Natural Beauty

September 13, 2011 at 7:21 am by Claudia

The garden is past its prime. I have a few zinnias coming up; the seeds were planted a little late because of my surgery. Only one has flowered so far.

So I craved and needed some flowers for my living room. Lately, the flowers I’ve seen for sale looked too saturated, as if someone had gone into a photo editing program and set the ‘color saturation’ dial a little too high. I’m sure these flowers were all dyed. And they were expensive. I even considered driving to Trader Joe’s for cheap, pretty flowers. However, since the nearest Trader Joe’s is an hour away, the price of gas would defeat my purpose.

Enter the dreaded Walmart. Five dollars.

You can’t beat the price.

A big sigh, shoulders drop….fresh flowers make me happy.

Another form of natural beauty:

From our downed sugar maple limb. The grain is so beautiful.

Every tree tells a story.

I may have to keep these.

There is a artist community that would love to have a few slices of that lovely tree. They would make a table top with it and put a piece of glass on it. I would just hang the slice on the wall. THAT is so lovely, the markings on the tree, the rings and above all the color.

Those are drop-dead gorgeous. I think you have given me the idea to do the same. That log…my cats would love to get their claws into that. Enjoy your day, Claudia.

Claudia, the flowers are very nice. See? Walmart isn’t all bad.LOL Just a little evil….

Now about that log. You need to find someone that can cut it lengthwise in thin slices. It would make beautiful miniature furniture!

You must, You must, You must, keep those beautiful pieces of wood. How’s about a little sit out in the garden for you to rest upon. They sure do have a life of their own. Nothing like a few fresh flowers in the house. You know what I’m rating this summers garden a C+ over all. Everything went in so late due to the cold spring and then we climbed above 100 and sat there. Maybe, next year, as I’m already thinking ahead and am now heading out to put a few pots to bed. Only a few, but it’s already started here.

Our co-op sells lovely flowers from neighborhood gardens. I agree the bouquets from the big floral companies are so fake looking now. Sorry about your tree. I like the idea of making miniatures from it’s wood.

Your flowers are lovely and a beautiful color. I too adore fresh flowers but haven’t bought any recently. Trader Joe’s is my favorite place for flowers. So sorry you lost the tree. ♥

    Hi Claudia,
Flowers really do brighten the mood of the day. Your arrangement is beautiful! We have a Trader Joe’s that was recently built about 13 miles from our home. I did notice the lovely flowers at very good prices in there. You have inspired me to pick some up this week. Have a wonderful day and enjoy your nice flowers! xoxo Kim

Oh yes, I turn to the grocery store when I am in need of a flower fix too. I think your bouquet looks beautiful. And that tree really does look marvelous. I hope you can come up with a use for it, because that wood definitely is a keeper.

Love the flowers, perfect for your cottage, but dislike venturing into W-Mart! T.J’s is another story, LOVE it there and must say I buy most of my food there these days and often grab a bunch of affordable flowers. Luckily it’s just a few mins. from my cottage – spoiled aren’t I!

The sugar maple is gorgeous wood. Like the idea of one of your commenters re: mini furniture – what a lovely memory of a much-loved tree seeing pieces in your doll house.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
