It’s a foggy and unseasonably warm Friday morning.
Victory for me – after spending two days chopping up ice, it has disappeared. Thank you warmer temperatures and thank you to our ice chopper, which we bought several years ago. I don’t recall having to use it at all last winter, but this winter with its abrupt freezes and thaws has required its services. Often.
Today is Don’s first preview. And today is the day the Original Broadway Cast Album is released. I have an actual CD on the way, but I’m going to download it today so I can hear it now. I’m too impatient to wait.
My now several-years-old geranium, which I overwinter. Almost all of the leaves are new.
Too little sleep over a period of a week and the horrific news from Florida made for a very depressed and edgy me yesterday. Thankfully, I had dinner with Rick, Doug and Doug’s daughter, Alecia, last night and laughed my head off. At one point, I was clutching my stomach with tears rolling down my face, quite a sight for my fellow diners. Laughter is Β the best medicine.
My mood was much improved when I got home.
I’m thinking of heading into NYC on Sunday for a few days. I’d leave on Saturday, but it’s supposed to snow on Saturday night and I want to be here in case I need to shovel. Even if it snows, it’s going to be in the forties the next day, so it will melt fairly quickly.
Such a strange winter with bitter, bitter cold in December, lots of snow, and unseasonably warm temperatures more often than not.
Happy Friday.

I’m so glad you had dinner with friends and laughed until you cried. I agree, laughter really is the best medicine. I had a visit from my friend Carter yesterday and it’s always good to see him. I bet Don is excited to finally get to previews! My cast recording is on it’s way also and I can’t wait. Talk about getting a lift, that music will do it I’m sure. Enjoy your day.

It helps, that’s for sure!
shanna says
Yes! Laughter is definitely needed right now. And now I’m looking forward to seeing Margaritaville in…not too many weeks!
shanna says
Oh, and you know that I love your doily lampshade!
Claudia says
Thanks, Shanna.
Claudia says
Yay!

I desperately need that right now – laughter like that. I think I’ll watch a comedy tonight. I have been so sad and angry these past couple of days, which is giving me a headache and making my lower back pain worse. Not good. I also have to take a break from FB which is nothing but posts about the latest shooting, which only makes me more depressed and angry. You are a big movie buff – do you have any recommendations for a good comedy that I could watch on Netflix tonight? Otherwise, I might have to jump on a plane to NY and come and visit you and your friends. ;-)
Claudia says
It depends on what sort of sense of humor you have. Let’s see, off the top of my head, I love Tootsie (it never fails to make me laugh) and Sixteen Candles and any of the Christopher Guest movies, like Best in Show, etc.
Melanie says
True, true. Different things make people laugh. I love Tootsie – haven’t seen that in ages. Unfortunately, Best in Show isn’t on Netflix. I was going to try another – Waiting for Guffman or Mrs Henderson Presents – and neither of those was on Netflix either! Oh well, I’ll find something. Thanks for your help!
Claudia says
Best in Show has been on Netflix, but I guess it’s not at the present. I love Waiting for Guffman!

Strange winter. Wow, that is a spot-on description of this Winter so far. It really struck a chord for me today. Would make a great title for a book too. Lately I’ve been imagining all the books & movies that will eventually be made about this period in time, about the “Trump era” etc. In the last 18 months or so, how often have each of us – at least each of us in the Resistance – thought how truly STRANGE things are right now? We’ve seen & heard so many individual instances of things that are just Not Normal in this country. One can’t help but feel fairly off-kilter at times. But something’s coming. I can honestly FEEL it now. It’s not Hoping something’s coming. It’s actually electric, or maybe magnetic. The undercurrent – that which we can’t see – is moving. And I think MUCH faster than we know. OK steady now everybody. Hey, here’s wishing a very Happy & Healthy Chinese New Year – Year of the Dog – to everyone! Peace.

Just saw that 13 Russians have been indicted. I think things are going to speed up now. Mueller knows exactly what he’s doing.

Don’t you just love that kind of laughter? You hurt so much. You hold your stomach. Your face feels like it might fall off. Your eyes get a brief wash. Then you sober up, still smiling. And then, you look at the person you were laughing with and start all over again. Oh my! That is the best of times.
Claudia says
Yes, I do. It’s healing and cleansing and wonderful.
Wendy T says
It’s usually better to share time with good friends when one feels sad or depressed about current events. They can help in getting the perspective more squared, and provide moments of levity to break the mood. I’m glad you have such friends with whom you can laugh until it hurts. Enjoy the Margaritaville download!
Claudia says
I’m glad they moved here. Rick and I have always laughed a lot together and it’s simply wonderful to be able to do that again.
Judy Clark says
Laughter is always ao cheerful thing even in this terrible world.
Our temp is crazy – we were 82 yesterday and 40 today. I have plants blooming out. They are so confused!!

Enjoyed hearing “A Pirate Looks at Forty” from the soundtrack this morning on XM Margaritaville. Had to pull over to take a picture of it on my dashboard for you…but I don’t know how to paste it in the comments!
Loved it!
Claudia says
Very exciting! Thanks, Debbie!
Marilyn says
I love that doily lampshade. Gearing up for snow tomorrow, could get 3-7 inches. Luckily the temperatures are going to be in the 40s-60s next week.
Marilyn
Claudia says
I think we’re going to get 2 – 4 inches, if that. And it will all begin to melt the next day!
Joanne says
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your lamp! Yes it has been a weird winter. I was walking around yesterday without a coat! I hear the temps are about to fall again…..BOOOO!!!
Have a great weekend
Blessings, Joanne

It got cold late in the day and it’s very windy. Strange, strange weather!
Vicki says
Oh, I hope you get to be with Don on Sunday! Do!
Is your friend’s daughter a child? Children are often good medicine, too.
Claudia says
Oh, no. His daughters are adults. She’s about to move to Tokyo to teach in a school there.

I couldn’t live without laughter.
it truly is the best medicine.
it’s what I miss most about my marriage with Bob.
what a wonderful sense of humor he had!
before he died we loved to just enjoy simple human nature together.
finding the humor in life is so helpful. there’s more than enough tragedy to take us all down. but to laugh is healing.
laughter is the magic glue in any relationship!
Claudia says
It is indeed. I’m sorry you can no longer laugh with Bob but I have a feeling you remember all those times you did laugh together and it brings a smile to your face. xoxo
Nancy Blue Moon says
Have a great trip to the city if the snow doesn’t stop you that is!
Claudia says
Thank you, Nancy.
