My Dream Bathroom

December 22, 2013 at 9:12 am by Claudia

I like our bathroom for the most part. We need more storage. It gets cold in there because, for some reason, there is no baseboard heating. We have hard water and, therefore, hard water stains. But it’s fine. The walls are painted in a lovely aqua, the trim is white. All fine.

There is another bathroom that I have begun to covet. (I know coveting is a bad thing, but I’m being honest here.) It has become my dream bathroom. This particular bathroom isn’t something I found on Pinterest or in the pages of a magazine. It’s right here in the dollhouse that stands in my living room.

I ordered a bathroom sink a while back and it was on back order. It arrived in Friday’s mail. I did some tweaking and here it is:

bathroomsink1

The whole thing was originally in the stain you see on the top of the cabinet. But I kept seeing red, the red that is in the shutters and in the wallpaper. So yesterday, I painted it.

bathroomsink2

The red changes, depending on the light. No faucet yet, I have to order one.

I’ve played around with the placement of things. The slanted wall on the left is definitely a challenge. I like the idea of the tub by the window. Originally, I had the sink on the opposite wall. But then I thought it might be fun to place it on the angled wall and have the mirror (when I find one) also at an angle. Why not? When I get a toilet, it will go on that same wall and won’t be the focus of the room, thank you very much.

These rooms on the left side of the dollhouse are so narrow and tunnel-like that taking pictures can be frustrating.  I can’t really fit the camera inside the room to get close-ups. Oy. And I have to turn on the floor lamp that is next to the piano to get some light into the room.

The cabinet works nicely on this wall. The glass jar filled with sea shells was a gift from Marsha, generously sent along with some other starter items when I first bought the dollhouse. The wooden container on top of the cabinet was in the box that Maryanne sent. I painted it red yesterday. The flowers were in the living room. They look better here.

Do you see what I mean? This is my dream bathroom. I want to take baths in that old-fashioned tub, surrounded by all this wonderful color.

I see a chandelier over that tub in the future. And sconces on either side of the mirror-that-will-be. Towels will be in the cabinet, along with all sorts of beauty essentials. Maybe a little table near the tub that holds a book or two, ready for reading while nestled amongst the bubbles?

Oh, yes. Count me in.

Oh how I wish my bathroom looked like this !!!!! Loving the red sink and shutters.
(I’m very partial to the color, it makes me happy.)
I’m ready to move in once you have the toilet installed.
    Happy holidays,
    Vanessa

Hi Claudia! Love this so much. I have two dollhouses. One my aunt made for me when I was little and the other a friend gave to me. I’m getting ready to rehab that one soon. I love the red on the sink. Will you please share the paint type/color name?

It’s a craft paint that I got at Michael’s: Americana Multi Surface Satin in Red Barn. Hope this helps!

I love all the little details in your doll house. Do I see little slippers beside the sink? Who would have thought you could find such darling mini items. When I first read your post each day I have to focus on the pictures to decide if it is your house or your doll house. Both are so inviting!

Ours is still there, a bit of it, but I wonder if it will last through the day’s warm temps?

    Claudia,
I just love following along as you furnish and decorate your dollhouse. I like the sink painted red. It is difficult to photograph dollhouse interiors…on one of mine the roof lifts up so it helps with photos of the second floor. Just another challenge when working in miniature. Hope you are enjoying the holidays and aren’t covered in ice as we are in parts of Maine.

The bathroom looks amazing! I to dream of claw foot bath and shutters. My shower is over our bath and is a very small room. Making so much better for me was a fresh coat of paint and a small chandelier that I got on sale at Ikea. A room is never too small for bling. Merry Christmas and glad tidings to you, Don and Scout.

LOVE today’s bokeh photo. Three great holiday elements. The lights, the cup, the pinecone… Claudia, no kidding but there is so much right-brained creativity in your noggin, you must walk around leaning toward the right… Have a great day!

What a darling, inviting little bathroom! Did you use official dollhouse materials for the flooring and wallpapers, or did you improvise? The photographs are wonderful. One can imagine walking right into that room and drawing a hot bath…

I used wallpaper from a place called Itsy Bitsy Mini- they sell papers specifically designed for dollhouses. The flooring in the bathroom was made for a dollhouse, but the floors in every other room were made by me with craft sticks.

I’d like a hot bath right about now!

Your little house is so inviting I’d like to toy with the idea of getting one also. My family groans at yet one more unfinished project though. I do love all the detail. It looks like the flowers on top of the cabinet in the bathroom have smiley faces on them. :-) I checked and my camera doesn’t have a bokeh setting to take those beautiful pictures. Guess I’ll just enjoy yours.

I think you have to have a special fixed lens, like a 50mm, with an AV setting, Sandra.

I’d love a bathroom like that in real life, too! Love the red sink. My mom has a red sink console in her half bath. I will have to remember to take a picture next time I’m at her house! It’s an old piece of furniture that she painted and then my sister’s husband fit the sink down into it and installed it in her bathroom for her.

I love your doll house bathroom Claudia! Reminds me of a bathroom in a home in Vermont that we used to visit as kids. Including the slanted wall (which I love). The one in VT had a big clawfoot tub, a dresser that was used to store towels, a free-standing sink and, yes, a toilet. The room was huge — probably about the size of my bedroom growing up. I’ve always wanted a bathroom like that. Oh, and the windows in the room were huge — came down low with wide sills for placing things on.

I had better get a move on and find a toilet, Vera, so it will look like that home in Vermont!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
