The Living Room on a Rainy Day

August 26, 2010 at 12:00 am by Claudia

It has been raining on and off (more on than off) for the last 4 days. On Sunday we had a real deluge for most of the day. Huge amounts of rain fell. At one point in the afternoon, after a respite, it started up again while I was out running errands. The wind and rain and fog were so intense I could barely see more than a few feet in front of my car. At this point, I’m a little tired of it, but at the same time, I’m so grateful for this rain that we have needed all summer long. Brown grass is getting green, plants look happier and, thank goodness, our well is being replenished.

I took some photos of part of our living room on this moody, rainy early evening.

You can see how the living room and kitchen are basically one big space. Sometimes I like that and sometimes I don’t. However, the living room has windows but tends to be a little dark so the light from the kitchen windows is appreciated. If I didn’t know it was still summer, I would think this photo was taken in autumn. Still haven’t painted the kitchen table, but I will.

The yellow throw is on the loveseat because a certain Miss Scout considers it to be hers. She hops up there during the day and sleeps there at night. When I come downstairs in the morning, the throw is so rumpled that I might be led to believe she was tossing and turning all night long. Nope. She just jumps up, jumps down, and jumps up again throughout the night.

I suppose I should call this my Christie Repasy Corner. The small painting is by Christie and I bought the vintage lampshade from her last year at her shop. Doesn’t it look pretty with the light shining through?

In other news, my Mom has had a very hard time of it today. She fell early in the morning while trying to get back in bed, then she had two more episodes of weakness in the bathroom. After the 3rd episode, my sister called 911 and Mom was taken to the hospital. The latest news is that she is suffering from a severe urinary tract infection and is to be admitted to the hospital this evening (Wednesday.) We are all worried and Mom is very down. If you would keep her in your thoughts, I would be most appreciative.

Your living room looks so cozy and inviting. I giggled when I saw Miss Scout’s throw on the sofa. Mr Hagrid has a brown throw on the sofa, and I’m constantly fixing it.

I’m so sorry that your mom has a UTI. Those infections are so much harder on the elderly. Good that she’s getting treated for it– she’ll be feeling better in no time. I’ll keep her in my thoughts.

    Hugs,
    Jill

Your home is beautiful and warm and it would be wonderful to live there. My big rambling house just doesn’t have a soul like a small house does.

Yeah, ya coulda stayed home for all th’ rain you’re gettin’, honey! LOL But that is a cozy room. The wood arm chair is just like one we had when living in military housing in Oceanside in 1963. I’d love to have that chair now.

    HI CLAUDIA,
PRAYERS ARE ON THEIR WAY FOR YOUR MOM.
SHE’LL BE WELL AGAIN IN NO TIME, JESUS IS AT HER SIDE.
YOUR COTTAGE IS JUST SO WARM AND PEACEFUL LOOKING. IT MUST BE NICE SITTING AND READING ON A RAINY DAY. IT REMINDS ME OF THE COTTAGE OF THE MOVIE “CLAUDIA,” WITH ROBERT MONGROMERY, AND DOROTHY MAQUIRE. A GREAT OLD MOVIE. TAKE CARE, RIZZI

    Hi Claudia,
Oh my, your poor dear Mom, UTI is not fun, but with antibiotics she will be better soon…I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
I adore your front room so vintage and sweet. I could spend hours there all curled up on Miss Scout’s love-seat reading a decorating book.
    Love, Love your coffee table.
    Have a sweet day, Hugs~Elizabeth

I remember those wicked UTIs with my grandmother-in-law. They can so knock them for a loop. I am sending “speedy antiobiotics effects” to your mother as we speak.

Your living room is so warm and inviting (and neat! mine was like that over the weekend . . . for a few minutes) — makes me want to plop down for some tea and company.
    Nicely done.

As you probably know, we’ve had a lot of rain during the past few days down here in “sunny” Florida. It’s been a nice break from the heat but I’m ready for some sunshine!

Hope your mom is feeling better soon. My own elderly MIL has had a lot of health issues herself lately (UTI’s, dizziness, weakness) and much of it has been attributed simply to dehydration.

Love that shade! Will pray now for your Mom. This nosy nurse wonders if she drinks enough fluids…sometimes older people forget to drink liquids in any quanity and they drop their b/p. I can imagine how difficult it is for you being away from her at this time. bighugs♥olive

Claudia, I’m so sorry your mom is having such a rough time of it lately. The poor thing. I will definitely keep her in my thoughts and prayers, along with your dad, sister, and you as well…

Your home is just so cozy and inviting. What a beautiful living room you have. I love the open floor plan, and have one as well. The downside is the lack of wall space to hang things on.

Your Christine Repasy corner is beautiful, and I know I’ve siad it before but I’ll say it again, I love that white brick wall!… Donna

Your living room looks beautiful with the warm welcoming light brightening the rainy day. All it needs is a dog or two – with muddy paws! Sorry to hear about your mom. My father has medical problems and I know how worrying it is every time something new happens. I hope she feels better soon.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
