Must get a move on this morning. My piano innards are coming back home this morning!
I have always been a lazy morning person. It takes me a long time to wake up. When I had to work 8-5 for many years, it was a challenge. I could do it, of course, and did. But one of the perks of having more free time is the opportunity to laze around in my pajamas, reading a chunk of a novel, flipping through Instagram, writing a blog post, making a second cup of coffee and sitting on the sofa next to my husband as we have our morning chat.
So, as strange as this may seem to some of you, the fact that the piano tuner is arriving at 9:30 is throwing me off my game! Silly. In the midst of reading and checking my email, I realized that I had to get moving!
We watched the Golden Globes last night. We don’t do that as a rule, but it was fun! We were pulling for Roma and Rachel Brosnahan of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and were happy to see them win. And seeing Carol Burnett and Dick Van Dyke was wonderful. Burnett raised some interesting points about the state of television today – her show would never be done now. No one would spend the money on it. There’s too much competition from shows that are on what seems like a thousand different networks and devices. Don and I often say that there’s too much. On one hand, a lot of people get work and that’s good. (But they’re not paid nearly as much as they used to be. Trust us on that one.) And there’s more variety – more options. On the other hand, “too much” can dilute the power and quality of the work. But it is what it is and there’s no going back, unfortunately.
Food for thought.
Last night’s sunset.
Happy Monday.

good grief, I forgot to watch the Golden Globes- I usually watch the award shows because (I admit it … I am shallow!) I like to see the clothes- ‘who wore what’ sucks me in, but I am evidently off to a bad start this year- there ARE so many shows to watch now though that I am usually in the dark about most of them- I can’t say that I long for the days of limited selection, but it really has become a case of needing a scorecard just to check out all the offerings available on the many many channels- maybe I need to fall down the ‘bullet journal rabbit hole’ and start listing the possibilities in advance of missing something good- of course then I would need to remember to consult the journal-
good thoughts your way from Texas-

We are constantly saying that we have no idea just what is available out there. It’s too much!
kathy in iowa says
happy for you that your piano will be ready today … such a family treasure and i know you will enjoy it, make good use of it!
i tend to not watch award shows because chances are i’ve not seen many (if any) of the movies or tv shows, but glad your faves won. i think you have good taste and trust your recommendations.
maybe today will be flipped, that you can have a slower afternoon instead of morning. whatever, hope you enjoy the day!
it is raining here, but was 48 degrees … at 6:30 this morning … January 07 in iowa. :0 crazy … but i’ll take the easier commute to work and look forward to a nice walk after i get home.

We’re supposed to get snow and sleet tonight, but even then – it will be fairly warm tomorrow, so it will all go away. Strange winter.
Kay says
Good morning, Claudia. I have to cut short my morning lazing today as well because the furnace man is coming. So, after trolling a former work colleague via email about how glad I am not to have to drive for half an hour down the interstate in the dark and the driving wind and the rain this morning, I’m off to the shower a couple hours earlier than usual.
I totally agree with you as to the quantity of programming options now. As good as a lot of it may be, I find it daunting having to look through the sheer volume of it figuring out what to record. So often I never even remember to go back and watch it anyway and deleting it months later. Does this make me a dinosaur? Probably. So I’m not up on the “latest” that everyone is talking about. Oh well. I lost my tenuous hold on being a pop culture maven the moment our last kid permanently moved out.
Claudia says
I lost my hold on pop culture maven a long time ago, Kay!

I also watched the Golden Globes last night, though I don’t generally watch it. But last night there was nothing else to interest me. So happy for a lot of my faves—Rami Malek, Patricia Arquette, Michael Douglas, Glenn Close, Rachael Brosnahan, Sandra Oh, Patricia Clarkson…Sooooo many! Oh, and Jeff Bridges and Carol Burnett, too. Only downside, I think, was that Amy Adams and Patricia Arquette couldn’t both win. Can’t wait to see Bohemian Rhapsody! Queen and Freddy Mercury were loves of mine.
Claudia says
Oh, forgot to mention Jeff Bridges, we both love him! Don got to meet Beau last year when he came to ETM. Jeff is the coolest of the cool guys out there.
I LOVED Queen!

I am not a morning person either and enjoy the slow waking up, coffee, catching up and then let the day start. I didn’t watch the Golden Globes last night. I started too but couldn’t stay with it. Too much ‘chatter’ and commercials. First time I’ve skipped watching in years. I decided to just check it online this morning. A few favorites won and that is always a good thing. I’m going to work on a blog post as I’ve promised myself to get back to blogging. Enjoy your piano!!
Claudia says
The commercials are especially irritating. Since we hardly watch any network television anymore, they are more grating than ever!
Linda @ A La Carte says
It is why when I do watch something on network TV I DVR it so I can FF through the commercials.
Shanna says
That’s what we do, too! Commercials are the worst, especially when they YELL AT YOU!
Claudia says
We don’t have a DVR. So we watch Netflix and Amazon Prime almost exclusively.
Janet in Rochester says
Fully agree with you all – that’s why I mute the commercials as soon as they begin. God bless whoever dreamed up the MUTE concept. Probably some guy who got tired of listening to radio commercials – LOL. By the way, like blind people whose hearing becomes more acute, you quickly develop a sense for knowing when the commercials are over & the program is back. Give it a try – you’ll be loving that intermittent silence!
Claudia says
We mute all the time!

