My Fantasy on this Monday Morning

April 23, 2012 at 10:40 am by Claudia

My fantasy this morning? That I have my dollhouse here with me. After a few months of little to no work being done on it, I’m suddenly in the mood again. There are at least 3 more rooms that need to be decorated. I miss her. The dollhouse is a ‘she.’ I think it’s acceptable to refer to her that way. If men can refer to a boat with a feminine pronoun, why can’t I?

Here she is in the den. She has since been moved to the living room. Hi, sweet Riley!

And the porch has been painted.

And she’s been given an official house number/address.

In this hotel suite, there is a table by the kitchen that would be the perfect work space. I could while away my downtime wallpapering, painting trim, making wood floors. It would be heaven.

I have a tendency to focus on a project obsessively for a certain period of time. Then I lose interest for a while until something piques my interest again. It’s piqued. But, alas, I am here in Hartford. The dollhouse is at home. So I have to content myself with these pictures of my work-in-progress.

Do you have some project that you’re thinking about? Are you on the edge of jumping in? Please share!

Happy Monday.

You know I haven’t been following you all that long. I did not know you had a dollhouse. I LOVE it. I have one that my bil built for my kids when they were little and I would love to refurbish it someday. Yours is just GORGEOUS- xo Diana

    Good Morning, Claudia
Let’s see: there is the stash of yarn, a couple of started-and-neglected knitting projects, the watercolours I once purchased and haven’t tried to use -no history of art talent, just an aspirational hobby, I think. And to think I promised myself procrastination would be eradicated from my life! (I’m house hunting; may I move into the doll house?)

I don’t think I’d seen the stove before – it’s so cute! I can see why you are looking forward to working on ‘her’ again. :)
    Have a happy Monday, Claudia!

That doll house is a marvel! I think that is the only way I’d ever get an Aga cooker. I go on needlework tangents and then leave it for months. ~ Maureen

Your dollhouse is so stately. Her rooms look very comfortable. I don’t remember ever owning a dollhouse but hey, you’re never too old for one, right?

Yes, I get obsessed with projects, then lose interest and I’m on to something else. Scrapbooking and card making. I have a cricut machine and so many stamps and tools. Maybe I’ll get in the mood again one day.

Hi Claudia! I love seeing your dollhouse! I can understand why working on it would appeal so much now. It’s wonderful to have something to keep the mind and hands busy. I have several of my own dollhouse projects going right now. I’m nearly done refurbishing Dad’s Dollhouse, the one my dad built for me when I was a child. I’m so close! Then, if I put my mind to it, I could finish Lovers Cottage, my little honeymoon pad, in just a few weeks. The one that’s really on my mind, though, is Cupcake Cottage, my shabby vintage kitchen filled with old-fashioned yummy desserts! :-D Have fun and enjoy your day! :-) Jennifer

I love peeking into your dollhouse. That wicker chair is so sweet, I could eat it with a spoon.

I have a quilt that I set aside about a month ago. It’s so close to being finished.

That is a lovely dollhouse! My husband and I built one for our daughter many years ago. It was so much fun decorating it and making furniture for it. I made a grand piano, of course, to put in the livingroom and her dollhouse had a ‘schoolroom’ because she was homeschooled. :-)

Love the French doors to your porch and your great guard dog there! :-)

Yes, I tend to obsess about projects. I got on a Civil War kick and exhausted all the current books on General Longstreet, CSA.

Now I’m making soap. This week and next only, I’m running a 20% off on all my handmade soaps for Mother’s Day. Hope you’ll check it out. :-)

I know exactly what you mean…I put mine down stairs in my craft room because it was in the living room all during the holidays. Now I have another one to put together. I have to get in the mood again to start doing that. I have some “life events” to get through first and then I can turn my attention back to the “projects”. You are homesick right now which makes the longing for the dollhouse more intense. Hang in there!~Hugs, Patti

Your doll house is just so lovely, Claudia. I admit when I first saw the picture in your blog about the little blue and white chair, I thought it was a real house!? The project I’m longing to start is painting. Nothing artistic… just the walls of the bedroom and upstairs den, and the ceiling and walls of the back porch. I’m itching to do it but have to wait for just the right weather: not too damp, too cold or too humid. (Good luck, Me, here in New England!) On a more creative note, I’m really eager to knit some more socks and to work on the pathways in my garden. Can you tell I’m gettin’ my “Spring Energy” on?

My “project” at the moment is trying to create my own template for Blogger, sweets! That is taking more time than I’ve ever wanted to spend on anything. Bleeeechhh on the new interface.

However, I think it would be great if you could get the dollhouse and take it to while away the hours.

    BTW, Riley does look sweet!

    xoxo,
    Connie

Claudia every time I see a close up of something in your dollhouse I think “oh, I would love that cupboard, chair, etc.” , then I realize it is your dollhouse. It is so gorgeous it makes me want to get one too.

Hope you are having a sunny day,
    Sue

Hi Claudia! Every day I try to do something which is dollhouse related. Some days I just think about it. Insert a big grin! But, it’s there right in my living room in front of the window.I can’t miss it. I must, just simply must finish it this year. It’s all built. It just needs to be decorated and electrified. I have all the wires and chandeliers for it.

Claudia, why don’t you get something at the dollar store tomorrow. There must be one around the area where you work. It could be a couple of bird houses and some bottle of paints and a package of brushes. They sell all that in dollar stores. You could have some creative moments in your room. You could even pick up a few packages of scrapbook stuff to decorate the birdhouses. If they don’t have any birdhouses, perhaps they might have some little chests. They usually have wood stuff ready to be painted in dollars stores. Just a thought!

This has to be the CUTEST dollhouse I’ve ever seen :o) I always wanted one as a child & even attempted to build a couple. I think I’m reinspired…As far as projects I’m thinking about…Well, there’s the garden I want to plant, the scrapbooks that need to be completed, & I would like to learn to knit or crochet (whichever is easiest).

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
