Yes, sure as shootin’, when the skies begin to darken earlier, and lamplight warms the cottage, and when I can no longer do anything in the garden – I start thinking about the dollhouse. That has been helped along this year by some lovely gifts from readers.
Ready for some miniature updates? (All photos taken early this morning.)
The pink rug that Barbara sent turns out to be absolutely perfect for the office/studio. I mean, isn’t that rug meant for this space?
That pink canister on the top shelf, the cake cutter, and the two plates at the top of the stack are also from Barbara. I’ll get a better shot of the canister someday soon.
Coffee canister from Barbara, tin of tea from Lee.
Don’t you love these? They’re from Barbara. One is in the studio/office and one is on the counter in the kitchen next to the mixer.
There it is. I’ll get a picture of the one in the kitchen when the light is better.
Liquor bottles from Barbara.
I bought this little painting of a cottage when I was in Chautauqua this summer.
The tray with books, writing paper and a cup of tea is from Lee.
There will be more.
Gosh, I love my dollhouse.
I’m driving to get Don this afternoon! Yay! And, he got to see Hamlet last night. That makes me so happy. I am enormously proud of Hamlet. Most of the time, Don and I do not get to see each other’s work because of distance or dog responsibilities. I can’t tell you how long it has been since Don was ableΒ to see a play I’ve worked on. This time we’ve had in Connecticut, working 40 miles apart, has been lovely. I got to see his work in Our Town. He got to see mine in Hamlet. He went backstage after the show to talk to the cast, many of whom he got to meet when he visited me in Hartford. My worlds came together and I actually cried this morning when Don told me how much he loved it. I love knowing he chatted with the cast and that they know me and know him now, as well. And last week, many of the Hamlet cast went to see Our Town and saw Don’s excellent work onstage. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect.
Enormously happy about that. It meant so much to me.
Happy Friday.
Dottie in Missouri says
I think it is so wonderful that you and Don had this opportunity to share what you both so love to do. This mutual admiration of the other person’s life work is such a great part of your relationship. At least it seems to me to be that way! Your marriage is one to be admired, dear Claudia, in a world where there are too few of them. We have been so blessed here also and it makes the passing of the years sweeter somehow! Enough Mush for one day!
Claudia says
Oh you can keep mushing, Dottie. I love it. And I love that you are also blessed!
Nana Diana says
That dollhouse is so very adorable! I just love all the little bits and pieces that you add to it. A “home inside a home”. love it.
How wonderful that you and Don’s paths crossed so many times with your work schedules. I wish that would happen more often for both of you.
Have a wonderful weekend together. xo Diana
Claudia says
Not as often as we would like in the past several years. This is the first time in a long time that we’ve been able to see each other’s work.
Barbara W. says
Aren’t miniatures fun? If I didn’t live so far away, I’d invite you over for a Sunday afternoon of tea and rearranging my dollhouse.
So wonderful that you and Don were able to see each other’s work – you are such a talented pair. Have a lovely weekend with your reunited family!
Claudia says
Wouldn’t that be fun? I’d love to play dollhouse!
Sue Silva says
Your doll house is so pretty, Claudia! I’m so tempted to start one but I’m afraid it must be so very expensive. Is it? Where did you find yours and where do you get your wonderful miniatures, other than from Barbara and Lee, lol!
Sue
Claudia says
There’s a wealth of information, including the history of the dollhouse up in the navigation bar under Dollhouse, Sue.

Thank you kindly, Claudia.

Love it when worlds collide ~ in the very best way. I bet Scout will be full of smiles when Don arrives home today. Finally, her little pack is in place once again.
Just heard on the news this AM that we are expecting 3-5 inches of the “s” word on Monday into Tuesday. Then low temps of 12* overnight for a few days. Waaayy too early for this. yuk.
I’m sure you will have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy every minute.
Claudia says
Oh no! The dreaded S word!
Donnamae says
Your dollhouse resembles your own cottage more and more. It’s a little bit of this…and a little bit of that, all put together with love and memories. I am so happy that your professional worlds have blended so well this year…I have a feeling that doesn’t happen very often. Have a wonderful trip this afternoon! ;)
Claudia says
It doesn’t happen very often and when it does, it is truly wonderful.
Vera says
Oh your dollhouse is just too cute. Love those tiny liquor bottles!! Have a fabulous reunion weekend with Don (and, of course, Dame Scout). How great that this time (finally) you could see each other’s work.
Claudia says
It was the best.
Tana says
What a lovely post! Doll house, Don seeing your play, you seeing his, and picking Don up this afternoon. Just about perfect!
Claudia says
Thanks, Tana.

