Jasmine, Darcy & Stitching

May 23, 2010 at 10:34 pm by Claudia

Certain scents evoke a strong response – a sense memory so strong that you are instantly transported to a place, an event, a time in your life. For me, Jasmine is one of those scents. You find it everywhere in San Diego. Night Blooming Jasmine reminds me of walking my dogs in the evening in my old neighborhood here in San Diego and walking through Balboa Park on my way to a performance. It reminds me of meeting my husband and stealing a kiss as we walked to our cars along the back road behind the theater. It is such a heady, glorious scent. It is one of my favorite things about being in San Diego.

We have finished our rehearsals in the rehearsal hall and will move onstage Tuesday for the beginning of tech rehearsals. Monday night is the memorial for Craig Noel, the founder of the theater. Several hundred people are expected. I look forward to seeing many old friends.

I see Darcy most every day. Here is a photo from my walk home today:

Awwww.

For the first time since I arrived here, I did some stitching. This is my project based on Theresa McFayden’s Freestyle Embroidery EZine. Since I will have more free time in the coming weeks, I hope to add more to it.

By the way, as I was yet again sitting on the sofa, I experienced another earthquake yesterday. This time I was talking to my husband on the phone and I told him it seemed worse than the last. It was. It was a 5.3 earthquake with a 4.5 aftershock.

I think 2 earthquakes are enough, don’t you?

    Claudia:
Love your sweet embroideries and Darcy’s latest photo op. I, too, love the jasmine’s heady fragrance. I have wonderful bushes growing right outside my studio windows. ahhhh.

I agree…two earthquakes is quite enough!

Have a great week, my friend.

I know you are staying busy and yes! two earthquakes in the short time you’ve been there is a bit to many….It seems like Mother Nature is quite unhappy lately…so many serious events.

    Have a wonderful day…

I’ve only felt one earthquake before. Kind of creepy and unsettling when they happen, especially since we lived in Arizona at the time and it happened in the middle of the night.

Absolutely they are enough! Oh, that is scary! I’ll be glad when you get home to NY and will be away from earthquakes. I love CA, but this the most frightening thing about being there. I felt the aftershocks of a San Francisco quake once, and it scared me a lot.

I love Darcy, and I love your needlework. Glad you are stitching again, Claudia.

    XO,

    Sheila

    Hello Claudia,

    Yes, enough indeed.

I think it’s sweet that you have those memories with just a single flower. And all of these memories are just lovely to look back.

    Mizpah,
    Li

(The embroidered flowers are adorable :-) )

I love it when a scent transports you to another time and place, and your story of yours and hubby’s stolen kisses – such precious memories!! I love the embroidery, so pretty! …and here’s hoping that is the end of the earthquakes, 5.3, that’s quite bad, yes?!! Please stay safe Claudia !xo

Definitely two quakes is enough Claudia! There seems to be a whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on lately.
Your stitchery project is so pretty. I’m sure it feels good to have a little time to relax and stitch something wonderful.
For me the scent of lilacs and mock orange remind me of days at my grandma’s house. I am always taken back to childhood when the lilacs are in bloom.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
