I’m writing this post on Tuesday afternoon, since we’re picking my best friend and her husband up from the train station on Wednesday morning – right around the time I’m usually writing a post!
A few things:
The limelight hydrangea is blooming. Actually, it’s even further along after all the rain, but I haven’t been out to take a picture yet.
Two finches clearly admiring my car.
And this surprise, which arrived in Monday’s mail. It is a gift from my dear friend, Linda. A marker for our Memorial Garden. I was completely surprised and both Don and I had tears in our eyes.
It’s from the Etsy shop, Secret Garden Herbs, and was made by Cecilia, who blogs here. It’s perfect. I’m going to order two more; one for Winston and one for Riley. I love it.
Thank you, Linda! And thank you, Cecilia! We are thrilled with this memorial for our little girl.
If you want to know more about my best friend, read this post: On My Best Friend Laural.
Happy Wednesday.

I am so happy to think that you are spending the day with your best friend right now!! The Limelight hydrangea’s are gorgeous. I miss the one’s I had at my last home so much. I wanted to send you something for your memorial garden and when Cecelia added these stones to her shop I knew this was perfect. So happy you love it. Hugs to you and Don.

This marker and those for Winston and Riley will “make” the garden. They are just the perfect touch. Have a marvelous time with Laural!

Love the marker – outstanding! And, your best friend…I clicked the link and read your post. I, too, have a best friend and we met when we were 12. So, 51 years this fall. Aren’t we lucky Claudia? What a gift to have such a long-time friendship. I get together with my friend (and her 2 sisters) once a year for Sisters’ Weekend (which has become more like 5 days now – ha-ha) and we cook and shop and drink wine and laugh and cry and it is wonderful. My friend and I had planned to go away last year for our “golden anniversary” but illness got in the way. We will try to escape somewhere fun this year…meanwhile Sisters’ Weekend is planned for October (we rotate locations and this year it is in NC – I already have my plane reservation!). Enjoy your day Claudia. I’m sure it will be wonderful.

The memorial markers are perfect, Claudia. Simple and graceful, with the one word that says it all. Hope you and Don are having fun with Laural and her husband. Long-time friendships are precious. I have three such friends, two I met in 7th grade and one in 10th grade. I met my late husband in 3rd grade….that was the most precious friendship of all.

How nice of you to do a post when you knew you’d be otherwise occupied today. The marker is perfect. I sort of have one, too, on my dog from childhood. (My parents’ first dog, before they had human babies.) She’d accidentally stepped in fresh cement/concrete just after my folks had moved into their brand-new house in the ’50s (the one I’m now living in); the contractor was still putting in sidewalks/walkways around houses in the neighborhood. Nobody yet had fences or lawns. So, forever, her little pawprints were there in the walk path on the side of the house. As a child, I’d play there at the kitchen door and put my fingers in those indentations, remembering my beloved canine companion who’d follow me and protect me wherever I’d toddle. She was a smaller shepherd mix; just dear. A couple of years ago when we needed to replace and re-do those sidewalks, I had the workers cut out the piece with the pawprints…and that piece now sits near one birdbath in the yard my doggie used to play in, so it’s very meaningful to me as your marker will be for you and Don.

Beautiful hydrangea. Beautiful marker for Scout – how immensely thoughtful of Linda. And beautiful post about your friend. Written a couple of months before I started “reading you” so that was great too. I don’t have to wish you a wonderful visit with your friend – I KNOW you’ll have one. Enjoy!! 👭
