Today will be the last day of the heat wave. It’s been very, very hot. We ended up putting in the kitchen A/C unit. Very grateful for it saving my sanity the last few days. The bedroom unit has not been installed yet, because temperatures will be much cooler for a while after today.
We’ve been hunkering down inside the house, and I’ve been grabbing time in the morning hours to work on the dollhouse. It’s not air conditioned, so the morning is the only time I can work there. I’m waiting for more wallpaper – “Waiting for Wallpaper” should be the title of my autobiography – so I have been building little pieces from kits. I’ve had a couple of these kits for many years and I was holding on to them for this house.

This is a little table from Arjen Spinhoven, who lives in the Netherlands. It was quite well designed and easy to put together and stain. I love the detail. It will most likely sit next to the sofa in the living room.

And I made these two base cabinets from kits that I ordered from miniatures (dot) com when they went out of business. The yellow sink unit has been living in the Lake House. I brought it upstairs to the Beacon Hill to see how it might look in the kitchen. I like the idea of a kitchen that isn’t matchy-matchy – a mixture of cabinet styles that have been put together over time. I don’t know if it will work, but I’m going to try it.
Don’t you just love seeing the real-sized paint brushes outside the window?

And then I realized that the other fireplace had been assembled incorrectly. It actually leaned forward and would never be flush with the wall, so I took it apart and figured out how to realign everything.
Wish I had a before picture! This is the after picture.
I’m waiting until tomorrow to mow the corral and the back forty. The grass is very long but it’s been too hot to tackle that job.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

These are wonderful projects to do when it’s too hot to be outside! (And can you take them down to your kitchen to work on them where it is cooler, since they are small?) I love seeing the paintbrushes and I think I would be happy to have that wonderful little table in my home!
I would love a life-sized version of that table, too!
Thanks so much, Jeanie.
Stay safe.
It’s cooled off here today also and it feels so nice. I will be sure to get out for a walk this afternoon. Good luck with the mowing!
Tomorrow morning!
Thanks, Ellen.
Stay safe.
all looking good! keep going!
glad you and don have things to enjoy indoors when the weather is too much (one way or the other) for getting outside.
my “have to” knitting is almost fully met so i can slow down on that, which is good. i have a lot of other non-knitting “have to” stuff to do, and sometime want to finish knitting my fourth-ever sock (been a while).
happy and safe days, everyone!

I’ve stopped work on Don’s throw. It’s real hard for me to work with yarn in the spring/summer.
Stay safe, Kathy.
i feel the same way about yarn-work in hot weather, so no scarf-knitting for me in summer! and i’m pretty sure don is not wanting to use an afghan right now. :) but i want to continue knitting (and reading, etc., to fight depression and because they’re not only good for me; i like doing those things) and think small knits like socks should be do-able.

Whatever activity helps fight depression is a good one, Kathy.

definitely good to have hobbies. so much the better if they fight depression or relieve stress …!

Good Morning Claudia! We have been sweltering too. Yesterday it got to 98 degrees here! It just about never gets to 98 here even in July and August! Our AC units weren’t in either… like you waiting because it is going to cool down to “normal” again tomorrow. Too too hot. I couldn’t sleep.
I Love the kits you are making for the Beacon Hill! It is so much fun to watch your progress… I get to have all those “oooh” moments when I see your newest pieces. Thank you for that! I think your ideas for the kitchen are “spot on” and I’m so glad you had some kits already saved for this project. I am also trying to “make use of” what I have… finding places for the kits that were acquired for “someday” projects. And yes, the RL brushes out the window are a treat! Those glimpses that show the scale are so much fun. :):)
I’m fast running out of kits, Betsy.
I need to find more!
Stay safe.
I do love the paint brushes outside the window…it was the first thing I noticed! It gives everything a proper perspective. Love the cabinets in the kitchen….they fit in very well with your vision.
I’m happy to hear the heat is going away for you. Starting Monday, it is returning for us. What an up and down Spring it has been…more so than others in the past.
Planting here today for us finally…no frost in the foreseeable future. Looking forward to having color in my pots again. Enjoy your day! ;)
I think it’s going to be coolish here for a while.
So glad you get to plant, Donnamae! It’s been a long time coming.
Stay safe.
I like the idea of not making everything match in the kitchen. I could never go with todays “in style” decorating. I feel like that in every room in our house. Yours seems to have the same vibe, I love it. Glad it is cooling off for you. Sometimes I think I have too many hobbies and I get stressed out when I can’t work on all of them! Take care!
Oh, I know! The pressure to give time to every hobby!
Stay safe, Deb.
