Happy Indigenous Peoples Day!

It’s Monday and I’m now trying to figure out – once again – what day I will go into the city to take notes on the show. I thought I had it nailed down to Sunday, but quite frankly, Sunday is a long way off and I just found out they’ve rescheduled the invited dress rehearsal for tomorrow afternoon. I’d much prefer that. It’s better for the actors to hear from me earlier rather than later. But this is a small theater and the theater staff and front-of-house staff are invited, so I want to make sure there will be room for me.

When I work on a show, it sometimes feels like my day is in limbo as I wait for confirmation of something or other. It’s just the nature of the beast.

I’ve started reading The Marriage Portrait  by Maggie O’Farrell. I’m only about 40 pages in, but it’s beautifully written. I’m not one who gravitates to historical fiction, but Hamnet (by O’Farrell) was one of the most powerful and beautiful books I’ve ever read. The only reason I read it – besides rave reviews – was that it involved Shakespeare and his family. That was the draw. Here I am reading my second book in that genre. I know – you’re going to urge me to read some of the late Hilary Mantel’s books.

I’m thinking about it.

I also started a new puzzle, which is frustrating and a challenge and that means it’s perfect for me. I like a challenge – it’s why I love crossword puzzles. They have to be hard, though. Something that’s easily finished is not for me.

Another pending decision: do I mow the front lawn today? If I’m going in to the city tomorrow, the answer is no. I don’t want my back aching while traveling to and from the city. If I’m not going in tomorrow, yes. See? Limbo.

A limbo that is relatively pain-free, of course. No big deal.

Thanks, as always, for all your comments yesterday.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

I could not work your puzzles. You amaze me. I loved HAMNET. I read it from the library…then one of the kids I tutor…his mom sent it to me . I passed it to a grandgirl. This book was good too. I read another one about Shakespeare recently on Netgalley. Didn’t love it. As you know, that was my niche in teaching. My students loved doing Shakespeare with me. I always left it to later in the semester, so they would have the anticipation. Most of it was done in the commons…the Shakespeare teacher. When I was chosen, one of thirty in the nation, to study at Georgetown and The Folger’s in 1994, I had been teaching two years. That summer changed my life. Then in Mass. at Shakespeare and Co. was ok in 2001…England 2006 and 2008…I fell in love with it all. Of course, I have loved Shakespeare since I was a girl…Macbeth was the most fun to teach…My eldest grand girl was studying at a university in England in 2020…she Facetimed me from the Globe. It was a Sunday morning here, and I was living in Indiana. I left Sunday School Class to chat with here…everyone grinned.
She sent me a picture of her in front of the Globe where I stood so many times…I ramble…thank you for this wonderful blog, for your great insights, for your suggestions of books…

am sure those things will all get sorted out, but hope that’s sooner rather than later for you. limbo/waiting for answers is no fun.

thanks to you for asking the question and everyone for more book suggestions yesterday. :) i am not reading much, but (as you said the other day about books and puzzles) i too feel better for having choices and something ready to enjoy.

hope don is starting to feel relief in his hand and your back feels better and stays that way, too. hope everyone here and all your families are well and safe.

    happy, easy monday to everyone.

I can see your dilemma, Claudia. You’re in a holding pattern. Try to relax until you can take action. It’s Thanksgiving today in Canada. We have lots to be thankful for. I’m cooking a faux turkey (aka large chicken). We both like chicken better than turkey. Veggies are all prepped. Trying to decide on Don’s apple pie or cherry cheesecake for dessert. I’m thinking Don’s apple pie needs to shine on it’s own and will taste good later on a blustery Fall day. It’s a beautiful day here, nice and warm, bright blue sky and lots of coloured trees. I’ve known it to snow on Thanksgiving or be in the 90s. Crazy Canadian weather. Take gentle care. Hugs, Elaine

Happy Thanksgiving, Elaine. Yours is quite a bit earlier than ours, so we’re usually in the midst of cold weather by the time ours rolls around.

      Enjoy!

I was happy to hear about Don’s hand…hope the shot helps. I was going to comment yesterday, and somehow I was distracted….that’s easy these days. Enjoyed reading the book suggestions this morning…can add a few to my ever growing TBR list.

I can see why you are in limbo….your decisions seem to be hinged on one another….it’s a puzzle in real life. Enjoy your day…or night I should say! ;)

I have just started one of Hilary Mantel’s books (Wolf Hall). I’ve not read any of her books before, and I’m enjoying it so far. I will let you know how I go with it.

Glad the limbo pole was moved so you will be going sooner rather than later! Is it any easier to go into / navigate the city on a weekday rather than a weekend day?

Hope you are enjoying your new puzzle. If it is challenging for you, I can’t even comprehend how difficult it must be. Jigsaw puzzles and Crossword puzzles ~ those would not bring me any joy!! They both frustrate me.

Safe travels tomorrow, have fun, and take care!!

No, the day I go in really makes no difference. It’s all the same.

      Thanks, Chris.

Catching up and reading backwards, never good! You remind me I will have to order a winter puzzle. I had a New Yorker one that I took to the lake that never got done and left it there by mistake. Now I’m wondering what else I left up there….

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
