More Lilacs

May 5, 2023 at 9:03 am by Claudia

While we still can:

Taken the day before yesterday. The scent is heavenly, we have more blossoms this year than ever. Now, if I could just see them on a sunny day. Sun? Where are you?

Yes, today – the day where we were finally going to have no rain – will be rainy in the afternoon. I am over it.

Come Sunday, the temperatures will hit the seventies and, boy, are we ready.

I have to run to the grocery store this morning and then I’m going to try to do some mowing and pruning. Fingers crossed.

Shhhh! I have to say this quietly: I am really ready for the removal of Don’s bandage so I no longer have to cook and do everything around here. He did help make the entree last night, which is a step in the right direction. And I was grateful, believe me. I think he was happy doing something, as well. If I’m frustrated, he must be three times as frustrated. Anyway, here’s to Monday!

The other day when I was mowing, the robins were giving me warning chirps the entire time. Even when I was rather far away from them. So have the babies been hatched? I’m not sure. Because I don’t want to upset them too much, I end up racing through any mowing that occurs near the shed. It’s exhausting.

The honey bees are back as well, constantly flying around the opening in the catalpa tree.

For those of you who missed it, Brenda left a comment on yesterday’s post, which I copied and added to my post. You can scroll down to read it. I’m relieved to have heard from her. Writing comments, for some reason, is difficult for her right now. When she’s ready, she’ll share more. Or not. I’m just very happy to have heard from her.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

those lilacs are beautiful! rain is, too, but it sounds like you’ve had plenty for awhile so hope it skips you today.

impressed by your photos (including composition and depth of field), by the way.

baby robins … maybe? so cute! on rides into the countryside, we’ve recently seen some baby cows (i know they’re officially “calves”, but i like better the sound of and the thoughts that come with “baby cows”). they are so cute, too. anyway, good to stay away from nests!

glad if don feels some progress in his thumb and hand, enough to help with cooking. a favorite jimmy buffett song is now in my head … “come monday, it’ll be alright …”. :) keeping you, don and everyone else in my prayers.

glad, relieved that brenda checked in.

    more prayers.

finally have two new boards cut for those free-standing, removable shelves to go into that cupboard i bought. hope i measured it right this time! will get it done and in place when my brother can help me with drilling in the screws. will be good to cross that project off my list.

in the meantime, am sorting through books and movies, music cds. the goal is to have only favorites and a “tbr” pile, and most kept out of sight in that cupboard so this space (about 500 square feet) feels bigger, better.

    happy, safe friday to everyone!

It has been a very rainy spring here too. Even only a bit of sunshine is a blessing, like today. More rain to come tomorrow. We have to stay in there and focus on the positive.

The weather is not my biggest concern to be honest, but the sun makes a difference, that’s for sure.

I wish you lots of sunny days in the near future, much joy smelling the lilac and sucking in spring.

We are in a temporary sunny spell here. But rain is on the way here too. Grrr. Hard to get things completed…I’m feeling frustrated.

Had to get my rear in gear early this morning…saw an oriole and my feeder wasn’t out yet. So, it was a mad scramble…fortunately I had grape jelly on hand. Now…the wait begins.

I’m sure Don is really anxious to get his bandage off his hand. Hoping for good news next week. Your lilacs are lovely….enjoy the smells, and your day! ;)

The Lilacs are gorgeous. Happy that you heard from Brenda and hoping things will be better for her. Life throws us curveballs all the time. I know Don is ready to get that bandage off also. I’m still spoiled that my Mom cooks dinner most days so I understand. Hugs!

I’m really spoiled, but I handled it fairly well, so I’m giving myself a pat on the back.

      Stay safe, Linda.

Such beautiful lilacs! Wish I could smell them ! Sounds like it’ll be a win-win situation, as far as dining, when Don can get back to meal prep….but I’m sure you did an admirable job! We seem to be the opposite from you with the rain. I was expecting much more for the last three days, all we got were a few showers. Overcast again today…. looking forward to a bit of sun! Happy Friday!

Your lilacs are beautiful, Claudia. Our aren’t quite so far along but soon. Nice Don’s bandage is coming off on Monday. Is he still in pain? Hope not. Lovely you heard from Brenda. Take care when you’re mowing. Hugs, Elaine

He still has some pain, especially at the end of the day. But it’s much better overall.

      Stay safe, Elaine.

I can almost smell the lilacs. You will really appreciate Don’s cooking when he is back at it.

I sure will! He cooked last night’s dinner, with a little help from me, and it was so nice.

      Stay safe, Kay.

I have serious lilac envy. Our bushes don’t produce many blooms. We were gearing up here for a non-rainy weekend for the first time in over a month. Now, it’s going to rain tomorrow. Among other things, we have a tree the heavy snows pulled almost down to the grown that needs to be taken out. No idea when that’s going to happen now. Let’s hope we can all see a dry day by Sunday.

This year we have more than ever, but some years, not so much. I’m appreciating the abundance of blooms this year.

      Stay safe, Kay.

We had a lovely Sunday (and today’s cool, gloomy Monday; rain is due.) Those lilacs are dazzlers. Ours are just coming on — still to small for the fragrance but getting there. If the sun would pop out again (due this weekend, I think) we’ll be there!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
