Because I can’t have any dairy two hours before and after I take my antibiotic, I have to drink my first cup of coffee black.
Yuck.
It’s not so long ago that I would only drink my coffee black. Now, I shudder to think of it. Right around the time I had my gall bladder trouble, I stopped drinking coffee. For a couple of months, actually. The acidity of coffee wasn’t doing me any favors at the time. The gall bladder was eventually removed and a month or so later, I happily resumed coffee drinking, but this time, I started adding half and half because drinking it black was suddenly too much. Funny, how tastes change. So now I find myself drinking it black for that first cup of the day and I try to stretch that particular cup of coffee out until two hours have passed and I can treat myself to a cup with half and half.
Not to mention the fact that I have to cram some food down my throat when I first get up so that I’m not taking the pill on an empty stomach.
My morning routine is topsy-turvy.
I ventured outside yesterday, sunhat on my head, to water the plants and take some photos and walk Scout around the yard. The garden needs weeding. Desperately. I’ll have to do it very early in the day or very late in the day. Early is tough for this slow waker-upper. I’ll figure it out.
In the meantime, I’m reading, doing crossword puzzles, watching Masterpiece Mystery and wonderful old movies like Ball of Fire with Barbara Stanwyck and Gary Cooper (one of my absolute favorites.)
I have to coach one of my former students who has been cast in an episode of a television show. The character she is playing has a Hungarian accent. So we’re going to Skype this weekend and work through her script. That will be fun (she’s one of my favorite students, though I know I’m not supposed to have favorites.)
I’m off to read some blogs, read about Harper Lee, and read the mystery I will be reviewing here next week. Speaking of reading, today is the last day to leave a comment on my review of Deadly Assets on Just Let Me Finish This Page. I’m giving away a copy, but you absolutely have to leave a comment today to be considered. I’m drawing the winner this evening. Just click here to be taken to the post.
Happy Friday.

Topsy-Turvy mornings are no fun!! Hopefully you are feeling better and hopefully the course of antibiotics is not a long one. Enjoy the weekend — the weather forecast looks wonderful (at least for Eastern PA)…low humidity, lower temps and no rain. Enjoy your early or late hours outside.
Claudia says
21 days – rather long, but better safe than sorry! It’s perfectly lovely outside today and I hope we have the same forecast that you do!

Don’t forget to add rest to that list. Glad you have some great things on your list but good ole sleep helps. Do your legs ache. It’s hard to be down in the summer. It’s been 5 weeks now for me since my surgery. I feel better but still feel limited. I don’t have a lot of patience…..Hope you do. Hugs Feel better.
Claudia says
Oh, I’m resting. I really don’t have any choice in the matter! My legs don’t ache. My wrists ached when I came down with the fever and the chills. And during the past week, I had a very stiff neck, which is one of the symptoms. That’s all better now!
I know how hard it is to recover from surgery, Debby. I am with you. I’m not very patient about that kind of thing. Hang in there, my friend!

You are so fortunate that you were on top of your health and got to a doctor quickly. Take care and listen to your body!
I didn’t leave a comment yesterday but the main reason I hit your blog first is that you never just pick up other people’s pictures. I can read anything I want to read on my own time. I never look at links on other blogs. I think it is a lazy way to blog. Sometimes pictures are needed to be used if they show a total picture.
Occasionally, I do find new blogs from some people’s suggestions. But now I get so many ideas for different blogs by reading the comments on blogs I like. There are only so many hours in a day! I do like your book blog, too, busy lady.
Claudia says
I agree with you, Gayle. I understand the reason behind it, but I also think it’s rather a cop-out. Either blog with your own photos and/or content, or don’t post that day – that’s my opinion, for what it’s worth.

