Day off. But not. Just like yesterday was a day off, but not. We had some mandatory meetings yesterday afternoon and tonight I have to be at the theater at 7 for some preliminary work onstage. But, glory be, it looks like a sunny day out there so I’ll take a walk or two with my camera.
This is the Hall of Christ. Chautauqua is amazing. You’ll think you’ve figured out all the architectural styles and then, bam! A surprise. This is a gloriously beautiful building, with carvings everywhere. I took a peek inside and saw organ pipes and rows of seating.

This is the Hall of Philosophy. Lectures are given here. It’s on a little hill, so you have to climb a number of steps to get there.

And imagine my surprise when I went down a street and saw this:
Yep. A log cabin, smack dab in the middle of Victorian Chautauqua. It’s really beautiful.
Though I tend to stay away from anything political on this blog for obvious reasons, I have to say that the events of last week went a long way to restoring a sense of hope for this country and its citizens. Joy. That’s what I’ve been feeling. Joy.
And in the midst of unspeakable sorrow in Charleston, a eulogy by the President that is simply one of the best speeches he’s ever given. All that and his voice singing “Amazing Grace.”
Feeling thankful.

Love the walk with you and the unexpected sights! The views are truly amazing! I agree that our country took a big step forward embracing love and equality during so much sadness.(hard to type with a cat butting my hands for pets…LOL) back after a cat break! I hope the good weather continues!

What a glorious church indeed..I can imagine how wonderful it is inside..I also like the Stop Global Warming pillow..I was trying to look closely at it and I believe it is done on fabric with a map on it..how clever..I like that head planter on the porch also..I would like to have a couple of those as when you add a plant in the top for hair they look so whimsical..Imagine that..finding a log cabin in the middle of all of those Victorian cottages..and a very nice one too..Enjoy your semi-day off..Looks like a nice one here..until it rains again tonight..
And also..I too feel like something good has finally happened among all the war and hate and violence..Love Happened..Love Won..a long and courageous battle..No one has the right to tell you who you can love..

It’s sunny now. I think we’re getting rain again in a couple of days.
I get a bit geographically-displaced when it comes to the Northeast but I kept hoping you’d be (and Don and Scout would be!) far away from where those escaped convicts were on the loose from that northern NY prison near the border of Canada! It’s been all over the news here in SoCal, for weeks now…
Well, they were closer to Canada than our neck of the woods, but they were on the same side of the state as Mockingbird Hill Cottage. I’m on the western edge of the state right now.
It is such a beautiful town…I always enjoy seeing the sights there. There is so much creativity and beauty.

Last week made me pretty happy, too. My faith in our country has been restored a bit. And the pursuit of happiness has been (finally) awarded to so many.

Love the independent-mindedness of having a log cabin amidst the quaint cottages! My father’s side is entirely Canadian…he was the only one to immigrate to the US, so I have much affinity and affection for my Canadian family. Last week’s event was especially satisfying as another step in broadening rights.
My mother’s side was entirely Canadian. And my paternal grandfather was born in London, Ontario – so it’s everywhere in my family.
I can totally see myself attending a lecture or talk at the Hall. What a neat place.
