Morning Sun and Tiny Shoes

October 27, 2022 at 8:43 am by Claudia

Sun coming up view this morning.

Well, the septic tank was pumped yesterday, to the tune of a lot more money than last time. But since last time was six years ago and we won’t need to do it for another five years, I guess we can live with that. It’s one of the things that has to be taken care of, but isn’t at all fun to pay for.

We had unseasonably warm and humid weather yesterday and it was uncomfortable. Funny how quickly one’s body adjusts to a new and cooler season. Today, however, it’s cooler and it was quite windy when I woke up. I noticed that a lot of the catalpa leaves are down, as well. Sigh – I hate to see those big heart-shaped beauties go.

I’ve started reading The Furies  by John Connolly, another favorite author of mine who successfully blends a detective style mystery with the supernatural. He’s a wonderful storyteller. Next month, which isn’t at all far off, the new Louise Penny drops, as well as the newest Michael Connelly. As you know, I usually hold off on reading the newest Penny because I want to delay the pleasure. I’m sure I’ll do that again this year. Last year, I had to hold off because I was working on the movie. And then when I started it, I had to read in little bits because I was so busy. I don’t want to do that again.

Cute shoe alert:

From Cora Huang. I have shoes from other makers that I love, but the vast majority of the shoes I have are from Cora. I love what she creates and she lives in Connecticut. Two days after she shipped the shoes, I received them. In a Blythe world where most of what I buy is from another country, it’s really nice to receive something quickly. Of course, she has to make them first, but once they’re shipped, they’re here before you know it.

I’m thinking it’s time for Don to make another apple pie.

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

Our septic tank was pumped yesterday too! Cost us $300 which I think might be $100 more than the last time we had it pumped maybe 6 or 7 years ago. We are in Kansas. I wondered how that price compared to yours.

Ours was more expensive than that. East Coast higher prices?

agree … paying bills is no fun, but good to be able to do so. and to have tasks (like septic tanks pumped out) done and someone else who does such work.

having a good book and time to read it on a pretty day sounds like a good followup to most unpleasantries of life. some apple pie will make it even better. :) enjoy!

what darling shoes! and so well made. if not for being on your hand, i’d have thought they were new shoes for you!

and is that all your girls i see in the background, on the music cabinet? :)

lots to do, but taking a slow start here. am okay with that.

    happy, safe thursday to everyone.

Those shoes are amazing…and compared to your hand…how tiny…wow! It would be interesting to see them being made!

    Yes, apple pie sounds delicious!

I’m entranced by those diminutive shoes and in awe of the ability to work with such stiff materials in so tight a form.

A writer friend for thirty years just ordered two copies of John Irving’s latest book, sending one to me so we can read them together. I love it when we do that. We’re just finishing Andy Borowitz’s Profiles in Ignorance. In addition to being eye-opening when I thought we knew so much, Borowitz writes with a hilarious, entertaining, and sometimes vicious ability. In addition, my local book club’s selection needs to be read. It will be a long time before I dig into my own tbr pile, but I love the continued connection to my friend who gave me a ride to my first writers’ meeting when I had just gotten a letter of interest from a publisher and she was soon to garner her first publishing credit, too. She lives in Chicago now, far away from Texas, which she hates.

I love John Irving, but for some reason, I haven’t read his last few books. I saw his new one in the bookstore. Let me know what you think of it. Love Andy Borowitz!

      Stay safe, Linda.

Not at the moment. I can only set up one thing at a time in the kitchen and right now, I’m doing puzzles.

      Stay safe, Brenda.

Ouch, about the septic. We have a pump up septic system so we have to do it every year. And yes, it went up this year,$600. The owner told me it’s cuz the dumping fees have doubled for him.
The shoes. I keep telling myself I do not need another collection but oh boy it is hard. The girls and their accessories are just so adorable!
Thank you for posting snippets of your life. :)

Maybe that’s why ours is more expensive as well as we’re both in the same general area.

Our septic pump was 200 this year — I think it was less last time but who knows? Can’t remember. What sweet little shoes for sweet little feet!

Ours was $400. Twice as much. I think it’s a regional thing.

When held in your hand like that, it becomes so clear to me, how very tiny those shoes are, and the skill and talent involved to make those little works of art. And works of art they are.

I am thankful we do not have a septic system to worry about. However, we do pay for being on a city sewer and water system, so it’s probably a draw in the end. Necessary bills like that are never fun to pay.

Don’s apple pie and a good book sound delightful. Enjoy! ;)

Septic systems aren’t a big deal normally. They quietly do their thing. And, though this is a lot of money for us, if you spread it out over 6 years, it’s not so bad.

And our well water is the best tasting water I’ve ever had!

No pie yet. I’ll have to get on him but he’s got to see the hand doctor this morning.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

Just finished Just Kids, by Patti Smith, a protracted read because of the weeks in Orlando hospitals. About to start Sunburn, by Laura Lippman. Elly Griffith will have a new one next spring, too—The Last Remains.

Hope Don got that apple pie made. Perfect fall day for it. Those dear, sweet little shoes. Love them, especially the red ones. And they are handmade in the USA – bonus! I just recived a small package in the mail and it has sticker on it that says “Handmade, Happy Mail”. Sweet. It’s a handknit wool hat with the Hudson’s Bay stripes. I worked for Hudson’s Bay for 21 years so I just had to have that hat for Jessie when I saw it. It was made in Canada. Yeah! Take gentle care. Hugs, Elaine

Oh, those teeny shoes!! I am in awe of people who work with and create things like that. Just like you when you work on your dollhouses. Amazing.

Glad you are back to reading at 100% again. I hate when we have those reading “hiccups” in life. Hope you enjoyed some apple pie. I want to make some apple crisp this weekend. Take care.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
