They’re slowly starting to open. I managed to inhale a bit of the scent, but once they’re all open – it will be heaven.
Saw a little bunny this morning, which made me happy. But then I saw him/her going toward my garden beds on the side of the house, so I had to make an appearance. Note to self, put up some temporary fencing on that side of the house.
But we’re really happy to see bunnies again – there was a time when Don was a bit overenthusiastic clearing some of the woods because he was into making paths (the joys of lockdown,) and he eliminated some of their habitat. Thankfully, once he saw the light, he let it all grow back and the bunnies reappeared.
Today, I’m going to mow a bit. Don helped me with the front lawn, but I know that doing it makes his hand hurt, so I’m going to tackle the lilac side of the lawn and the corral. I spent some time yesterday watching a robin who was dining near Don’s car. I wanted to see if the robin would fly up to that nest. After a long, long time, the robin did fly to the nest so I know they’re going to use it. That means I’ll have to deal with their angry calls when I mow or go in and out of the shed – all of which I have to do quite a bit during for the next couple of weeks. I work at being very efficient with my time in the shed, doing my best not to stress them too much.
It’s been quite cold the last few nights. Spring is having a hard time deciding what to be. A week or so ago, it was 90 degrees. Last night, it hit 32 degrees. Crazy!
I need to move the egg cup cubby, so I can get the porch cushions out of storage. They’re in a cupboard behind the cubby. And I need to buy more porch plants but I am holding off until the nighttime temps settle down.
And, of course, we’re preparing for Don’s surgery on Friday.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

I love lilacs and am happy to see your blooms. Mine have some buds but no blooms yet. We have had the same cold weather as you. But the sun is shining today, which makes everything seem better.
Stay safe, Claudia.
Claudia says
Yes, the sun WAS shining here for quite a while, but now it’s cloudy. I’ll take any sun I can get!
Stay safe, Ellen.
Barrie says
Well, there’s certainly a lot to see at your cottage…bunnies, robins, beautiful lilacs! The scent will be incredible when the lilacs are all open! We aren’t having such differences in temperatures as you’ve been having, it’s been pleasant. The breezes though have been out spreading all the pollen, though. California has been having a super bloom. We have fields of yellow right off the freeway!
Claudia says
I remember the super bloom from when I was living there. It’s gorgeous! I’m glad you get to see it.
Stay safe, Barrie.

waiting is hard. waiting with pain is worse (kudos to don and you for handling it well) … so i am glad don’s hand surgery will happen soon. while i have a good feeling about it, i will also continue to pray for you both, the medical team and a quick, safe procedure and recovery and great outcome.
hooray for rabbits and robins, lilacs and other signs of spring! even mowing the lawn (though i know you enjoy it).
feeling no different here … fever, coughing, zero energy, etc. … but i will get better. while it takes time, rest, medicine, etc., i greatly appreciate everyone’s kind wishes and prayers for me. i love you all.
happy, safe wednesday to everyone.
kathy
Claudia says
It will get better. Not to be the bearer of bad tidings, but it will probably hang around a bit longer than you’d like. Just take it easy and don’t push it, Kathy.
Stay safe.

Lucky you with lilacs already! We’ll be soon following you! And how fun to have robins nesting. Big smiles. I saw my eleventh bunny this morning (who knows — it may be the same one as bunny number nine, but if it’s a different day he is counted again. Or she. I can’t tell!).
I thought of you the other day. After my ultrasound on my hip I stopped by an antique market in Howell. It was a big one and I wasn’t looking for anything in particular (like, I don’t have enough already!). But I did find a Quimper egg cup in perfect condition. I have a VERY small Quimper collection (this made four pieces — and one of those three earlier ones isn’t genuine, I think). I probably paid too much for it ($18) — they wouldn’t deal under $20 — but I just loved it so home it came. And just looking at it makes me happy.
These have been rough days — tears in the hip tendons, my MRSA has returned to the lungs. I definitely needed a treat and that was a good one.
Claudia says
Love seeing bunnies. This is the first one I’ve seen. Haven’t seen the groundhog lately.
Yay for the egg cup, Jeanie! Yes, you definitely deserve that treat. $18 for an egg cup is actually a very good price!
I’m so sorry you’re dealing with hip tendons problems and your MRSA. Are you on antibiotics? Please rest and take care of yourself, my friend.
Stay safe.
jeanie says
Oh, that’s good news on the egg cup price. I’ve never really looked to compare but I know (from you!) that some run up there. But I loved the Quimper and everything about the cup was in good shape so I figured it was worth it. A long-deserved treat!
Thanks for the good words. I started the antibiotics yesterday and they canceled PT for a few days so resting is in order. You take care, too!
Claudia says
Yes, a good price!
Glad you’re on antibiotics. Rest, rest, rest.

