Lampshades, Dollhouse and a Cold

December 16, 2009 at 10:28 am by Claudia

The dreaded seasonal cold/sinus thing has hit me and I’m not happy. There is some shopping yet to be done and what am I doing? Sitting here wrapped in a shawl, blowing my nose. I insist that this thing leave my body within 24 hours – preferably sooner.

Thank you for all the wonderful comments on our Christmas Tree. As I write this post, I am gazing upon our pretty tree. I love it. Oh, and I’m sorry that many of you tried to get the bottlebrush wreaths at Big Lots to no avail. I guess I am one of the few that found a Big Lots with some still on the floor – perhaps my neighbors don’t fully appreciate the beauty of these babies?

When I scurried out to Target on Sunday to get more lights for the tree, I found the perfect shade for the parakeet lamp. Yes, I know I said that I had found the perfect shade before, but I was apparently mistaken. This is the perfect shade.

It is such a pretty, soft shade of gray. Thank you, Rachel Ashwell, for your Simply Shabby Chic line.

Perfect. And it allows for a bigger light bulb. The other would only fit over one of those pointy chandelier lights that get too hot. This one works with a regular old light bulb.

The warm, cozy light that comes from little lamps placed around a room is one of my favorite things.

The dollhouse has been temporarily moved to the top of the music cabinet. And now my husband is thinking we should use the dollhouse table as our coffee table here in the den. It does look nice there. That means we have to begin another dollhouse table search. Though nothing has been done yet to renovate the dollhouse, some Christmas decorating has been happening:

Oh yes, that is Paul McCartney looking out the window. Don thought Sir Paul should pay a holiday visit to the dollhouse. Maybe he’ll play us a tune or two.

Oh, Claudia, you are 100% correct – you hvae found the perfect shade for my lamp! I love it to pieces! Thank you!!! In all seriousness, I love the Simply Shabby Chic line, too – love the pleats of your shade, the soft color, and the shape!! Score!

Beeeeautiful lamp shade – perfect shape & size! Just hang out, drink tea and take in all the Christmas beauty that you have created around you! Soon that ol’ cold will be gone and you can have a sing-a-long w/ Paul. Hmmmmm, I wonder if he has one of those high squeaky voices since he’s dollhouse size. No matter. It will be fun.
    Take care, Claudia!

Our Big Lots had LOTS of those wreaths, okay, I’m rubbing it in for those who couldn’t find them, LOL

I hope you’re feeling better real soon, Claudia. Snuggle up with your fur babies and watch an old movie!!

I agree with you on the lampshade, honey; it looks stunning.

Sinus??? That’s the only thing this chick gets in the way of “sickness”—sinus attacks. Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Oh No! I’m so sorry you have this awful cold too. It’s just miserable and I should be in bed but I hate staying in bed so am trying to hang on. Your post is just gorgeous! How silly of me, didn’t even think of Googleing the red button. Guess the cold is affecting my thinking!! ♥

    HI Claudia,
Yup, that’s the perfect lampshade alright! That’s a fantastic lamp altogether, I love it!
My 13 yr old would think it was heavenly if Sir Paul would stop by her doll house. I’ll have to rig something up for her as a surprise. We always decorate it for Christmas, but she wouldn’t be expecting visitors, too!!
Your blog is so pretty, I always love stopping by here!
Thanks for visiting, have a great week.

Oh, so sorry to hear you’re down with a cold. Yuk! I like your positive attitude :)

I’ve seen that lampshade locally at my Target, but don’t have a lamp base for it…it looks delicious on yours! I’m learning to turn little lights on in the cottage instead of those blasted overheads….it really does make such a nice atmosphere with smaller pools of light.

I so enjoy your blog and visit it every day. Your home is so welcoming and warm. And your two dogs are the cutest!

Hope you’re feeling better soon. “EmergenC” works wonders. Mix the rasberry flavor in cranberry juice and you’ll feel better in no time.

you guys are so fun! look at sir paul rocking the tiny house down! (i spy flowers from me! fun!)

everything looks so pretty at your house. i drove to what i thought was big lots the other day but silly me — it was stinky old job lot (do they have those in NY?). kind of a dumpy place.

anyway, i hope you are feeling better. drink lots of nice, hot drinks to keep cozy. got fuzzy socks? get those on, too. :)

Hey Caludia girl, Sure hope the crud leaves you soon. Punkin and I have had it for more than three weeks but finally like the true hardheads we are went to the doc and got shots, cought syrup, antiobiotics and are better by 90 % overnight! We’ve only spent about 100 bucks at Walmart, oh and did I say we are hardheaded? I lovvvvvvvvvvvvve the wreaths and I am going to get out of these pj’s and head to our Big Lots a mile away. Who knows……..this is Louisiana for goodness sake and these folks are probably saying “now who would want one of these scratchy ugly white things” . Peace, Mollye

Hope that nasty cold/sinus leaves you soon . . . I struggle with sinus infections every spring and fall . . . they’re awful!

    Take care!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
