The end of the peony.
What can I say? The heat has been unbearable with heat indexes of up to 108 degrees. We are thankful for the A/C but it doesn’t stop the lethargy that has taken over both of us. Our brains feel like mush. I run outside to water everything in the morning and afternoon. I keep adding water to the birdbath, which has been very busy lately. And, of course, I water the pots on the porch.
One more day of this. The weather advisory has changed from “Extreme Heat Warning” to “Heat Advisory.” I don’t know that there’s much difference in the end. Tomorrow, the temperature will drop 20 degrees and relief will come. I know so many of you have been dealing with this. Hang in there, things will soon change.
Don didn’t want to do anything but hang out on his birthday, and frankly, that’s all we could do with the heat. We’ve decided no more presents from here on out. We don’t need anything. Whenever Don asks me what I want to do on my birthday, I respond “Just be with you.” And that’s the truth. He feels the same. So that’s what we did. The ice cream at the end of the day was extra special and we really enjoyed it. I sang Happy Birthday to him, adding a candle to his piece of apple pie. I am, of course, always happy to celebrate this man who unexpectedly came into my life 31 years ago. That guy completely turned my world around! I’m so happy I get to live this adventure with him by my side.
He is the best.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

I think it sounds like a perfect birthday to me. Extending more wishes to Don, too!
I hear you on the heat. They say today will be better. Meanwhile, till I have to go out of the house (and I do today) I wrap up in a sarong with a fan about six inches away! It’s surprisingly doable. Last night friends in Howell invited us to come meet his parents visiting from Turkey. Not only was the visit in their air-conditioned space delightful but we got to be in the air-con car for about an hour each way!
A good book, a project with hands, a puzzle — it’s a good time for all of them!
No puzzles on hand, but the rest, yes.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
sounds like a nice (birth)day for you both. glad for that. glad you have each other, and some ice cream too. excluding that mushy-hot weather, may it all keep repeating and repeating.
given our heat, we finally had hours of strong rain, thunder and lightning overnight and the creek (not far beyond the deck and trail) is roaring. loved it!
what i did not love? bringing things over from my apartment yesterday in very hot weather and, along with the trash, dropping my keys into the big, smelly, filthy dumpster. ugh! the dumpster was nearly empty so, on the plus side, i could see my keys, but it also meant the keys were one small sack from the bottom of the dumpster so i couldn’t reach them. thankfully i had my purse and phone with me so called a friend who lives nearby, came over with some tools. golf club did the trick. the long shower afterwards felt so good and i am grateful to that friend.
grateful for you all, too. hope everyone is staying safe and comfortable and spending at least part of each day with loved ones and doing things you enjoy. xo
kathy
Sorry about your keys! That couldn’t have been fun.
Stay safe, Kathy.
dear Claudia/Don — glad Don had a good bday — belated best wishes to him — ice cream and apple pie sounds like a good way to celebrate. WHAT did we do to tick off Mother Nature so badly?? so ready for cool weather — even after getting lots of rain this spring, our soil is dry and baked hard as rocks — sure hope wx pattern changes soon. stay safe/healthy
I’m so ready for tomorrow. Today, it “feels” like 101. And we had to go gracery shopping, so it’s definitely nap time.
Stay safe, Linda.
Happy Birthday, Don. Stay cool, you two. Tomorrow will be better. Hugs, Elaine
Thanks, Elaine. Fingers crossed.
Stay safe.
I’m glad Don had a nice birthday and you two have been so happy for so long. That’s wonderful.
Stay cool and stay safe!
Thank you, Ellen.
Stay safe.
What a perfect birthday for Don spending it with the love of his life. I hope this year his wishes come true, he has good health and his creative dreams come true.
Take Care,
Kaye
Thank you so much, Kaye.
Stay safe.
Awesome – 31 one years together. And that would make don, like 50 or so! His apple pies always makes me hungry. They must be So good. Take care.
Thanks so much.
Stay safe.
