When we lived in California, we would go to the beach to watch the sunset, hoping to capture that moment when the sun was almost set – just a blip of orange or yellow light on the edge of the horizon. That’s what I was attempting to capture in this photo.
It looks like we’re going to have warmer than usual temperatures this week. In fact, it’s supposed to reach 67° on Christmas Eve, not unlike the temperatures we used to see on Christmas Eve in San Diego. Topsy-turvy. And obviously, not a trace of snow in the forecast, though we did see some flurries on Saturday.
I’m off to the city later today to see a 7:00 performance of a one man show about C.S. Lewis that I have had a small hand in. It’s still in development, so I’m going to take some notes on what I see tonight. They’ve been trying to get me in there for a couple of weeks, but the darned ankle kept me from going in. My dear friend from my Old Globe days is producing the show and I’ll get to see him tonight, as well.
But I’ll leave early in the afternoon, which should give me time for a visit to The Mysterious Bookshop. Heaven. I’ll stock up on a few books, drink in the shop’s atmosphere, IG a photo or two, then I’ll grab a bite to eat and catch the show.
Long day. NYC is wonderful but a trip into the city is always a long one, with three hours of travel time in addition to the hours in the city. Ah well. There will be no time to catch a glimpse of our little town’s tree at Rockefeller Center. I’ve seen pictures, though, and it’s beautiful.
Still having problems with timely email delivery of the daily blog posts. I don’t know why. It’s ticking me off! Hang in there.
Happy Monday.
Linda @ A La Carte says
Enjoy your time in the city! I know the bookstore is going to be a fun stop. I am waiting for more family to visit my brother today and then some medical decisions will be made. Not a happy time for us but illness and death are a party of the cycle of life. Still doesn’t make it any easier. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
hugs,
Linda

I’m so sorry you have to go through this, Linda. I know how hard it is and my thoughts are with you and your family.
Mary Sullivan says
The city will, as always at Christmas, look splendid. I do hope you get a few minutes to look about at some awesome ‘Big Apple’ decorations – and send us a pic or two please Claudia.
Enjoy – Mary x
Claudia says
I’ll try, Mary. Depends on how much I have to hurry!
kathy says

Claudia says
Oh no. I’ll come back tonight. Spending the night in the city is very expensive unless it’s being paid for!
I’m so sorry to hear about your arm, Kathy. Take care of yourself!
Betsy says
I hope you have a wonderful day in the city today Claudia. The hustle and bustle of New York City the week of Christmas is only something I can imagine! I would love to be able to send you some of our snow. We’ve had snow every day for the last week and we’re under a winter storm warning right now, Snow is predicted every day at least through Christmas. I’m officially sick of it already .
Blessings,
Betsy
Claudia says
You may keep the snow, Betsy. Don and I would be perfectly happy if there was no snow this winter! Especially for Scout’s sake. We worry about her getting around outside with snow and ice.

The line ‘it’s Christmas time in the city’ keeps playing in my head (we’re not encouraged to sing aloud at work). I hope you can tell us a bit about the C.S. Lewis play – definitely something my daughter and I would buy tickets to. Not sure he was someone I’d want to meet, but I greatly admire his writing. Have a good day in the city and enjoy the book shop – wouldn’t it be fun to make a book shop in miniature?
Claudia says
The actor plays C. S. Lewis, basically telling the story of his conversion to Christianity. It’s quite interesting.
Yes, it would be fun to make a bookshop in miniature – but what a lot of books to make!

Hope you have a safe trip into the city…and a great time at the book store! We are supposed to have a green Christmas as well…which is wonderful news as far as this Wisconsin girl is concerned! But, with this warmer weather, seems to come lots of gloomy, wet days. Oh, how I would love to see a sunset such as yours! Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
It’s real gloomy here today and we have rain in the forecast for Tues, Weds and Thursday. Yuck!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
The email w/ your post arrived at just about the usual time today!! Hooray!
Hope you have a fun trip today. Also hope a taxi or a ride from the theater to the station might be in the works for you. Hate to have all that good rest and care for your ankle go backwards…
We are having a green Christmas as well. In the 40’s and 50’s all week. I could do without a single flake of snow, but realize so many companies are weather related in the area and are taking quite a hit. I have heard that in Iceland or Greenland (I believe) the roads are warmed from under so that driving is safer. I guess I don’t mind snow on the ground if it would just skip the roads, the parking lots, and sidewalks!! If I am going to make a wish…might as well be really specific!!
Safe travels, and I will be sure to check on IG later today!
Claudia says
The theater is only a couple of long blocks from the bus station and the bookshop is only two blocks from the subway stop. See? I’ve planned it all out! Roads warmed from underneath? Why don’t we have that???
Susie says
Claudia, I love the sunset photo. :) I hope you have an enjoyable day in the city. I looked at the previous post. I like your simple tree. The little berries helped it go with the skirt. Blessings for a great week. xoxo,Susie
Claudia says
Thank you, Susie!

Have a safe trip to, in and from NYC ! Be careful with your ankle! I would love a bookstore nearby specializing in mysteries. Enjoy the festive NYC atmosphere.
Claudia says
I just wish it was a little nearer than it is! But it’s simply wonderful and maybe it’s a good thing I can’t get there everyday!
Nancy Blue Moon says
I hope you are having a nice day in NYC Claudia…I’m glad you will get to sit and watch the play and rest your ankle before you head back to the station…I also hope you get the books you wanted..I was looking at your Instagram pictures from the side bar..I just love seeing the inside of bookshops…I see two books that I recently bought..Have a safe trip home!
Claudia says
You’d love this shop, Nancy!
Janet in Rochester says
Even though you won’t get to see the Rockefeller Plaza tree – bummer – New York will still be positively aglow with Christmas. Please heave a sigh or two for me – and have a wonderful time. Hope your ankle is cooperative too – don’t do TOO much. ⭐️
Claudia says
It complained loudly by the end of the day, Janet. But I’m resting it today.
Vicki says
I was clueless as to the background of this year’s Rockefeller Center tree; I’m not as tuned in to East Coast ‘news’ as I am my own West Coast headlines sometimes. So, thanks for mentioning it because we looked it up and it was a tender story as to the tree’s life and how things will conclude with all the wood used to a good purpose…and even a tree replanted in the place where The Big Tree stood for so, so many years.
Thank you for all the good recent posts. I’m not responding much in the comments but I do try to get you ‘read’ every day. I think you are plowing through your emotional struggles very admirably…and, good for you that you made the trek into the City. I’ll always be impressed about how you get from Point A to Point Z in the journey from country to metropolis; you’ve got a lot of pluck.
Claudia says
And the tree was living on our town’s Main Street before it headed to Rockefeller Center.
I hope you’re feeling better, Vicki.
Regula says
I’m sure you had a wonderful evening. :-) Merry Christmas, Claudia! Regula
