The spirea bush that is down by the road is blooming. Big, fluffy tufts of white. I have always assumed this is a bridal veil spirea, but I could be wrong. I sure love it – it’s one of the early spring delights around here.
So pretty, so delicate. Today, that bush is being blown every which way as a cold front comes through here. The temperatures have dropped but will start to climb back up tomorrow.
I caught Henry investigating the top of the garden bed. I opened the front door and said “Hey, no garden for you.” He took off like a shot. I actually didn’t need to say a word; just opening the door is enough to send him back to his lair.
It’s so windy today that my parents’ wind chimes are constantly making beautiful sounds. Hi Mom and Dad.
These are the albums that dear Linda sent my way. Don loves all of these artists, so they are perfect for the TSP.
Coincidentally, some albums I ordered arrived yesterday.
Also in this particular group that arrived in yesterday’s mail? The exact same albums that Linda sent to me! Great minds think alike. They are from the Etsy shop, Petals and Brims. Again – all albums Don would love to have, including Earth Wind & Fire, though I must confess that they are a particular favorite of mine. I’m the big Earth Wind & Fire fan around here.
We’re slowly getting there.
We watched one of our favorite movies last night, The Awful Truth. It’s a very funny screwball comedy starring Cary Grant, Irene Dunne, and Ralph Bellamy (who Don worked with many years later on LA Law.) We actually own a copy of the movie, but it’s somehow more fun to watch when it just pops up on TCM. Brilliant.
You know, Don had a recurring role as attorney Russell Spitzer on LA Law and we figured out that the episode with Ralph Bellamy aired in 1988. I remember seeing it when it first aired. It’s a very touching story about Bellamy, a legendary lawyer who, it turns out, is losing his mental faculties. Russell Spitzer (Don) was defending Bellamy’s character. They had a lot of time to talk and Bellamy told great stories about his days in Hollywood.
Anyway, in 1988, I saw Don on that episode. Little did I know I would meet him six years later!
Amazing, how these things happen.
Happy Sunday.
Donnamae says
We were big fans of LA Law back in the day….so I’m sure we saw Don….just didn’t know him yet! Great albums…this whole miniature industry still impresses me with all that is available to you! We got to 30 last night…hopefully that is the end of it…fingers crossed! Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
I sure hope that’s it with the cold temps for you guys! It’s getting down to 37 here tonight, which is why I’m not potting the impatiens until tomorrow. Have a good day, Donnamae.
Judy Clark says
We’re having a cool spell and storms too. This month has been brutal with the weather. I’ve tried to not plant anything new so far – still waiting on the weather to even out
Your project is coming along so nicely. Don will be so thrilled and amazed. Can’t wait to see the expression on his face when he sees it so have your camera ready!!
Have a wonderful week.
Judy
Claudia says
I promise, Judy. Have a lovely week, my friend.
Janet in Rochester says
Bridal veil spirea. What a perfect name for this plant – that’s exactly what it looks like. PS – watched “The Awful Truth” too. How could a movie that has the talents of Cary Grant, Irene Dunne, Ralph Bellamy AND Leo McCarey miss? Pretty darned near impossible in my book. Have a lovely Sunday…?
Claudia says
It’s one of my all-time favorite movies, Janet. And the doggie who played Asta! Love the hiding the eyes bit. It gets me every time!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
I think we had (may still have??) several of those albums. For a Christmas gift our 2 kids took my husband to a Chicago/ Earth Wind & Fire concert in March. They all loved it. Our kids grew up on that music “back in the day”.
We hit 30* last night, as Donnamae said. ugh. We did cover the Knock Out Rosebush which we just planted a couple of weeks ago, and our 2 yr old Hydrangea which are pretty close to each other. All of the plants I have purchased this year are in the garage. Looks like I am having a plant sale. So far the week shows no night temps of below 40* and into the 70’s by the end of the week. We actually had some snow flurries yesterday afternoon. Unreal.
Claudia says
It is unreal! Mid-May and below freezing temps! Thank goodness it’s going to warm up. It is VERY windy here today. I find it unsettling!
Wendy T says
My husband had the same likes in music as you and Don, Claudia. I have hundreds of his CDs and vinyl. Still, though, can’t play them. Maybe some day I can hear that music without weeping….. I watched Philadelphia Story and His Girl Friday on PBS last night. It was a Ralph Bellamy evening for a lot of us!
Claudia says
Oh, I love His Girl Friday. Another one of my favorites!
It will be a while until you can hear that music, my friend. I understand. xo
Linda @ A La Carte says
How funny we picked out some of the exact same albums! so now you have doubles? I can’t wait to see Don’s face when he gets the TSP! It was cool this morning but sunny and pretty. I love LA Law also, wish I could go back and see the old episodes. I hope your Sunday is restful!
