Two foggy mornings in a row.
I love a foggy morning. It’s such a sweetly mysterious way to start the day. If my memory serves, those kind of mornings seem to happen more often as we move into Autumn.
Hurrah! I had my first cup of coffee this morning with half and half. No more black coffee because of the antibiotics. See? My needs are few. But it didn’t taste quite the same to me as the coffee does when Don makes it, so when he got up I asked him about it. Turns out he adds an extra scoop. Ah! Bless him, he made another cup for me and I am happily sipping it while working away on the laptop.
These thistles are growing wild alongside the house. Lucky me!
I’ve decided to treat myself to a trip into NYC tomorrow. I have to buy some material for my work on Hamlet, and what better place to go but my favorite bookstore in the world – The Strand. And, to top it all off, I’m going to Barnes & Noble on the Upper West Side, where Louise Penny will be signing her newest book, The Long Way Home.
I’m so excited! I decided that after being housebound for so long, I deserved a treat and Don agrees wholeheartedly. So I’ll take off in the morning, go to The Strand and spend lots of time there and maybe stop by Anthropologie and then I’ll have a meal somewhere before I head to B &N (early) so that I can be in line for the 7:00 pm event.
All about NYC and books tomorrow. And finding a new pair of readers, since mine broke the other day. I’m wearing an older pair at the moment.
New post up on Just Let Me Finish This Page today. Stop by.
Happy Monday.

Lucky girl! Louise Penny! I have a slight green overtone. Lol
Claudia says
I know! I wasn’t going to go, but heck, why not? I’m very excited.
Chy says
Enjoy your well deserved break! We don’t have Barnes and Noble near our community in Canada but every time we’re in the States, we make a trip to wander the aisles. Great fun!
Claudia says
Thanks, Chy. Looking forward to meeting Louise Penny, but the real bookstore treat will be The Strand.

So glad you’re going, you’ve been cooped up too long. I’ve only been to NYC a few times, but it’s one of my favorite places. You could spend a lifetime and never see everything, big and small, that is fascinating there. I loved your reader’s comment about Borders. We were lucky enough to have one in the next town over for years, and it was my favorite over our local B&N. This store had music every Sunday morning which was a great treat, too. They did such a good business and I was very sad that they closed. Fortunately, tho our B&N is over-run with non-book stuff, the staff are wonderful and the cafe staff are outstanding, so it’s become my hang-out spot.
Have a wonderful day out and enjoy every minute, every sight, every smell, and every hunt for a special book.
BTW, I’ve started The Mockingbird Next door–you’re right, it’s a keeper. Thanks!
Claudia says
So glad you’re enjoying it, Nora!

Love the Strand. We just got back from 4 days in NYC and had a wonderful time. Another great small bookstore is Three Lives & Co in the west Village. Small old bookshop with a lot of great titles. http://www.threelives.com/
Have a lovely time.

Thanks for the link, Julie!

I’ll be sure to blog about it!

Oh, I hope you have a wonderful time, and that there is at least one treasure from Anthropologie which you will share with us. Hours spent in a bookstore can be a great comforter for whatever ails one….. mine is usually in the library, but either way it is with books!!
Enjoy every minute of your day!!
Claudia says
Thanks, Chris!
Donnamae says
Sounds like you have a wonderful day planned for tomorrow! I am just a little bit jealous…Louise Penney (wow). Didn’t want to appear too green with envy! Have a safe trip…can’t wait to hear all about it! ;)
Claudia says
It should be fun!

What a treat after being practically homebound for a while. Hope you have wonderful weather and enjoy every sight and sound. I have never been to NYC but hear it’s an exciting place to spend some time. Getting to meet an author you enjoy so much is sure to be a real treat. Sending good thoughts your way. I know you’ll share your adventure with us and I am looking forward to reading all about it.
Claudia says
Thanks, Janie!

Lucky you! NYC for the day sounds fun and exciting. I love Minneapolis, but NYC gives me chills to think for going there for a day.
Do you really like the thistle or was that sarcasm? It is a beautiful plant, but everyone that I know in MN tries their darnedest to get rid of it. We have even dug a deep hole trying to get the roots and all. No poison for us.
Have tomorrow.
Claudia says
Nope. Not sarcasm, I really think it’s beautiful. I have enough property here that wildflowers are welcome, even thistles.
Susie says
Claudia, Wishing you a good day out. I know you need it. I also hate to be cooped up for long periods. Take care. xoxo,Susie
Claudia says
Thanks, Susie!

Have a wonderful time in NYC. Sounds like you’ll have good weather. Spending the majority of the day in a bookstore sounds like heaven to me. I once had to drop my car off at the dealer for some kind of checkup that would take 4-5 hours. Instead of having the courtesy van take me home [two round trips totalling 80 miles and a major waste of gas to this trying-to-be-greener soul] I asked instead to be driven 3 miles over to the next town [where I went to college] and dropped off at their beautiful new library. Spent nearly the whole day there [8 am to 3 pm] on a little mini-vacation. It was October. I read a lot, worked on my laptop, sat in the shady library garden in the most beautiful Indian Summer air and people-watched. And God bless the individual with the brilliant idea of having a Brueggers’ Bagels directly-attached to the library. Had a delicious breakfast and lunch with myself too – still remember the piping hot butternut squash soup.
Claudia says
That sounds like the perfect way to spend a day, Janet! Heavenly.

Claudia! You and I are having some kind of life convergence thingie going on, with the movies and now this …
David is a runner and he listens to podcasts of Democracy Now or something on NPR while he runs … so he tells me this weekend that he heard this Canadian mystery author on NPR and he really enjoyed her. He said the title of her new book was “The Long Way Home”.
I said “Was it Louise Penny?” But he couldn’t remember. I googled the title and sure enough, Louise Penny.
I know how much you’ve loved her books, I’m so happy you get to have an adventure and get to meet her. Enjoy!
Claudia says
I saw a post on her Facebook page saying she was about to do an interview with NPR. That must have been what David heard.
Melanie says
Foggy mornings lately here, too. Must be because of all the rain and hot temps we’ve had lately. Have a great time in NYC tomorrow!

“Best day ever”, as my nine year old grandson says! Books and a favorite author, lucky lady. And thistles are one of my favorites, too, even though my husband would shake his head when they showed up inside. Have a loverly day.
Debbie in Oregon says
How fun, to be able to “go into New York City for the day” (typed by a jealous west coaster, LOL)! Enjoy your day – and especially your opportunity to meet one of your favorite authors :)
