It’s Very Cold Out There

December 5, 2025 at 8:13 am by Claudia

Our reward on Wednesday evening for shoveling snow. Isn’t that glorious?

Shoveling wasn’t as bad as we had anticipated. The snow was not heavy and wet, thank goodness. We ended up shoveling and didn’t need the snow blower. It took us about an hour and a half to clear the driveway and the parking area, as well as shovel paths to the shed and the porch. My back was complaining, but I felt just fine on Thursday. No lingering side effects. We were quite proud of ourselves.

It is frightfully cold (6° as I write this) and will stay that way for a while, so no melting. Because it got so cold last night, the porch plants that were still hanging in there have finally surrendered. I brought the pansies indoors last night in case I could save them. It didn’t work.

The pansies get an award this season – they are the first flowers I potted in early April and they hung in there until this morning. They are real troupers. I just love pansies.

Today is the day we get our Christmas tree. But we’ll have to wait for a few hours – it’s too darned cold right now. I like to get the tree during the week because the nursery gets too crowded on the weekend.

Oh, and we had to deal with a couple of unknown purchases made on Don’s card. The bank was incredibly helpful and the card has been cancelled. He’ll get a new one next week. The “purchases” have been credited back to our account.

My hands are still cold as I type this! It’s taking a long time for the house to warm up.

Remember that series of photos I took last Christmas with the girls wearing a crown?

I added another. Audrey had to have her very own Queen for the Day photo.  Miyoshi will be up next.

Okay, my friends. I’m off to make our second cup of coffee.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Audrey looks so cute in her crown! The background is perfect too. It can be frustrating and unsettling to find unknown purchases on credit cards…so glad Don was able to find it quickly and get a new card. Six degrees is quite cold… stay warm and enjoy your coffee!

It took a while to figure out, but I was very pleased with our bank’s customer service.

      Thanks so much, Barrie.

      Stay safe.

oh, that is awful about someone stealing via don’s card!!! glad you two caught it and it’s been made better for you.

yes, glorious sunset and view! and audrey looks sweet, crown or no crown.

if the pansies get an award (which is certainly deserved), you and don sure earned one, too. how about “top driveway shovelers” or “quickest back bounce-backs”? :) glad it went well for you two.

have fun picking out your Christmas tree and decorating it!

errands this morning and (after “the waltons”) afternoon. need to get more ready for Christmas than i am, physically and emotionally. and pick up a few things ahead of the two to four more inches of snow we’re supposed to get tomorrow.

    happy, safe friday to everyone.

I crashed this afternoon after getting the Christmas tree. We’ve been busy every day and now I need a rest!

      Stay safe, Kathy.

It looks very cold and very pretty outside. Here it’s just endless days of rain. I think there was one dry day recently when I was able to plant some Spring bulbs in containers. I always cover them with holly leaves to stop the pesky squirrels from digging them up.

Audrey looks very sweet. Glad the bank sorted Don’s card quickly. My son often jokes that I am obsessed with scammers and over cautious. I don’t agree with him.

    Happy Friday

We’re pretty savvy about scammers. This, however, was someone who got a hold of Don’s card number – don’t know how, because it’s never out of Don’s possession. Infuriating!

      Stay safe, Dee Dee.

Audrey is looking very regal in her gold crown. What a beautiful sunset and you captured it perfectly. I had the same experience as Don did – unauthorized purchases on my credit card. I got through to them with no waiting and the charges were reversed, my card cancelled and a new one sent out to me. It’s very cold here today, too. Hope you found the perfect Christmas. Hugs, Elaine

You wonder how they get a hold of the card number! Glad it was resolved easily for you, as well.

      Thanks so much, Elaine.

The photo of the sky is just beautiful, thank you for sharing .
I’m glad the card situation was caught and taken care of before anymore damage was done. Why are there such terrible people ? It makes me sad and angry.
Audrey looks like she getting ready to be in a Christmas play.

    Take Care,
    Kaye

I don’t know why people want to do these things. It makes me angry.

Yes, maybe Audrey is the Christmas Angel!

      Stay safe, Kaye.

Audrey’s looking good! Our snow was the wet kind, so glad you did not have to deal with that! It sounds lovely, though. And a tree to come!

Maybe we all need a crown to wear?

      Thanks, Jeanie.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
