Monday Morning

September 1, 2025 at 8:39 am by Claudia

The purple loosestrife that grows by the culvert. It’s supposed to be invasive, but it’s never been invasive here. It usually appears in damp places, near water. The culvert is where the rainwater flows, so there it is. I love it. Even Don remarked on the beautiful color.

I should have said “it’s never been invasive here in the 20 years we’ve lived here” as we celebrated 20 years of living in this cottage on Saturday. We moved in at the same time Hurricane Katrina hit and we had no idea of the impact and damage because we had no cable for several days. Such happiness for us and such devastation for Louisiana. Forever linked in my mind.

I go back to NJ on Friday, so I won’t be blogging Friday and Saturday. I’ll head home on Sunday morning. There will be one more Friday/Saturday the following week, and then I’ll be done. I love the coaching; it’s the driving there and back that’s a bit of a drag. But I’ll be reimbursed for the mileage put on my car.

The Mets are imploding at the moment. We just couldn’t watch yesterday afternoon – it’s so frustrating! I suppose they could still pull off a wild card bid, but it’s looking less and less likely.

Modern Art Barbie. She arrived around 9 pm on Saturday. I had given up on her but the FedEx driver was dealing with a lot of deliveries. She’s really beautiful! This is a doll and dress that was issued in the 1960s and she’s been recreated for this Silkstone Barbie. I love her curly bubble cut and the combination of her red hair and green dress.

The two Barbies – both Silkstone reissues. The painting came with Modern Art Barbie. This Barbie is an artist and she signed the painting. I’m keeping them on the desk as they look too small next to the Gene Marshall and Ellowyne Wilde dolls – they’re 16 inches tall and Barbie is just under 12 inches. (I filmed a little video and it’s on my YouTube channel.)

Don is extremely good natured about the various dolls popping up all over the house. I have rules; no dolls on display in the kitchen or the living room or the bedroom. And not in Don’s area of the office/studio. But he’s a good guy – he really likes the newest acquisition.

Okay. I have to do some work on the script. There have been lots of changes and I have to record them all so I’m not thrown during the run through on Friday.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

I’m home for two days (doc) and will go back Wednesday till Sunday. Then a week at home (five doc appointments — yikes!) and back when my cousin comes (and the new fridge arrives — an unexpected expense. Grrr!) After that, it will probably just be long weekends. Rick won’t be home till mid-September, probably and will probably want to stay put for a bit after a month on the bike! I’m sure a bed will feel good after many (not all) nights in his tent!

I have recent experience with yellow loosestrife in Mass. It was invasive in that instance.

    The Barbies are beautiful!

Have a good week, I hope you and Don enjoy the holiday.

i’ve not heard of loosestrife before, but it is beautiful! glad it hasn’t been a problem for you. have you seen phileas lately?

glad your barbie finally arrived. love the colors of her hair and dress together. i have similar rules about my interests being in limited places. and yes, don is a good man. you two make a great couple.

happy to hear you have more work ahead. best wishes for even more work and for safe, easy travels.

happy house anniversary and many more!

met two very sweet dogs and their friendly, separate people on walks recently … hope (a graying lab) and arlo (a little frenchie). saw a younger buck and doe last week, too. thought we saw a wild turkey or turkey vulture from a distance, but on closer inspection found it was really a thick, dark old squatty limb on the ground (haha … no offense to turkeys).

need to get packing at the apartment.

hope you, don and everyone else have a great don. stay safe in every way.

We’re in a drought and have been for a while. No water in the culvert, so no Phileas.

      Stay safe, Kathy.

I love the green dress on your new Barbie! Growing up in the sixties, it was quite rare to see an actual Barbie in the UK but my friend had one. She also had Ken. I had a nameless, generic teenage doll instead.
I always said that if my son ever got married then I want to have made a dress that echoes the style of the late fifties/early sixties with a calf length full petticoat skirt.
He is engaged but they haven’t set a date, I might take inspiration from your wonderful doll!

    Happy Monday

You should absolutely use that dress as inspiration, Dee Dee! You’d look fabulous at your son’s wedding!

      Thank you.

I have a HUGE soft spot for Barbie … and both of these acquisitions are beautiful! I have 6-7 Barbie’s that I have tucked away in their boxes, but not on the level of the Silkstones (Barbie as fancy Eliza Doolittle, etc.). Barbie was my absolute favorite childhood toy! Thank you for sharing them, Claudia❤

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