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
Yes, I have doubles, but I don’t mind! The more the merrier, Linda! It’s cold and windy here today. I’m sort of laying low as my sinuses are resenting all these weather changes, as well as all the pollen blowing around!
Nancy Blue Moon says
Poor Henry..thought he was going to have a flowery breakfast and then you caught him..lol..I am also frustrated with this weather..I couldn’t take it anymore last week and went and bought my tomato plants…now I am afraid to plant them…Those mini albums are so cute..maybe you could use the extras as a wall grouping…I love the story about Don…he has had such an interesting life…both of you have!
Claudia says
Between the two of us, we’ve met and worked with a lot of interesting, sometimes famous, people. Ralph Bellamy, according to Don, was a truly nice and kind man. I always like hearing that about a someone I’ve admired from afar.
Vicki says
Well, don’t blow away out there! We’re encased in typical Southern California May Gray overcast, which gets oppressive…although I know once we lose it, the hotter summer will be on us, which I also don’t like. With May Gray or June Gloom, at least to me anyway, the air is so thick and uncomfortable…like, right now, it’s just after 11:30am and we’re in the 70s (it’s not cold and of course it’s higher humidity)…and it’s always sort of a relief when the sun breaks out in the afternoon, with welcome light wind in the valley blowing out all that muck to sea. But, even then, at this time of year, we never get a clear sky. Everybody has their own idea of what’s perfect weather and I’ve yet to find a place that has it!
In your excellent TSP glimpses, I notice how REAL the interior wall looks…like the drywall in my house. In our cottage before the house I’m in now, the walls were plaster and it’s a whole different look and feel, isn’t it.
I loved L.A. Law; it was such a good, hip show. But by 1988, my life had gotten really complicated and busy, so TV kinda went out the window as there just wasn’t enough time to watch. Has Don always been an actor, like since his 20s?
Claudia says
I well remember June Gloom, Vicki. Invariably, that’s when my parents came to visit and my dad would say “Where’s this sunny San Diego weather I keep hearing about??”
Yes, Don has been an actor since he was 19. And a musician since he was a mere kid!
Dawn says
Claudia I was outside adding water to the bird bath today and all of a sudden white stuff was coming from above. At first I thought it was bloom’s blowing off the trees, but nope it was SNOW. I have my flowers covered up with blankets keeping them warm until the temps warm back up a little. I bet you’ll be getting the snow tomorrow :(
Claudia says
I think we could have some flurries, but maybe not, as well. It might be rain. But it’s going down to 37 tonight! I haven’t planted anything other than some seeds. Everything else is a longtime perennial so they should be okay. I’m holding off on the impatiens until tomorrow or Tuesday.
Sheila says
Claudia, I loved reading and am now able to post. Love all the minis for the TSP, etc. Love what you are doing with it and where it is going. I feel like I’m doing it along with you.
And that sweet Linda. She is always thinking of others. Your gifts are so sweet both from her and your other friends.
I’m still minus an ipad and have to borrow on the weekends. I wish I could comment daily, but it is so difficult for me to post on my phone. Just know I’m reading and thinking of you.
We are celebrating my sister making it through open heart surgery (three bypasses and a valve replacement) on her birthday of all days. She is my hero.
On a different note, I gave some seeds to a friend of mine who loves to garden, and she has some morning glory blooms. I hope yours do well for you. Hasn’t this weather been strange? We had cool, cool weather the other night, and almost 90 the next day.
Wish I could see Don in that role. I know he was wonderful.
Hurrying to return this computer!
Hope you get to finish your garden soon. Sunny days and many blooms to you…
xo
Sheila
Claudia says
So happy to hear your sister is doing well, Sheila!
Morning glories don’t start to bloom around here until at least August – sometimes not until September!
Frog Hollow Farm Girl says
Hi Claudia, I love Earth Wind and Fire too…September is my favorite song, how can anyone not get up and dance when that song plays? xxoo
Claudia says
I love September too! It’s such a happy, happy song! My all-time favorite is Way of the World maybe because that’s the first time I was aware of EW&F.
Betsy says
The spiraea bushes are beautiful Claudia. Love all of the albums for that tsp and I’m sure Don will too. The generousity of bloggers and readers of blogs never fails to amaze me. Such nice gifts.
Blessings,
Betsy
Claudia says
I know. What a blessing they are!
Jan says
I owned that Simon and Garfunkel album as a teenager, I used to spend hours listening to them. I wish I had kept it along with all my other albums.
Claudia says
I wish I had taken better care of my hundreds of albums! Too many negative storage conditions – and now, for the most part, they are ruined!
brae says
It’s amazing how just a small stack of LPs can add so much! :D
Claudia says
I know! Susi is going to send me some of her extras from the record shop. Yippee!