Claudia says
It’s fun to start thinking of the dollhouse again.
Janet in Rochester says
I love it that the people who make miniatures even thought to include tiny liquor bottles! That is way too cute. Now I want to see a miniscule six-pack of beer. What fun you must be having with all your new little acquisitions. It’s fun to “arrange” a house, isn’t it? No matter what the size. Hey, have a happy reunion with Don tonight. Will Scout be going along with you to pick up her Dad? Have a great weekend.
Claudia says
I love those liquor bottles! (Even though I don’t drink in real life.) They are so realistic looking.
Scout stayed home. We wouldn’t have been able to fit Scoutie and all Don’s stuff in the car, plus I knew we would be stopping at Trader Joe’s.
Patricia says
The dollhouse looks great, Claudia. When I work on my grandchildrens’ I’ll need to have a more modern or English traditional to fit in with their tastes. But sometimes I think; hummm… maybe I should decorate it for myself–sorry girls!! LOL!!
Glad Don will be home!
Enjoy your weekend, Muah!
Claudia says
Maybe you can sneak in a few items that are in your style??
Pat says
Your doll house looks lovely! I’ve not done a thing to mine since late winter early spring here. Now I have two and am currently looking at a way to pack them up to move. Wondering how that will go. It’s wonderful – the love and appreciation for each and your work , that you both have! It is a rare thing indeed; and something to be cherished. Safe travels collecting your man!
Claudia says
We’re home, safe and sound, Pat.
Nancy Blue Moon says

Me too!
Sally says
Hi Claudia,
Adore your dollhouse, everything is so charming! And I envy and admire your stick-to-it-ive-ness! I’m not good at the long haul at all. I can go the distance with people – and more – but not with projects. (That reminds me, did you ever post about what you received in the Club Little House swap? I must have missed it somehow boo hoo! Point me in the direction please …)
So sweet, love that you and Don got to see each others work this year, that’s so great. Fingers crossed it happens with much greater frequency for you.
Happy weekend!
Claudia says
To be honest, most of things I got in the swap weren’t really to scale and, though I certainly appreciated everyone’s efforts, there were only a couple of items I could use. I hope this doesn’t sound ungrateful, because I don’t mean it that way, but I was disappointed in the end results.
Deb says
SO happy that the three of you will be together again! And how AWESOME that you were able to see and experience each other’s work this go-around. Through life’s twists and turns, ups and down, it is such a gift to be able to step back, smile and nod – Life is Good. And that is clearly how your post sounds today. LOVE IT! And I’m still trying to think how I can come live in your dollhouse. ;)
Claudia says
I had a day yesterday where I was extraordinarily grateful. Still feeling it today. That is a wonderful feeling.
Nancy in PA says
What a fun post, Claudia! I am all smiles. And I’m with Deb; what fun to imagine living in that sweet house, deciding between a cup of tea or “an adult beverage,” while sitting in the flowery chair and reading Jane Eyre or Little Women.
Claudia says
Don always says he’d like to move in to the dollhouse.
Linda @ A La Carte says
How wonderful that both you and Don got to see each other’s work this time. Nice to be able to share with the one you love. Speaking of love, the doll house is so sweet and full of love. I always enjoy seeing the new additions. I hope you are home with Don soon and enjoying time together with Scout!
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
We are very happily enjoying this Saturday morning together, Linda!
Beth Anne says
Wow, Amazing, I love your doll house. I bought my doll house this summer but haven’t touched it since. I really need to get started soon before the children destroy it, they like touching all the furniture and fixtures. I noticed a few spindles were missing from the staircase and will need to be replaced. They are making more work for me even before I get started. You just motivate me to get started!
Claudia says
Thank goodness it’s just me that sometimes makes a mess with the dollhouse. But it’s all worth it, Beth Anne.
sharron says
What a thrilling life y’all lead! Wonderful that your two worlds come together so nicely.
Love the additions to the doll house too.
What fun and generous gifts!
