Monday Morning

April 29, 2019 at 9:32 am by Claudia

99% of the time, having a blog is a wonderful and rewarding occupation. But that 1%? A pain in the tush. I won’t linger on my technical problems yesterday, except to say they took up most of the day. Three different times I was on the phone with my host and, after painstakingly describing what was going on with the technician working hard to figure out the problem, the call failed. I would have to call them back, this time with a new technician because there was no way for them to contact the person I had just been speaking to  and I would have to start all over again. Cue Claudia’s scream.

It’s still not quite solved, but one of the side effects of all the technical stuff going on was that trying to leave a comment took you to an error page and I didn’t realize that was happening until mid-afternoon. Another call to my host and the problem was solved.

The result of all of this was a stressful day because – and I admit this – when something goes wrong with the blog that I don’t understand and can’t correct myself, I get very tense.

Plus it rained all day long.

Anyway, I’m back today. And though rain was predicted for this morning, it’s sunny out, so I’m going to grab the opportunity to do some work outside.

However, I had to bring the pansies, lavender and Boston fern inside on Saturday because of the high winds and they remained inside yesterday and last night because the temperature went down to 31 degrees. We had frost this morning. And it’s nearly May.

A very strange Spring, that’s for sure.

I finished the Donna Leon and ended up enjoying it, but as some of you have mentioned, I had to read a great deal of the book before I got hooked. Since I have another Leon from my local library sitting on my coffee table, I’m going to go for it. We’ll see if the same thing happens.

Happy Monday.

feel the same way about other things (i don’t have a blog, have accepted i am not a very tech-y person and don’t feel the need to do otherwise) and understand wanting to scream. let it out!

anyway, too bad about all that frustrating stuff like the dropped calls, but thanks for pursuing a remedy for our benefit!

glad you had a less-rainy day than was forecast for you. we had a great deal of thunder and lightning last night along with some rain. love that!

hope you enjoy this second book from page one!

and have a nice, easy day.

It’s still quite cool outside, but the sun was out for a long while today. Thanks, Kathy.

I lose patience with tech-y things when they don’t work the way they are supposed to work. Glad you hung in there…I would be screaming.

It has been a strange Spring, hasn’t it? Fortunately, we only got about an inch of snow on Saturday…but this morning it rained quite a bit, and now, it’s a balmy 41 degrees out. I just wish Spring would stay around for more than a day here and there.

Enjoy your yard work…hit or miss seems to be this year’s theme! ;)

Such a strange Spring! Glad you only got an inch of the white stuff, Donnamae! It’s quite cool here and I’d really like it to be a bit warmer now!

Claudia, I’m glad you persevered with Donna Leon. I like Brunetti like I like Gamache and Maigret. I also like Poirot and Morse but they lack a certain humanity the previous three have in spades.

I, too, hate tech-y things. I’m good (very good to excellent at most things if I had to toot my own horn) but I’m usually awful at stuff I’m not interested in. And I have zero interest in tech. I love fountain pens, books, and crafting with my hands. I loved depositing tokens into the box on the bus, but I now use an electronic transit card that automatically refills with money when it gets below the threshold. I prefer to use cash but have become used to PayPal and that chip on my credit card. I like pruning with my hand pruners but now am contemplating an electric hedge trimmer. I’m doing on-line research to plan my autumn trip, but I’m also flipping through library books and taking notes (with said fountain pen). Sigh…I love reading your blog but am glad I dont have one, and that you do!

I’m actually quite techy when it comes to setting up the blog and coding it. I’ve learned a great deal about that over the years. But, stuff about hosts, servers, PHP, all the things that I really don’t understand, makes my eyes glaze over!

The one immutable truth I’ve learned in the time we’ve had computers. When they work, there’s nothing like them. But when they don’t, they are a TOTAL PAIN. A computer problem always seems to be SO MUCH more of a hassle than problems with other things. Usually at least. Not sure why this is the case, but it does seem so. For me, anyway. Maybe because we’ve become fairly dependent on them – dunno. Well, that’s my theory… Hope you’re able to get out in the garden again VERY soon. 🌺

Thanks for all the work with the blog; I’d miss it if you weren’t here.

What a pretty spot of color, those pansies.

Well, we sure had our own freak rain last night I wasn’t expecting or knew about, thinking April showers weren’t a possibility for my part of SoCalif. Massive thunder and lightning at late bedtime where I actually jumped and yelped at the crack of noise and blinding light, scaring the dog (who was already scared!), felt like I was on Cloverfield Lane (that psycho/horror film, not usually my preferred genre, produced by J. J. Abrams). RAIN for us (yay!) in the wee hours, too; then sprinkles off and on all day today; has been a surprise … tropical, not cold days, just overcast. We only lost power & cell phone/satellite briefly. Maybe summer for you and us is the only thing that’s going to be ‘normal’, Claudia!

Tech problems, yuck. It’s taken me years to figure out how to get my smartphone photos onto my laptop. Now I need to learn the process of getting them in a place accessible for sharing. Oh my! Not a technophobe, just lazy.

    BTW, loved your porch photo!

Your spring sounds much like our Michigan spring. Cold nights, windy or rainy — not showers, big rain. And loads of gloom this week. I don’t think we’ll see gray skies till Friday and I’m not every sure about that, since they haven’t made those predictions yet. And who can count on those — they were sure wrong about four inches of snow! I’m bringing anything not in the ground into the garage at night and giving good thought as to what goes back out in the day. It’ll pass but not soon enough.

So sorry about the blog/hosting problems. I’ve had things happen on occasion and it makes me crazy!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
