Weeding turned into a big job yesterday, as they had taken over big swaths of the garden beds, so that took up a great deal of my time. And then I weed whacked. So I didn’t get around to the de-greasing, which I’ll tackle today.

Look how tall our butterfly bush is!

And these coneflowers are so tall and top-heavy that I have to keep propping them up against the trellis. The gardens are still thriving but I can see subtle signs of autumn’s pending arrival. There are leaves on the porch and in the gardens – there was one in the birdbath yesterday that had turned orange. Yikes. I’m not ready for that yet. Summer is my favorite season now that I’ve been living and gardening here for almost 12 years. August 30th is the twelfth anniversary of our move to the cottage.

Our girl starts her journey today. The shipper is picking her up at Antique Stove Heaven. We’re very excited!

I’m debating whether to drive back tonight or tomorrow morning. I don’t technically have to be at rehearsal tomorrow, but I’ll certainly stop by for a while and watch as Darko stages the second part of the play. We have limited rehearsal time and I need to be there as much as possible. As I have to buy groceries, I’m thinking that driving back tonight is the better option. After all, I’ll be back home on Monday to (hopefully) see our girl in her new home.

We watched Holiday last night on TCM. I’d seen it before but Don hadn’t. Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant – it doesn’t get much better than that!

Our new stove will be named Stella, by the way, in honor of her journey to us commencing on the same day as the eclipse. Stella means star and the sun is a star. And she will be the star of our home. We’re waiting for you, Stella!

All right, my friends, I have to go. I have much to do today. If you’re watching the Eclipse, have fun!

Happy Monday.

Weeds! The ones in our backyard are thriving…a little too much. Clouds are predicted for us today…so we plan on watching the eclipse on tv. It’s refreshing to have at least most of the day be about something other than chaos! Safe travels! ;)

Don looked at its reflection on our patio. I was driving during the eclipse; I could tell it was getting darker.

So much to do in a few days time but I know you love being home. I have my eclipse glasses as we are suppose to be about 98% where I live. I love the name Stella…perfect for the new star of your home! Safe travels. Hugs!

We were at 70%. Don said the cicadas and crickets starting making their nighttime noises as soon as it got dark.

Also watched “Holiday” last night too. Have you seen “Bringing up Baby” with both Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn? So funny. This will be my second time seeing an eclipse like this. The last time was August 1970. My brother thought it was bedtime. With your stove called Stella, seems that it is only appropriate to add the name Marlon Brando. Our air conditioner died this weekend. The repairmen suppose to come sometime today. For me, I wish for Fall temperatures. We been hitting the upper 80s with humidity. YUCK.

      I need to make a correction–it was March 1970.

      Many times!

Not a big Marlon Brando fan, so I will refrain from adding his name! (Except in On the Waterfront, which I thought was his best performance.)

Hope your A/C gets fixed soon!

I’ll never be able to think of that name the same way again.
    PS – PERFECT choice.

Great name choice… I remember 1970 eclipse. I was working in a dental office we could catch glimpse looking through exposed x-ray film, who knew it wasn’t really safe. It was either a Saturday or Wednesday ( not full days) because I remember leaving work and it looked purple outside . We will only be 65% here today again but I shall be sitting outside looking through my cereal box viewer , would not miss it.

Don looked at the reflection (through a pin hole) on our patio. Unfortunately, I was driving at the time.

love that name … stella … and that she is on her way home to you.

tried to watch the eclipse, but it’s been cloudy and rainy since about 2:00 this morning and clouds blocked it. we are about seven inches behind in average rainfall and very much need the rain, but wish it hadn’t happened during a rare solar eclipse (we’re in the 95% area)! hope everyone else who wants to could see it.

if it’s still dark and rainy when i get home, i will try to find a great old b/w movie, too … maybe one with jimmy stewart (a favorite actor, no matter the movie). :)

hope you get time to put your feet up and then travel safe!

Weeding can take over your life. Our backyard is full of weeds. We get rid of them only to have them reappear soon after. It is aback breaking job. Stella is a good name for the stove.

Weeds. ugh. We have a lot of bindweed and creeping Charlie. We had a boat-load of invasive Japanese lanterns that we have (hopefully) eradicated. THAT was a project!! It never ends. The hanging baskets are all so very tired. Annuals are meant to pop and be pretty for about 4 months. I think mine are exhausted.

We were working in the house when the eclipse happened, and kind of forgot about the time. Never noticed a thing. We had clouds, so that must have been why. We were to be at 85%.Safe travels heading back!!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
