Had to snap a picture this morning. These blooms last about three days and this is day two.
Gorgeous, aren’t they?
Wild roses, day lilies, yarrow – everything is suddenly in bloom. But it’s going to be stormy today. Then we head into 5 days of 90 degree weather. What?? This has been a crazy spring.
I meant to paint yesterday but I got diverted by an incredibly fiddly little project: making a small miniature from a kit. This particular kit is an artist’s paint box. A couple of hours and several curse words later, we have this:
The tubes of paint were a pain in the tush. I made some more, which are over on the bookcase.
A palette was included. Eventually I’ll add some blobs of paint.
There are also a couple of brushes made out of toothpicks which work for the moment. I’m going to search for more realistic mini paint brushes, though.
The easel is on its way from Denmark. I have some mini canvases to paint and stack in the room. I’ll add some mini art books, too.
I really love this little studio.
Stay safe,
Happy Friday.

Fun miniatures. I’d be all thumbs.
And the roses are really pretty; ‘raindrops on roses’ (reminds me of the Sound of Music movie soundtrack, ‘and whiskers on kittens; bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens’; however those lyrics go [I’m sure I don’t have them quite right!]).
Our SoCalif weather is all about early-morning coastal fog; it rolls in after the dinner hour and stays with us all night. But things change here next week and we get hotter. And so it’s summer.
Claudia says
We had heavy fog this morning. Very humid out there!
Stay safe, Vicki.

photo.
Take Care,

Thank you, Kay. It already looks different than this morning. I caught it at just the right time.

Thank you, April.

Oh…that rose is gorgeous. You made that miniature paint box? Oh my….I’m admiring your patience and persistence.
It has been a very unusual spring here too. Very little rain, and low 90’s this weekend. It’s too much too fast for my taste, but whatcha gonna do? We have been spreading mulch here the past few days, but we’ll have to give that a rest until it cools down.
Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
It’s unbelievably humid outside. Yuck!
Stay safe, Donna!

My favorite flower…the children’s dad, even when money was quite tight , made sure I had a rose for each year we were married on anniversaries…after twelve…continued that number…lasted couple weeks with aspirin…had red roses for our wedding…have good time on house…prayers
Claudia says
Mine is the peony. I just inhaled the scent from one of mine.
Stay safe, Brenda.

Again, I am overwhelmed by the miniatures. The patience is way way beyond my thought process.
Beautiful roses! With a sore throat this week, I have indulged in a few bowls of wonderful orange sherbet & it was just that color! The cough is gone!! Just a stuffed nose & plugged ears remain. Into the 90’s this weekend. I believe I will spend it reading in the AC. Take care.
Claudia says
Glad you’re feeling better, Chris!
It’s so humid right now, you’d think it was August!
Stay safe.
kathy in iowa says
good luck with the weather.
good work on the miniature projects!
i would love to have a room like that just for painting and sewing. even if i had/get one, knitting and cross-stitch are still done curled up on the sofa. and i use an old metal lawn chair (one of those cantilevered rockers) for reading and writing. :)
hot and dry here, too. we’re six inches low on rain and none is forecast for the next week. bleh. on a happier note, since getting fully vaccinated, i’ve been doing the grocery/supply shopping earlier in the week so i can go visit with family members all day saturday and sunday with no tasks taking me away and no worries about wearing “dirty” clothes (whatever i’ve worn to work and the stores that could maybe carry some virus and which just feels gross, or at least uncomfortable, for me to wear around my family). hooray for vaccines, weekends and my family!
beautiful flower, by the way. enjoy those blooms and have a nice, safe day!

Claudia says
Glad you can spend time with the family, Kathy.
I imagine, now that everyone is fully vaccinated, that you no longer have to shop for everyone.
Stay safe!
kathy in iowa says
i am still going to do their shopping. no one’s asked or expecting it, but i feel better doing that because i have a good routine and they can do other, more fun things. plus they’ve done and do so many things for me. :)
happy friday!

Well, you can imagine I am WILD about your mini art studio. The paint box is fabulous — and please tell how in the world you made those (painful!) paint tubes! I can’t wait to see it with the easel! I really should send you a painting, very tiny!
That rose is definitely a stunner. What a fabulous color!
Claudia says
Directions were in the kit, along with some small labels. Cut a toothpick into 1/4 inch lengths, wrap a small square of aluminum foil around the pick, crimp the end with tweezers, glue the label on, and glue a seed bead on top. Everything was included, but it was still a pain!
I’d love a tiny painting, Jeannie!
Stay safe.
Linda Piazza says
Can’t wait to see what you do with the miniature paintings.

Thanks, Linda!

Those roses are an unbelievably beautiful color! Thanks for sharing.
Claudia says
And they already look like they’re fading. They come and go so quickly!
Stay safe, Kay!

A rose is a rose – what beauties are yours.
No patience here either for such intricate work as the paint tubes. They turned out really well.
Got an email yesterday from the local PBS station “You Need A Hobby.”
Hah! Do I ever!
Claudia says
I have too many hobbies!
Stay safe, Martha.

I too am dying to know how you made the paint tubes! They look great. I play (am addicted to) a hidden objects game and paint tubes are usually on the list of things to look for.
That rose probably smells good too. I can’t buy roses at the store anymore—they are like tomatoes—all show and no smell/taste. We used to have a yellow rose bush in our backyard that was next to the neighbors red rose bush. We would often get some variation of color. Not quite the same as that gorgeous one in your yard.
For everyone complaining about heat, we have yet to reach mid-60’s. Yesterday it was 41 degrees overnight. My little plants are shivering but surviving! We are at 19 hours of daylight but after the summer solstice (only 16 days from now! Yikes!), we start losing sunlight, a little at a time.
Claudia your miniatures are amazing. Such attention to detail.
Claudia says
Last week, we had lows in the mid-forties. And the temps never got out of the high fifties. Tomorrow, in the nineties. Go figure,
The supplies came with the kit. Had to cut a toothpick into 1/4” lengths. Cut small squares of aluminum foil, wrap a square around the pick, crimping the long end with tweezers. Cut the label, glue it on the foil, the glue a tiny seed bead on top for the cap.
Stay safe, Becky!

Hi Claudia,
The room is so enchanting and inviting! I feel like the artist has just left the room. It really is magical. And the wallpaper is perfect too. And the tubes of paint left out, so real.
Claudia says
Thank you, Alice! I don’t mind telling you that I covet this room! Ah well, I’m destined to paint in our kitchen.
Stay safe!

I’ve been amazed at the wonderful miniatures you’ve acquired, because I know how very hard it must be to work at that scale. The artist set is incredible–hopefully you’ll forget the pain and just admire it from now on, Claudia. I’m grateful that I only deal with 1:3 for AG dolls–enough of a challenge for me!
Your rose is completely incredible–a gardener’s reward for all the work in the yard. Somehow we have peonies, roses, coral bells, snapdragons and petunias blooming at the same time this year. And they’re all going fast with the warmer-than-usual early June weather.
I can hear little fledgling peep-peeps in our backyard. So sweet! They make me think of your little robins and the little ones in your trailer.
Almost as sweet as our fully-vaccinated family celebrating a birthday–smiling faces and big hugs. We discovered that you can “blow” out the candles by clapping, lol!
Claudia says
We think the robins fledged today. More about that tomorrow.
Stay safe, Roxie!

Wonder what color the roses are called? They look sort of apricot/tangerine to me. Your art studio is charming. A great place for your “tenant” to create.
Claudia says
I don’t know. They were a gift from a friend.
Thanks, Nora.
