It’s been a low-key weekend here at the cottage. Scoutie is doing much better. Thank you for your compassionate comments yesterday.
Don went with me on a necessary trip to Michael’s yesterday. I had to get some supplies for the Top Secret Project. I had been planning on going by myself as soon as he returned home with the car, but he offered to go along. I was surprised, because he has no desire to walk through the aisles of Michael’s. Actually, neither do I, but sometimes I have to.
I should have known. Five Guys is across the street from Michael’s.
Ah, now it all makes sense.
Early morning reading. Late afternoon reading. Reading in bed last night.
I’m just about to finish The Cairo Affair by Olen Steinhauer. I reviewed his most recent spy novel, All the Old Knives, earlier this year and quickly became a fan. I reserved The Cairo Affair via our local library system (thank heaven for libraries!) His books remind me very much of the novels of John LeCarré. Excellent.
And that, my friends, is the extent of my ‘exciting’ weekend. I haven’t been sleeping all that well for the past two nights and I feel rather exhausted. So, today, by necessity, will also be low-key.
It sure is a lovely day out there.
Happy Sunday.

Sounds like you could all use a nap on the porch to recharge. :D
Claudia says
I’m thinking you’re right, Brae!
Barbara W. says
Glad to read that Scout is much better. Take care of you today.
Claudia says
I will. Thank you, Barbara.
Dottie in Missouri says
Low key day, a book and a nap on the porch – sounds like a perfect summer weekend! Enjoy. So glad the Dame is better!
Claudia says
Thank you, Dottie!
Linda @ A La Carte says
Low key sounds good to me also. I seemed to have pulled something in the hip area while swaying with Miss Rosemary on Friday trying to get her to sleep. It’s better with a bit of rest and some Tylenol but tomorrow is another day of babysitting. I’ll just have to be careful, so fun to get old. I laughed out loud about Don and Michael’s and the real reason he went…Five Guys! Happy Sunday. I do plan to see my Mom today and that makes me happy!
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
Take care of yourself, Linda. Hip trouble is no fun! Some tylenol and some rest should have you good as new.
Judy Clark says
Sounds like a perfect weekend to me!

Chris K in Wisconsin says
A fun day on the porch with nothing pressing to accomplish. An excellent day ahead!!
We have a concert to attend this afternoon and lunch with a friend’s granddaughter (6 years old). I colored a picture this week and plan to take it to her. She always has pictures for me!! :-)
Kind of a cloudy coolish day here….. if only it would rain!
Enjoy your day!!
Claudia says
Enjoy your day, as well, Chris. And we sure need rain here, too. I don’t see any in the forecast until later this week.
Donnamae says
I hope you enjoy your day of rest. We are off to a graduation party in Milwaukee…so we’ll be relaxing of a different type! Five guys fries are worth the trip to Michaels…hehe! ;)
Claudia says
They’re so good, they’re evil, Donnamae!
Amy at love made my home says
Glad to hear that Scout is doing better. xx
Claudia says
Thank you, Amy!
Tracy Rowland says
I am so glad Scout is feeling a little better. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. We are watching baseball and reading. On another subject, I wonder if you could help me find the “American Miniaturist ” magazine. I have been to three bookstores and some craft stores but no luck. It seemed like the publisher wanted me to buy a whole year and I wasn’t quite feeling that yet. At some point I might like to build dollhouse. I absolutely adore yours by the way. If you have any thoughts I would appreciate receiving them. Tracy
Claudia says
They are available in hobby shops and miniature shops. To get a single copy (digital) online, go to pocketmags.com. You can buy it there. Good luck, Tracy!
Janet in Rochester says
Low-key is what I’m usually hoping for, because “high key” is well – usually – Not Cool. But not sleeping is not cool either – hope you’re able to get some better rest and soon. Glad to hear Miss Scout is doing better too. Enjoy the rest of this weekend… :>)
Claudia says
Trying to rest – I’d like to take a nap, but I don’t think I’ll be able to. Have a good weekend, Janet.
Vicki says
My husband is doing endless indoor work like ripping up old carpeting, so it’s not a restful Sunday and, wow, do I need one because I’m coming off a terrible allergic reaction to an antibiotic I was taking and am pretty miserable because the ‘antidote’ drugs for it have wreaked havoc with my body. But we are a little cooler this weekend, at least for a couple of days, and my guy picked a big bucket of tomatoes off the vine this morning. I’ve enjoyed putting out the gorgeous red fruit in bowls and plates with big admiration for nature’s bounty. And they taste sweet and delicious. There’s just nothing like a good tomato in summer!
I went to Michael’s…once. It’s not near my home. I was a little overwhelmed…so many aisles and little things to look at but, I suppose, a great selection for serious crafters. I bought some Martha Stewart glitters when I was in there; still luv them. Reminds me, though, that I’d like to visit again, just to look around! I think they do picture framing, too, and it’s gotten hard for me to find a framer these days. I used to have one associated with a gallery/art-for-sale shop but, like a lot of smaller Mom & Pop operations, it’s gone to the wayside. Sigh. I miss all small, independent shops! My favorite little dress shops; a good, locally-owned jewelry store where you could pick up a modest but very nice gift. A good shoe store; not some big chain. You know, the kind of shoe stores from the old days where they’d carefully measure your foot and bring out boxes of shoes they thought you might like. The small corner drugstore where you could get anything from a tube of toothpaste to a small bottle of cologne…or a school notebook and some construction paper without having to walk aisles and aisles of a bunch of stuff which holds no appeal or interest. I think I’m sounding grumbly. Things have gotten too ‘generic’ in stores where I live; colorless, joyless places full of smelly plastics and shoddy workmanship. Too many dollar stores although, of course, for some things, they can be handy…and inexpensive when on a budget, as I am. I think that’s why we have to go to eBay, thrift stores, crafts fairs or street festivals, a local art society with a shop, or even Amazon secondhand marketplace and Etsy, since the little unique, specialty, fine and higher-quality things just don’t appear in today’s stores (the box ones and chains). But now I’m just running on and on, Claudia, so I’ll close by wishing you some sleep and a continuing restful Sunday!
Claudia says
I miss all of that, too. I hate that you can go from town to town and the stores look virtually the same. I grew up in a town where there were a lot of mom and pop shops – so many locally owned businesses! We took them for granted, of course, never dreaming that someday all we would see is an endless stream of generic stores. Makes me sad.
Wendy TC says
I need a low-key day soon….but today is a clean up and practice piano day. Hope you are having a lovely late afternoon.
Claudia says
I hope you are, too! I just took a short nap, which should take the edge off and help me get through the day.
Barbara Miller says
I’ve been laying low for the last couple of weeks, aside for driving grandchildren here, there and yonder. It is just too hot in Texas to get out and do anything. I’m counting down the days though. It won’t be long after school starts that the days will be getting, if not cooler, then certainly less stifling.
Claudia says
I don’t want fall to come quite yet, but I totally understand why you crave that relief from the heat, Barbara.
