Monday Morning Musings

November 8, 2010 at 11:23 am by Claudia

Thank you so much for all of the wonderful comments on Don’s singing. (If you haven’t yet seen the video, scroll down to the previous post.) He’s read them all and is very touched. In answer to your questions, yes, he does sing around the house and he has indeed written songs for me. Love songs. They make my heart go pitter-patter. Allow me to brag a bit: Don writes and sings his own songs and is currently working on 2 different CDs of his music. He is a wonderful entertainer and a songwriter who writes from his heart. He’s also one of the best actors I have ever known. Maybe you’ll get to hear him sing someday!

The movie was filmed 2 years ago in New Orleans. We haven’t seen it yet. It has been shown at some film festivals, but truth be told, I don’t think it got very good reviews. It has been released in France (the director is Olivier Dahan who directed La Vie en Rose.) It may go straight to DVD here. Bob Dylan did the music for the movie. Bob Dylan heard my husband sing his song! So far, there isn’t a recording of the soundtrack….but you can bet Dylan fans are clamoring for one. Oh, and the beard was fake, by the way. They built it around Don’s goatee. The goatee whose absence I didn’t notice when Don shaved it off a few weeks ago.

Okay. On to other things. I want to share a photo of this vintage shoe bag made from a feed sack that I bought on Etsy. (The usual problem with shooting in this corner of my studio applies. It’s narrow and dark.)

It’s hanging between my cabinet and the mini-design wall. It will eventually be filled with treasured notes from blogging friends and fun things for creating. Here’s a close-up of the fabric design:

Love, love this cheery fabric. I had some creative time in the studio on the weekend.  I’m working on a couple of gifts and thinking up some new projects. And doing things like hanging my Mockingbird Hill Cottage badge on the cabinet door.

I really have grown to love the cabinet as is.  Since so much of my little space is pink, aqua and white, I’ve decided a little less matchy-matchy is in order.

I know many of you have been published several times, but me? Just once. It’s still new to me. So I went ahead and did what I’ve wanted to do all along. I framed the cover of Romantic Homes with my mention in “Setting the Sites.” The frame is vintage. I kind of like seeing it on display in my little work area. Ignore the ugly duster – I always seem to miss something when I take a photo. Don is an enabler, by the way. Now he’s urging me to hang things on the doors. He truly doesn’t mind me taking over this space. As far as he’s concerned, the more creativity on display at MHC, the better.

My friend, Beth Leintz of Gathering Dust, wrote me after seeing photos of my afghan-in-progress and offered to send me some yarn she found at an estate sale. She thought it would fit perfectly with the color palette I’m using.

It does! She also sent along one of her beautiful tags with a sweet note on the back. Thank you, Beth!

It’s a very cold and windy day here in the Hudson Valley. My potted plants on the porch bit the dust last week when we had two hard frosts in a row. Winter is on the way. Not sure how I feel about that, but then again, winter doesn’t care.

Fabulous idea to frame the magazine pages. Much better to admire and appreciate on a daily basis, than remain hidden!
Thank you for the suggestion of a card reader for my photos. I think it may do the trick!

You answered my question from the last post; Don does write songs for you and sings to you. Lucky girl!! I adore your creative space and the idea of framing your mention in Romantic Homes is a wonderful idea. It’s right there to inspire you on to more and more beautiful things. ♥

Claudia, yes..I we just found out that she was from Pink Saturday and I was following her blog. I didn’t even remember that blog from PS but I thought the name did sound familiar. It had been over a year since I probably participated in PS or been to her blog.

For some reason she was at the bottom of my list because I don’t ever look at that list when I go to Dashboard. I called a friend who does repair work on computers and he found the name there. I had not been able to get to my Dashboard because it would immediately go to that warning page. Since he removed her from my list, we are hoping that will clear the issue.

Nope, the weather doesn’t care what we think. It just does its thing. I can see you’re fully in nesting mode now. As long as you’re busy crafting, maybe you won’t get a wild hair (as if I don’t do this…) and hurt your back. I’m glad Don is so interested in your space. It’s got “you” written all over it!

“Bob Dylan heard my husband sing his song!”

Now, how neat is that??? Very! I hope that the music goes onto a CD because I would love to hear it! And if Don makes a CD of his own work, please let us know. I’d buy a copy for sure, Claudia!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

Hello Claudia, I just looked up your blogspot page from seeing your site in my Romantic Homes magazine. If you can believe it, I have yet to thoroughly read from September through until now. I usually do a quick sprint through and then set the magazine aside for future quiet time. It’s just there are so many things I like to do in my “quiet” time it takes quite a while to get through. I never get to the end of the “pile”. Congratulations on “arriving” in Romantic Homes! It is my ultimate favorite in magazine land. (Oh, and let’s not forget Romantic Country!) Would like to follow along with your day to day musings.

    Kindest thoughts,
    Penny

Claudia….even though I already heard it once, I had to go back and give it another listen today…and I love it even more. His velvety, deep voice is amazing….I am so sorry the movie did not take off! I went and looked at the trailer and it seems to be a great movie! What I want to know, is, can you see Don any closer that what the video shows on your blog? I typed in his name and the name of the movie but I got nowhere. He is so talented! What a neat couple you two make.~..~ I like your cabinet just the way it is too.

Ahhh…. such good news about Don’s upcoming CD’s. Please let us all know when that happens… I’ll be in line to get one for myownself. I know that’s really not a word, but I love it anyway.

I love seeing your little corner of the world and gasped when I saw the magazine cover framed. That has been such a dream of mine. I so hoped it would happen before my Mum passed away. She was rooting for me. I told her I’d blow it up to wall size and hang it in the living room. :-)

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
