The fragrance wafting from these lilacs is glorious. We don’t have as many blooms as in other years, but that’s okay. They’re simply beautiful.
It’s very warm here – too warm, in truth. It was also quite humid yesterday. But, it’s sunny, the birds are singing, and the grass is growing too quickly! It’s been only 5 days since we mowed and it’s already time to mow again.
Yesterday we ran errands; I returned some books to the library, picked up a package at the post office, stopped at our storage facility to get the window air conditioner for the bedroom, and stopped at the grocery store. Then, to make a very long story short, we found that we had to replace that a/c unit, so off we drove to Lowe’s to get a new one – not in our budget, of course, so that’s worrisome – but we got it, drove back home, and after some frustration, installed it in the window.
Next up, the downstairs window unit, but we’re going to wait a few days on that one. It’s currently on the floor of the craft closet in our office. And it’s heavy.
Don just took off with his Crown Graphic camera to take some pictures. He’s in training again, relearning how to work it, how to focus, and how to hold it. He’ll work a couple of hours just as he did when he first started; ask a few people if they’d mind volunteering, and play with light and focus. The farmer’s market starts in three weeks, so he has to have some practice sessions before then.
There are more daffodils than ever in the big garden bed; likewise in the patch beyond the shed. They’re truly gorgeous this year.
Okay. I’m going to make this short and do a little work outside. There’s not much to do, except mow, so I may mow the lilac side of the lawn where two robins are currently guarding their nest somewhere nearby. I haven’t been able to figure out where it is, but the robins are fierce!
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

I have a robin’s nest in my lilac bush that I can see through my dining room window. I was sure there was a blue egg or two in there but now the birds are gone and the nest is empty so I don’t know what happened to them. It is a nice looking nest!
It has been too hot to weed here in Illinois but starting tomorrow it should be cooler so I will have no excuse and will get out to weed!
Stay cool!
Claudia says
I’m glad it’s going to be cooler where you are. Still hot and muggy here with storms on the way.
Stay safe, Ellen.

I hope the Farmer’s Market will not be too crowded. I know from reading the New York Times the virus is escalating. People just want it to be gone but it is not gone.
I know the extra money is needed but please be careful. Even those vaccinated and boosted can get it.
Claudia says
Yes, we are aware of that and we always talk over these decisions. Don will be very careful.
Stay safe, Linda.

You and your husband are amazing.
Claudia says
Aw, thanks, Brenda.
Stay safe.

Your various patches of new flowers are so pretty.
The very annoying thing of our Southern Calif heatwave at the moment (we reached 101 degrees yesterday) is the inevitable ANT explosion, attacking the bathroom and the living room and I assume the kitchen is next. I swear this old house sits on an ant hill but it’s also more of a weather/seasonal problem and probably our proximity to the hillside. The property was formerly, in the first half of the 20th century, a walnut orchard. The ant traps get overwhelmed, so we have to spray indoors, and I just hate having to do it. We’re supposed to be even hotter today than we were yesterday, so I’m just glad I have the life that I do which allows me the choice to be indoors.
Glad you got the air conditioner unit in; sounds like it was in the nick of time!
Claudia says
We always get ants in the spring, too. I’ve also rescued many flies and bees and all of the critters that fly through the doors when we open them.
I forget about all of that in the winter.
Stay safe, Vicki.

I miss my lilacs when I lived in Baltimore. I had 10 purple and white gigantic bushes and used to bring the flowers in every year and my house would smell great. Now that I live in North Carolina, I don’t have any since they don’t grow well here because of the sandy soil. Enjoy them!
Claudia says
I grew up with lilacs, but then I didn’t have a garden until I lived in San Diego and since lilacs need a hard freeze, they didn’t grow there. One of the first things I did when we moved here was plant that lilac bush.
Stay safe, Carol.

We’re getting them today and tomorrow – even a warning about a potential tornado!
Stay safe, Pat.

When I saw your lilacs, I suddenly took a deep breath, expecting that wonderful perfume. Such beauty.
We’re getting higher temperatures, but not too bad yet. Noticed a deer couple napping in our brown backyard this afternoon. I took a photo, but they blend in too well to be seen.
Claudia says
Oh, how sweet!
Stay safe, Martha.

The daffodils and lilacs look terrific. I love that Don is getting back to the market for the photos. That’s fun. And bummer about the a/c. It’s the last thing anyone needs, but at least you found out before 90 and humid!
Claudia says
Yes, thank goodness! We have yet to install the downstairs unit, but we’ll do that soon.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
