Mission Accomplished

May 7, 2015 at 9:14 am by Claudia

Well, I made it through the day yesterday. A bit of coughing during the run, but nothing embarrassing. The show, by the way, is fabulous. I took notes, checked in with the actors and got on the road again a little after 6 pm. By the time I was about half way home, I realized how tired I was; eyes burning, complete and utter exhaustion.

But I did it.

The next visit will be on Thursday for a dress/tech rehearsal. And then, most likely, the following Sunday when I watch a preview performance.

What a talented group of actor/singer/dancers! I’m in awe of their skill and energy and total commitment to the show.

Hello, flowering quince.

5-7 floweringquince2

Could you be any more spectacular with your vivid orange-red blossoms?

5-7 floweringquince 3

I see some flowers on the small dogwood on the edge of the property. I’ll have to get down there to investigate.

As I drove back home yesterday, the rather bleak landscape I had seen merely a week before was now vividly green. Leafy trees, green grass, flowering trees, and the mountains were now covered in trees in every shade of green – it was glorious. What a difference a week makes!

Don’s been mowing the grass. It grows so quickly this time of year. I think we’ll be getting some mulch this afternoon. I’m going to slowly start adding it to the garden beds. Oh, and it’s time to buy some morning glory and zinnia seeds. And the planters need plants. And hanging baskets for the porch.

We’ll get there.

Happy Thursday.

Happy you had a safe trip. New Spring grass is always pretty but grows too fast for us older mowers! I just put my annuals in – pink dahlias, vinca, geraniums, marigolds in pale yellow.. A new color combo this year.

I’m so jealous. We seem to be running late here this year. No leaves on the trees but there are buds so there is hope. We have small leaves on the lilac bush. It has been pretty dry but we’re to get rain tomorrow so I think that will help. Keep those pictures of flowers coming. They are beautiful.

Thanks, Eileen. If it’s any comfort, all of this just happened in the last 4 or 5 days. Much later than usual here. Hang in there. Soon, soon!

Excited by yesterday’s post, I went down to the nursery and bought some perennials and some annuals. The bulb pots have pretty much exhausted themselves, except for the anemones, which continue to pop up flowers, so we’ll plant our new babies in those pots while the bulb foliage turns brown.

Glad you had a goo outing and are excited about the show.

There is a plant I buy in hanging baskets that lasts all summer and into September. So, for me, it’s worth it to buy it already in the baskets because then I don’t have to replant!

Glad you had a good and productive trip. And seeing the soft greens of spring while on a drive is always a wonderful sight.
Going to soak our morning glory seeds tomorrow night so we can plant them on Saturday. Mine always bloom so late. Also having mulch delivered tomorrow morning. Local FFA has their plant sale this weekend and school employees get a sneak preview/ buy later today. The wrens seem to be the very busiest of the birds right now going in and out of every birdhouse we have in the yard. In the low 80’s today w/ the dreaded humidity. It is better than the “s” word though, so we will get through it.
I am so glad to hear you are feeling a bit better. Have a grand day, but don’t over-do! I know that is easier said than done.

So glad you had a productive trip! The greens are glorious this year aren’t they? We’ve been so busy rearranging things, that I haven’t even thought about flowers. Next week, I’ll pick up some for some added color…then I’ll have to mulch everything. Don’t overdue it this afternoon! ;)

I weeded this morning, and now I’m exhausted. Don is driving me to the garden center to get mulch, etc. But I won’t do any mulching until tomorrow.

Have fun getting your planters settled, and choosing your baskets. I could wander about in a nursery or garden store for hours this time of year! We have several really big ones nearby – acres of growing things as far as the eye can see [well, nearly]. One even has an “herb room” with all kinds of plants. Did you know there was grapefruit mint? Chocolate mint? Lemon mint? Amazing. This is the only time of year I regret not having a house, because it limits me so much at the garden store. I’m getting purples this year for my porch containers. And petunia hanging baskets such a deep velvety purple they almost look black. Feel better soon…

I almost always have purples on my porch – there’s a hanging plant I get year after year that has purple flowers. I love that color.

Your pictures are beautiful!!!! That flowering quince is…..Aaaahhhhhh!!!
I do not have a blog but take lots of pictures of my garden too. I know this may sound silly…….but I get sentimental about the fact that this/a flower or a bud only has one quick shot at this lifetime. I feel it has given it’s all and somehow it should be enjoyed and live on for much longer. Of course, my kids think I am crazy!!!!…maybe I am!!!!…lolololo

Not at all silly! I do the same thing, Addie. It needs to be recorded and pictures are the perfect way to do that.

I’m glad you made it there and back safely. It sounds like maybe that nasty bug is ready to hit the road and leave you alone. At least I hope so. I bought some green bean seeds yesterday and *almost* planted them. It’s been so warm I forget it’s still the beginning of May. We could still have a frost or two so I’ll wait a week or so. I’m so ready for fresh garden veggies. I did plant geraniums this morning by the front of our camper. I love the bright red punch of color.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

I planted the Morning Glories this weekend. I splurged on Sunflowers also. I say splurged because there is little to no chance they will grow with my limited sunlight, but I’ll try. Love the glazing ball. I’m going to be on the lookout for one. And, I know you waited very patiently for the good weather to come your way, so glad you are getting to enjoy the benefits.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