So sorry you are having to take the Doxycycline! Besides the fatigue, I think that “blue pill of death” as I called it, was the worse part of my Lyme treatment. Nothing like spending a month “green around the gills”. Definitely reminded me of my pregnancies all those years ago :-) And like your area, the part of Wisconsin I am originally from lays claim to a lot of cases of Lyme and there is not a family in that area who has not had at least one person contract it. I got mine when I was up visiting my family one summer. But they caught yours early and the month will be over before you know it! Here’s to a restful month and a speedy recovery, from someone who’s been there (((hugs))).
Claudia says
Boy, you’re not kidding. Everything has to be arranged around that pill. No dairy. Nothing with calcium and magnesium for two hours before and after – that means no Tums, no Pepto Bismol, etc. Stay out of direct sunlight. Take with food.
Yikes.
Thanks for your kind words!

Enjoy your reading and rest time today..Here’s hoping you feel a bit better every day..Hugs..
Claudia says
I feel much better than I did earlier in the week, Nancy!

It’s always curious to me….how one little change, can disrupt a routine so easily. But, I know you’ll find your rhythm…it’s around there somewhere! Jim and I were pulling weeds the other day…quite the chore…but also quite the exercise…we were weeding in and around a rock wall. All the bending, stretching…a lot like yoga if you ask me! I’m sun sensitive too, because of a medication…just gotta cover up…and sunscreen-up. And, sun hats always help too! ;)
Claudia says
Yes, my sun hat is getting used a lot!
Pat says
I know what you mean about Topsy-turvy mornings… i’m still adjusting. Honestly, I’m TERRIBLE about taking medicine– and will often times forget! I am just not a pill person, even with headaches I’ll just lie down before taking a pill. Blech! I’ve only forgotten 2 in the past 2 months (1x per month) Yay! I’m improving.
Still…I feel for you not getting to be outside when the mood strikes. Are you able to sit on the porch if it isn’t directly in the sun? That would be an option for you maybe. I know you love it out there.
I think some already mentioned rest. …so take care then, Pat
Claudia says
I’m going to spend some time out there tomorrow morning, if I can. By this time in the afternoon, the sun is shining directly onto the porch (it faces west.) xo
Linda says
Love the black-eyed susan, one of my favorites. My Blackwings came yesterday; I am in love! Thank you so much for talking about them. I’ve only used the black one so far, but I used it all day. Hope you get in the swing of our new routine soon. Dusk is always a wonderful time to visit your gardens, so many sights and sounds unique to that time of day.
Claudia says
Oh, I’m so, so glad you like them, Linda! There’s always the risk that recommending something so highly might backfire!
Dawn says
Have you tried to take the meds on an empty stomach? I’m one who never follows what it says on the label and an empty stomach works out fine for me. Maybe you should wake yourself up and take the meds 2 hours before normal getting up time so you can have your coffee just how you like it. When I was a coffee drinker I had to have cream too.
Claudia says
When I didn’t have quite enough food in my stomach, earlier this week, and took the pill, I got queasy. So I definitely need food in my stomach.
Linda @ A La Carte says
Not sure I could do black coffee at all! I love my creamer! Exciting fun to skype and help a student! Glad you are getting out a little bit. I leave for Denver this afternoon and will be visiting Kathe (another blogger). This part is my vacation, taking care of my daughter was pure love.
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
Have a great time, Linda!
Susan says
I love Ball Of Fire -what a great movie! I caught it on TCM, too.
Claudia says
I never get tired of it!
Janet in Rochester says
Don’t you love August on TCM? A different star featured every day. I love Barbara Stanwyck! I have “Stella Dallas” on DVD and really enjoyed a great old soaper with her and Fred MacMurray the other night – “There’s Always Tomorrow.” She was such a skilled actress – even bad material looks good in her capable hands. PS – got my Blackwings too, Claudia. And loving them. Giving samples to my niece and nephew to get their expert opinions too. Thanks for the tip. And get well soon… :>)
Claudia says
We just watched Stella Dallas recently, Janet. She breaks my heart in that movie.
So glad you like the Blackwings!
Regula says
Half and half is THE BEST! I really really really miss it here. :-)
Claudia says
I would miss it so much if I couldn’t have it, Regula!
Missy says
Why not take your antibiotic at night with a little snack?
Claudia says
Because I have to take two pills a day – 12 hours apart. One in the morning, one in the evening (with dinner.)
