGA at this point, but I know they’re out there. Sorry you have to deal with that.
We are also in extreme cold and have a forecast of 12-18 inches of snow on Sunday.
Unfortunately, we could never go away for long in the winter as we live in an old house and our pipes would freeze!
Stay safe, Kelli.
dear Claudia/Don — your pixs are so pretty BUT 70s with sunshine is my kind of weather!! Sort of like you — can enjoy 1st snow but then I’m done HAHA — Mother Nature must be laughing so much at me this winter — bring on spring!! love the pix of Scout — she looks like her fur coat was great protection for her. we have had many little loves in our life and they leave many memories on our hearts when they leave us — always very hard for me to recover but I Never forget them. Hope you all get over this cold/snowy time — it is gonna happen here too, not a fan and am SO over it!!
Will there be a US (as we knew it) in the future?? Very discouraging.
Stay safe, healthy, warm
We are due for 12 – 18 inches of snow on Sunday.
I hate it.
Stay safe, Linda.
I can remember when we lived in Illinois that we would have to dig paths out just so the dogs could go outside. I do miss the snow sometimes but not like you are having now. Do you guys have a fireplace? I could only watch part of that awful speech today. What an embarassment to our country. The only good news today is Chris came home. Stay warm!
No, we don’t have a fireplace.
Glad Chris is home, Deb.
Stay safe.
