Midweek

July 2, 2025 at 8:05 am by Claudia

Yesterday was the kind of humid day where you just know that thunderstorms will appear. And they did. Not too much, just enough. It’s going to be warm again today, but without the crazy humidity.

I’m very angry at yesterday’s vote. All I will say here is part of what I said online, without the cuss words:

My mother spent the last years of her life in a nursing home supported by Medicaid. My father could no longer keep her safe from repeated falls and injuries. He visited her every day.

My nephew is disabled and relies on Medicaid.

We’re an average American family. Multiply us by millions and millions of Americans who rely on Medicaid.

Then I said what I felt about those who voted for this. It was colorful.

Anyway, karma is real.

Moving on.

The zinnias seeds I planted in a metal tub on the funky patio are blooming. The ones I sowed in the ground are progressing much more slowly.

Ruby loves to read.

Gosh, I love her face.

Chloe is wearing the sunglasses my pal Gwen sent to me as a thank you for helping her out with a little speech she had to make. Too cute for words! I’m always very careful with putting any glasses on a Blythe because I don’t want to scratch the faceup. It was worth it for this photo.

Chloe is super cool.

Tomorrow is my little sister’s birthday. She is the best.

No real plans for today except to vacuum and clean the house.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Medicaid affects us all — directly or indirectly. I feel for every single person who is going to feel the pinch because of this.

The girls are looking cute as all get out!

They laid off nine people at my public television station (and former employer) yesterday. Good people, some with seniority. All because of the rescission of federal funding and (most likely) the passing of the budget in the house. My heart is aching for them and all feeling the effects of this legislation!

Gorgeous zinnia and darling picture of Chloe and Ruby. I especially like the one with Ruby and her stack of books. The book I’m reading isn’t really keeping my attention so I think I’m going to bring it back and pick up the other one I have waiting at the library. I really appreciate being able to order books ahead. Your weather doesn’t sound appealing, hopefully it’ll cool soon. We’re getting warmer weather, but nice not to have the humidity. Take care.

I honestly don’t know how we would’ve coped if my mom had lost her Medicaid while she was in a nursing home. I can only imagine the fear that
Meredith is going through right now regarding Z, and the fear of countless millions out there right now who are fearing for their future. It’s become a despicable situation.

It’s getting humid here again…and the flowers are needing water, so I best be going. I like Chloe’s glasses…she looks super cool!! Enjoy your day! ;)

i was a social worker for forty years and daily heard the worries and saw the pain and lack experienced by families, elderly people and veterans. i felt those things for them (how could this happen in our country … or anywhere else?!?). i’m grateful for the programs that exist(ed) that helped them and gave me work. i’m grateful for any way i helped them and, as best i could, did what God wanted me to do, but those jobs very quickly left me with little tolerance for the news and zero tolerance for greed, especially by our elected officials (can’t call many of them “representatives”, let alone “leaders”). for my own sake, i continue to avoid probably 90% of the news, but have heard enough about that big bill to be angry, sad and scared for innocent people and our country’s future. and i keep praying and being grateful to be retired.

thanks for the cuteness and beauty in your photos. they help, as do the understanding and solidarity i find here. thanks, claudia and don and everyone else.

sending hugs and the hope that you all are having a good day. stay cool and safe in every way.

I am very sorry for what the future may hold for your sweet nephew. I keep hoping I will awaken from this nightmare. The people who voted for this are truly monsters. I will remain respectful on your platform and will not express what I really want to write…Heaven help us all🩷

I couldn’t pay as much attention as I wanted to the inhumanity going on in Washington. I had a medical emergency with my cat which resulted in spending 7 hours overnight in the emergency vet hospital. Then another 10 hours unable to sleep waiting for the ultrasound results. Fortunately, the diagnosis seems to rule out cancer and point towards a UTI. The urinalysis results will come in next week to help with a firmer diagnosis. Meanwhile, he’s finally home after staying overnight at the vet hospital.

Anyway, love your posing of Ruby! It’s perfect for how I feel today…I just want to escape into a pile of books. Ultra-with-it Chloe! And h.b. to your sister M.

Amen– I just wish the karmic payback would come sooner than later!! So many people are dependent on Medicaid. It is hard to wrap my head around people who are so self-centered and just downright greedy that they want to destroy a lifeline for others…

I was awake almost all night. I played with my dolls and even took a posed picture. It’s my first picture of the three of them. It turned out really good. I wish you could see it. Chloe look super cool
This afternoon we had the plumber over to fixed a clogged pipe. Mike had said that he had it all under control, but the water behind the crawl space underthe stairs ruined the bottom of Mike’s grandma’s sewing machine. I’m rather upset about it. The wooden box is holding together. Who would ever have thought they needed to haul such a heavy box on a boat from the Netherlands to Canada. Maybe she thought we didn’t have sewing machines here…

    Dear Claudia

    Happy Birthday to Meredith!

If you need a mini-vacation I can recommend some beautiful photos. I’m currently doing some time travel to July 2015 & your gorgeous views at Chautauqua. I started reading the blog from the beginning (to read the bits I’d missed) & I’m exactly 10 years behind as of today. Though now I just want to win the lottery & buy a cottage in Chautauqua. Though it would have to be a big enough lottery to also buy a cottage near Interlochen in Northern Michigan also! And also tickets for all the performances!

Oh, isn’t Chautauqua beautiful? I cannot tell you how much I have dreamed of owning a cottage there!

      Thanks so much, Lucinda.

      Stay safe.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