I’m not a morning person anymore. I used to be only because of work…after that kids, and hubby usually started at 6 a.m., so there was that. I enjoy lounging around for 2-3 hours…getting up to putz in between. But…I think it’s seasonal with me. I don’t do that lounging in the spring or summer…or early fall. The sunshine and warmer weather motivate me more to get up and get out.
I bet you are excited to play your tuned piano! Enjoy! ;)
Claudia says
I definitely lounge longer in the winter. Summer and Spring – I’m up and going much sooner!
Judy Shaw says
Love that photo, and so nice to see some sunshine as we’ve had lots of rain and wind here lately. Have fun with your “new” piano!
Claudia says
We had more rain last year than has been ever recorded. And it’s continuing this year!
Wendy T says
Claudia, were having a respite from the heavy downpour we got yesterday. It’s supposed to start up again tomorrow and for the rest of the week. I waited for the rain to stop last night before pulling my garbage bin to the curb for this morning’s pick up. Most neighbors were waiting for the rain to stop, as mine was only the third household on the block to have bins out, and it was already 8:30 pm. I don’t usually watch awards shows. I don’t do Netflix, I only have basic cable (and that’s kicking and screaming since ai need it for good TV reception), and I’m horrible at pop culture. I was flipping through a People magazine the other day at the library and wondering why I bother to do that…I didn’t know 95% of the people about which People wrote. Make some play time with your “new” piano!
Claudia says
Don and I don’t know who most pop culture VIPS are, either! And we’re fine with that!
Janet in Rochester says
I watched the Golden Globes because I like to see the dresses & I often find things I might like to watch, strangely enough. I thought Andy Samberg & Sandra Oh did very well hosting. But I hadn’t seen 99% of the nominated shows, and more than a few of the “celebrities” were total strangers. Not even name recognition for me. Twas fun seeing Carol Burnett honored – and Dick Van Dyke’s appearance with Emily Blunt. Faces I knew! Glad to see Glenn Close win too – she’s so outstanding & I hope this means she’s an Oscar favorite now because she’s been nominated so often without having anything to show for it. I think I will check out some of the things I heard about last night – “The Kaminsky Factor” looks like it’s very good. I’m not a Michael Douglas fan but I LOVE Alan Arkin. Talk about underappreciated actors. Have fun with your newly-tuned piano. You’re so lucky. That’s one of my requirements for my next life – I want to learn to play the piano. Well-enough so that people will ask me to play all kinds of things at parties & I know them all by ear – I’ll be so popular!! Have a great Monday. Peace. 🎹
Claudia says
We’ve watched all of the episodes of The Komimsky Method and we really enjoyed it. First of all, great to see older actors starring in a series. And we are huge fans of Alan Arkin, who can do no wrong!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
I agree with the morning concept. I don’t make appointments any longer before 10AM. All of those years of working and I disliked mornings completely. Now it is my favorite time of the day. I realized I disliked the rushing, not the morning!!
We watched last night, also. I had never heard of most of the TV shows they announced. We do have Netflix and Amazon Prime, but I seldom if ever even think to use them.
I am watching the Innauguration of our new Governor right now. He has involved children in every possible moment of the day. It is glorious. Scottie doesn’t look very happy and that does my heart so much good for all of the unhappiness he has created in the past 8 miserable years.
I am doing a bit of a jig, but saving myself for the MHC massive dance we are all looking forward to ~ soon. One day at a time.
Claudia says
I’m hoping Scottie fades away in to the swamp.
Glad you’re seeing hope on the horizon in your state, Chris.
jeanie says
I had to catch up on Victoria to make it fresh before the new season started so I skipped the Globes, but did catch a few bits online. You’re right about so much content (and not necessarily all good or time to watch it.)
By now your piano is probably all put back together. Did I hear music coming from your part of the world?
Claudia says
A bit of music! Yes!
tammy j says
agreed! too much of everything to choose from really. which the scientists (or sociologists) or whomever studies those things say dilutes everything. people just quit. over powering.
we’re living in a very interesting age. I think we seem to be on the ice edge cusp of huge change.
maybe it’s like watering down the soup to feed more and more. eventually it becomes something you just CALL soup. it’s not really soup! lol.
Claudia says
Dilute is a good way to describe it, Tammy!
Marilyn says
It seems no matter what channel you turn on there is a commercial. The commercials are getting to be ridiculous. It seems there is more commercials than the actual show.
Marilyn
Claudia says
And a commercial break goes on forever! Thanks, Marilyn!
Chris from Normal says
Claudia the more you share with us the more I notice our similarities. I too am not a morning person even though I like to get up early, but not to early, maybe 7am-8am, It takes a good 3 hours before I’m motivated after a cup of tea, taking my meds and vitals, and being either on my laptop or kindle. I’ve been struggling to get my home under control and orderly for the last 3 years due to my health but it’s coming along slowly. I was sure it would be done by the end of the year but with med changes comes new adjustments that create new challenges. I try to do what I can while I can and that’s all that matters.
Claudia says
Don’t push yourself, Chris. Take your time. Your health is most important.
Nancy Blue Moon says
It is so sad to think that a wonderful show like Carol Burnett would not be shown in this day and age..the whole cast brought joy and laughter to so many people every week…it would be such fun to have variety shows again!…you and Don are right…there is way too much out there…it’s like my many books…I will never get through them all!
Claudia says
I miss variety shows.
And I’m with you on the books! I know I’ll never get through them all!
