Mockingbird…Hummingbird

December 5, 2011 at 10:14 am by Claudia

Work on the dollhouse has slowed a bit lately. It’s hard to keep those construction crews working when other things need to be done. They tell me they need more wallpaper and trim for the bathroom and studio. They have to tile the bathroom floor. Blah, blah, blah. There’s always something.

The dollhouse finally has a street address. 21 is my favorite, maybe even lucky, number. It’s my birthdate.  The urns arrived a few weeks ago. My plan is to age them a bit with some paint. I’m not crazy about this color. They will be filled with something festive for the holidays.

A long time ago I wrote a post about the dollhouse and asked everyone to suggest a name for this sweet cottage. One name stuck with me: Hummingbird Cottage. I’m sorry to say that I cannot remember who suggested it – if you did, let me know. Drum roll…..I dub thee, “Hummingbird Cottage.”

There. It’s official.

I’d say the street name is Mockingbird Lane, but wasn’t that the street the Munsters or Addams Family lived on?  I’ll have to google that.

Don, poor guy, worked until midnight last night, got up early today to start jury duty, will come home, change clothes and work until late tonight. Let’s hope he doesn’t have to serve on a jury. A day or two of this schedule is hard enough, but a whole week?

Be sure to come back tomorrow, when Brenda and I tackle the challenge of finding storage in a small kitchen.

Googled it. The Munsters lived at 1313 Mockingbird Lane.

What a beautiful name for your little cottage, Claudia. I love it! I find that it’s so much you. Poor Don. I hope he won’t have to serve either. It would be a hard schedule to keep up. It’s raining here today and will be all day. So, all my lamps are on making it cheerful inside even though it’s gloomy outside. Wishing you a nice day in your sweet cottage!

Yes I agree with Lucille, a beautiful name for you little cottage. And on the same street as the Munsters, is that bad? (I don’t remember seeing that particular TV show here). Well, at least they are a long way down the lane from where your cottage is.

That’s a darling name Claudia! I don’t have a name for mine but maybe some day. My work has slowed too but the outside is decorated for the holidays. I will be displaying it soon as soon as the other decorating is finished and I can find the right place. I did go to Hobby Lobby last week and all dollhouse stuff was 50% off. I only got things that didn’t look tacky, you know more realistic things. I would love to go to a Miniature show but the one closest to me has already happened this year. They usually have the most unusual and creative things. It is a soggy, and gloomy day today…..looks like it will be that way until Wednesday. Have a good week!~Hugs, Patti

Hummingbird Cottage sounds very sweet. Love the urns! Jury duty isn’t exactly on my list of fun things to do, either. Did that.

Perfect address. This is some much fun watching this all come together. I too, vote for Hummingbird Cottage Lane. My fingers are crossed that no jury duty will need to be served. Ok, off to see what fun Brenda and Mere are up to. But, first, I’ll click on an ad for you, as ever penny counts…right…

Looking forward to the post on storage in a small kitchen. My kitchens have all seemed small when I’m looking for storage. I sometimes wonder how I managed to live aboard a 44′ sailboat for 5 years and cook the same meals I cook now. Guess I was up for the adventure — seems a daunting idea at the moment.

Do you know, this old house has urns on the front steps almost identical to those at your doll house front door? Such a charming home you are creating there…

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
