It was very sunny when I took this photo and the temp was in the low 80s. Too hot for this time of year. I’m afraid we have to deal with this for 3 days. On Thursday, it’s going to reach 88 degrees.
Both of us have been working outside but we’re sore, so we must try to be sane about the whole thing. I potted the pansies and some calibrachoa that I got at our nursery, along with a big bag of potting soil, some new gardening gloves, and some morning glory seeds. Still have to get – most likely next week – some zinnia seeds, the impatiens that are a big part of the porch, some purple lobelia, geraniums, and at some point some plants for one pot in the secret garden. I’m only doing one this year to save money. And one of my standard hanging plants. The other hanging plants will come from the flat of impatiens. I’m pretty budget conscious about all of it. But as Don said, the look of the flowers on the porch is a big deal to us. We spend a lot of time out there and we draw comfort from them.

I potted these in the wrong pots! I have to change them out tomorrow afternoon. The pots I normally use are larger.
I’ll tend to that in the afternoon after I finish my coaching session at 11:00 am.
I’m actually writing this on Tuesday afternoon and I’ll schedule the post for 8 am on Wednesday. I have too much to do before I have to coach to fit in writing a post, as well.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

I want to look for more perennials to put in this year so I don’t have to replace annuals each year. I’m not much of a gardener so I’m not sure how that will work but I always enjoy the plants that come up on there own each year. :)
I’ve always planted perennials. They really pay off in the long term. Except for cleaning up the garden beds in the spring, I have to do very little because they perform.
Stay safe, Ellen.
i’m happy for you to have flowers, plans for more gardening and some coaching work. also the beacon hill, books and especially your don!
strongly feel the same about the heat … too much, too soon!
we had wonderful rain last night. hours of it with lots of lightning and thunder. will probably get humid today and the air smells like worms, but worth it. things are looking so green and pretty!
happy, safe wednesday!
kathy
Yes, suddenly everything here is very green. Love it.
Stay safe, Kathy.
Don is exactly right about the importance of the flowers on the porch. You remind me I have to get pansies!
I promised myself I WOULD NOT complain about the heat after this winter. We will see if I hold to it. (Observations, OK! Complaints, no!) I’ll probably flunk that one by June if things keep going the way they are.
Oh, I’ll complain about the heat. I may as well admit it.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
So pretty……Love the iron planter…….jardiniere? It has that French cottage/ garden conservatory vibe. It is so romantic and elegant. “Old World” without being fussy. Can’t wait to see the full porch. Take it slow…. this sudden heat can knock you out. I planted Lavender to keep the rabbits away but wish I had a planter like yours…..so they can’t reach them. Last spring it was an all-you -can eat buffet.
Keep cool/Maria
It will take a while to finish the porch. We’ve had a three day heat wave and on Sunday and Monday we’ll have below freezing temps at night.
Next week, I’ll start to get there.
Stay safe, Maria.
84F here in NW CT. Much too hot for the middle of April.
I also bought a flat of flowers for my baskets. as my mom would say, “great minds think alike”
Bringing my dog to the vet for checkup and hoping all is well. He’s been sleeping a lot.
Hope your coaching went well; glad you are able to do what you enjoy.
Take it easy in the heat.
I hope your dog’s checkup was a positive one, Betsy.
Thanks so much.
Stay safe.
Flowers are good for the soul!🪻🌷🌼
They are, indeed!
Thanks, Judy.
Stay safe.
Pleased you have a coaching job, Claudia. How many days of coaching?
Love the colorful flowers. I just bought some sweet William, and pink cushion flowers. They’re bursting after the heavy rains and now sunny days for about a week. I splurged on a peony also because the ones I have didn’t flower last year. You know how it goes sometimes, my existing peonies are budding! The one rose I have, given to me by my close friend of 55 years (!) when my MIL died, is also budding like mad. It’s the Audrey Hepburn variety. I’d like more roses but don’t have room.
I am jealous that you have a porch! And a secret garden! And the bench at the edge of the field. So many great places to sit, co template, read, drink coffee.
Hope you aren’t exhaustingly hot because of the high temps. You know the drill…hydrate and don’t over-exert.
It’s just one-on-one coaching – 2 or3 days.
My very old peony bushes really don’t flower any more.
Stay safe, Wendy.
dear Claudia/Don — hotter than normal here — is spring over??? sure feels like it. your pansies are very pretty — so far, we have no potted plants but we have blooming bridal wreath and some lilacs look ready to open –wx man is thinking scattered frost Sun/Mon so no taking potted plants outside after being indoors all winter — they REALLY need to go out but will be a terrific shock to them at these temps. sure hope you all can have a good week. stay safe/healthy
We are getting frost on Sunday and Monday, so I’m holding off on more plants until that’s over. I can easily bring in the pansies and calibrachoa.
Stay safe, Linda.
