first snow

What’s that I see on the roof of the shed?

That dreaded four letter word.

Though there isn’t very much on the ground and I’m sure it will melt away during the morning hours.

first snow 2

A view of the back forty. I’m sure the higher elevations around us got more snow. That’s fine. This is quite enough for me, thank you very much.

Good news. The repairman came out and looked at the washer yesterday afternoon and immediately figured out what the problem was. The lid to the washer wasn’t fully closing, therefore the switch that signaled the washer to start wasn’t working. I’m not sure which of these things started the problem, the switch or the lid, but the switch had to be replaced. I had warned Don that, even if we could repair the washer, we might have to wait for parts. But lo and behold, that particular part was on the truck. Within about a half hour, all was fixed. The whole thing cost us a little over $200, which is a good sight better than the $1200 it would cost us to replace the unit.

I don’t have to go to the laundromat today.

To celebrate, we piled into the car and took Scout for a walk on the library grounds. Then we took a little walk through town (it doesn’t take long) and headed home. She was happy. We were happy.

before the frost 4

The limelight hydrangeas with their faded autumn beauty.

Don wants to know what I want for my birthday. I never know. I need clothes desperately but he insists that new clothes should be a matter of course and not a birthday present. Likewise a winter jacket and snow boots. All of which I need. My boots have been too small for me for 3 years. My winter jackets are looking pretty ragged.

I’m a wee bit jealous, to be honest, because Don got to buy his wardrobe for Our Town (which was in modern dress) for $300. It was worth about $1000. Hand picked, hand tailored (he’s over 6′4″ remember) – he got it all, including shoes. I’m thrilled for him, because he needs all of it and some pieces will be very good to wear on auditions.

But voice coaches don’t get costumes, do they?

Maybe I’ll tell him I need new flannel pajamas – which I do. And maybe some of my favorite perfume.

before the frost 5

Or maybe something for the dollhouse.

A new post up at Just Let Me Finish This Page: something from my local library and some interesting links.

Happy Friday.

I just realized we share November birthdays! Happy Birth Day! I find lots of great clothing at consignment stores like my wool winter dress coat. I needed one for church and got a lovely one that did not require alterations! No snow here in MO yet but VERY cold!

Claudia, You would think you’d get a nice cup tea….being voice coach. :) That is wonderful about Don’s new clothes. I bet he’s dapper too. It’s good to get something you truly need for a gift, like boots. No , not snow…I saw where we all my be in for a bit of that nasty stuff. Take care, xoxo,Susie

We have had a couple of mornings of the “s” word on the rooftops, and it does go away by mid-day. However, w/ these awful low temps we have had for the past several days, the 2 inches we are predicted to receive tomorrow may not fade away quite so quickly. I am definitely ready for spring.
Yay! on the washer news. I saw the Nick & Nora PJ’s at Target, too.
    Stay warm!!!!

Happy Early Birthday! Multi tasking and possibly overlooked exact date–which would be?? Can totally relate to needing new clothing…I absolutely detest shopping for myself, but LOVE shopping for everyone else. I appear to be in a perpetual state of mourning with all the black I wear, but it is my ‘uniform’ color. Thank goodness the washer was repair worthy :-) And a big yippee for the new duds for hubby!! We have a son 6’5″ and the large feet to hold that frame up. Finding affordable business wear is a challenge…even modest ties start at $40!!! I personally think bow ties are adorable :-) Glad they are making a comeback. And our area of North Texas saw a brief dusting of snow earlier this week! But, we were smiling about it–well, most of us anyway :-) stay warm and toasty today!!

I think I better change my attitude…because I’m sick of winter already and it’s still Fall! Perfume and flannels sound like a great gift to me…but then so would a new sweater or two! ;)

We’ve had flurries here for a couple of days, but nothing sticking. It is so cold though…only in the 20’s during the day. I desperately need some new clothes too, especially long sleeve shirts. I did find one decent shirt at Goodwill the other day and lo and behold, 2 shirts on sale and 1 on clearance at Kohls yesterday – plus I had a 30% off coupon, so I got the 3 shirts for a great price. I’m all set now. I’ve had the same winter coat for at least 10 years! It’s a Columbia. Believe it or not, it’s still in great shape. You’d never know how old it is. Though I’m tired of it. Not a good enough reason to buy a new coat unless I found a super great deal.

Your photos of the woods look like picture postcards.
It is minus fifteen (in your Fahrenheit degrees) here this morning, but the trees are all white and sparkly and pretty, so that helps.
It must be difficult (and pricey) for you and Don to buy clothes off the rack as you are both quite tall. My daughter has a similar problem in that she is only five feet tall and size zero. I don’t understand about your boots – did your foot size change as an adult?

Yes. Both your feet and your ears grow bigger as you get older. Get ready.

Snow is a hateful thing isn’t it? I mean yes it is beautiful, but the work it takes to get out. We had 10 inches this week, and we are still trying to find a walkway. We have someone come plow our driveway and yard. Our driveway is 400 feet long.
I hear that North Face is a good brand for winter clothing, and so is Land’s End. I like the idea of warmth without the bulk.
I read your comment that our feet and ears grow as we get older. Yes, yes they do. I had not bought a pair of new shoes in a few years, and when I finally did go to get a new pair I went from a 7 to an 8! It explains why all oh my shoes all of a sudden hurt. I thought my feet were swollen.
I like the idea of Scout romping around the library. What do you suppose she would like to read if she could?

Snow!! We are just having rain, rain, rain and more rain. Don must be really pleased at getting that wardrobe! Perfume would be a nice birthday present. I have about 1 drop of perfume left and am hopinh Santa will oblige with a new bottle. My birthday is long past.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