Those lilacs are a brilliant color…how fortunate you are to have them. Now… if only we had smell-a-vision!
How fun to watch your Robin like that…glad he found the nest. Our resident Robin, is head-butting the glass doors in our bedroom thinking another male is invading his territory. His persistence at the most inconvenient hour, is disturbing to say the least. Gotta love living with nature…eh?
Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
He was giving me a warning chirp as I went in and out of the shed. We were out there quite a while, but I suspect now that things have calmed down, the robins have calmed down as well.
We’ve never had a robin head butt a window or door. You’ve had this problem before, right? Poor robin!
Stay safe, Donnamae.
Donnamae says
I’d swear it’s the same bird every year…lol. This is the third year in a row…but always a different window or door. Strange behavior! ;)
Claudia says
Very strange!

Kay in SE WI says
Aw, your lilacs are beautiful. We have a huge bush we’ve nurtured over the last 20 yrs we’ve lived here that won’t bloom for at least another month. For years I called them French lilacs and then recently found out they’re Korean lilacs. Oh well. I look forward to that heavenly smell as well.
Here’s hoping Don’s surgery is successful and he recovers quickly. My husband had wrist surgery in January that he’d put off through the pandemic. Finally, the pain got so bad he couldn’t ignore it. Now, we’re fighting his work health insurance company who says, despite their sending a letter to the surgeon approving it, they won’t pay for the surgery. Meanwhile, I had endometrial cancer surgery last September and haven’t had any problem with Medicare footing the astronomical bill. Go figure.
Take care,
K.
Claudia says
The darned health insurance companies! I’m sorry you’re having to battle them. I’ve had to do that in the past.
Kay, I didn’t know about your surgery. I hope you’re doing well now? Sending healing energy and prayers your way.
Stay safe.
Kay in SE WI says
Oh, thank you so much, Claudia, for your good wishes. I’m doing very well although it was quite a long recovery that included, among other things, my hair falling out! My surgeon said I had the “best” kind of cancer since it was limited to the uterine lining (though he took everything to be safe) and it only has a 5% recurrence rate. So, just required hysterectomy but no follow-up chemo. I will see him every 6 mo. for the next 5 yrs to be safe.
Claudia says
That’s good news, Kay. Much love to you.
Linda MacKean says
Your property is so pretty and all the critters would make me smile. Enjoy your week and keeping Don in my prayers for his surgery. Hugs!
Claudia says
Thank you, my friend.
Stay safe.

dear Claudia/Don — lovely lilacs — all of ours froze during the artic air outbreak at Christmastime, along with other well established things like crepe myrtle, bridal wreath, roses. these were plants that had been in the ground 35-40 years — so what do we do?? we know we don’t have 35 more years to grow more — so we have been cutting, trimming dead wood in hopes maybe a rejuvenation will happen — not looking very good so far–sure is heartbreaking for us, enjoy your spring flowers for me. wishing/hoping Don has successful surgery/recovery.
Stay healthy/safe
Claudia says
I sure hope they come back. My hydrangea that froze came back after I did what you’re doing – cut it back. Cut back everything – just do some googling as to how much to cut back. Fingers crossed for you, Linda.
Stay safe.
Elaine in Toronto says
Sure looks like spring has sprung at your house, Claudia, despite the cold temperatures. Beautiful lilac blossoms, robins nesting, bunnies gamboling, grass mowing all in progress. Sending positive vibes for Don’s surgery on Friday. Will it be done on an outpatient basis? Hope everything goes well and he won’t be in a lot of pain. Take care. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Yes, it’s done right in the doctor’s office, Elaine. He’s nervous about it, I can tell. In the meantime, we’re getting some things done where I need his strength (and hands) because once he’s bandaged and healing, that will be impossible for a while.
Stay safe, Elaine.
Kay+Nickel says
Best of luck to Don on Friday. I am sure it will go well but I will still be sending positive energy/ prayers.
Claudia says
Oh, thank you, Kay. We can use them!
