It’s Here

May 24, 2019 at 10:55 am by Claudia

We’ve just been through a flurry of activity! In anticipation of the sofa delivery, I vacuumed the old sofa, then we put a tarp down and moved the sofa outside to the cement walkway near the kitchen. Then, we covered it with a fitted sheet. That should hold it until Don and his friend move it tomorrow. No rain in the forecast.

Then things like vacuuming the floor, moving things out of the way. And, with a window of 9am – 1pm, the delivery guys arrived at 9! Huzzah! A father and a son, who couldn’t have been nicer.

I snapped a few quick pictures for you.

It’s an English roll arm sofa, a style I have loved for a long time. We ordered sunbrella (indoor/outdoor) fabric in a shade called Cactus. Not really because it was sunbrella, but because we liked the color. We didn’t want beige or white or gray or brown. We wanted color. Since the color looked slightly different in every photo we saw online we were praying that the reality would be what we wanted.

It is. This pop of spring green is just what we’re aiming for.

It’s longer and deeper than our old loveseat but it seems to take up much less space than we thought it would. – which is a great thing! The difference turns out to be minimal.

We are thrilled. Eventually the cushions will be more cushy and English sitting room-y. Our backs are very happy with this new addition to our house. Such great support!

After 10 weeks of waiting, we couldn’t be happier with how the whole thing turned out.

Since we rarely get anything new and have never had anything made-to-order, this is a big deal for us and it’s one of those times we say “Does this mean we’re adults now?”

Yes, even in our sixties, we say that. Late bloomers always.

Happy Friday.

I loooove the sofa! For me, that is the perfect green, too! Oh, it looks spectacular in its new home. Congrats! Isn’t it the best whenever you get your delivery at the early end of the time span?

The green is even better than we thought it would be! A little scary ordering online. They sent us swatches, but we didn’t get a swatch of this fabric – just a photo.

So great when it’s early! Don could go ahead and run his errands, I could go outside and work and best of all, we could look at it!

Also, this is officially 5 days earlier than it was originally scheduled! Huzzah!

We didn’t want to reveal the color and we weren’t sure how it would look when it got here! We’re very happy.

Our only new purchases – the sofa in the den (25 years ago), the mattress and box springs, and the old loveseat, which I purchased over 30 years ago. That’s it!

It’s lovely…the perfect shade of green. Like new budding leaves. You’ll have spring time all year long. And it’s comfortable to boot…perfect.

Raining here today, but I’m thankful for it…it forces me to stay inside and do some much needed putzing.

Hope you have a nice relaxing day planned. Enjoy your new sofa! ;)

As with so many of the things you bring into the cottage, this, too, looks as if it was made for the place and simply finally found its way home! The color is just lovely!!

We have a lot of thunder and lightening going on here and some heavy rain. Sat and Sun are supposed to be relatively rain free (seeing will be believing). Will FINALLY be planting this weekend. The veggies were planted last week, but except for a few hanging baskets, not a flower has been planted in this yard. SO unusual. Rain, rain, go away!!!!

Well, we didn’t pick it for that reason – it’s deeper due to the roll arm design. They’re just built that way. But I’m sure Don appreciates more leg room! Thanks, Melanie!

I love your new sofa. I have such a hard time picking green for anything. It never seems to be what I want when I get it whether it’s paint on a wall, a spread on a bed, or even a sweater. Your green looks just perfect in your space. I write this from my newly reupholstered beige couch wishing I had more courage. Maybe I’ll try some pillows. 🙂

it has that word I hate but no other quite can match it sometimes. yes. it has ‘class.’
the whole cottage does! it’s cozy. but it has such a strong sense of the good things in life.
art and books and plants and music and photography and the film world. (and LOVE!)
all the things that make the good life good! and now everything is tied together by that sumptuous color of green!
I was gone out of town all day yesterday and then the evening was spent with warnings of storms and tornadoes. just now getting to visit here.
and now I’ve written another book!!! are you publishing them? LOL! xoxo

Do you happen to recall which length you got? I’ve currently got a loveseat and with my new house, can go a bit larger, but not too large…

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
