Opening night was spectacular – such an incredible audience! It really is a “Feel Good” musical. And we all need something like that right about now. Lots of press everywhere and Jimmy was in attendance and came out for the curtain call, leading the audience in “I Will Play for Gumbo” and “Margaritaville.” There was a party afterwards and we didn’t get home until 1 in the morning. Needless to say, I was too hyped to fall asleep in a timely manner, so I’m suffering today.
Good news: no more rehearsals and/or notes until they start up again in NYC in January, so I can finally do some exploring and adventuring with my husband. When we were in New Orleans, he was rehearsing every day. So, this opportunity for time together is welcome.
My walk to the theater. Isn’t it lovely?
Tourists standing on the top of a tour boat in the rain. Bless their fortitude.
Imagine my delight when I walked around a corner near the theater and found this!
Of course, I bought two cupcakes – one for me and one for Don.
Tile floors near the counter. I love this retro style.
Don’t you love this fan? I’ve never see anything like it.
I had WiFi problems yesterday which have – hopefully – been ironed out. I’m writing this on Thursday but it will be posted on Friday. Thanks so much for your patience.
Happy Friday.

That floor in Magnolia bakery would look lovely in your bathroom…just saying. That night time shot by the river is stunning…love Chicago at night. Happy to hear opening was a hit…I wouldn’t have expected anything less. Enjoy your free time with Don! ;)

Just wanted to let you know that we have tickets for Nov. 29th. Much as Don needs some time off we’re hoping that we can see him on stage then. I think Woody’s sister is planning on being there too. We’re really excited.
Claudia says
Yay! I won’t be here but I told Don you’re coming. Just keep in touch with me and when the time comes I’ll tell you how to get to the Stage Door and you guys can meet up with Don after the show! He’ll be there!

Claudia, Glad you have time with Don to explore. A bakery is an idea place to start! Your foray to New Orleans and now to Chicago have given me an itch to see both cities.
Claudia says
They are wonderful cities – entirely different, both of them very alive and exciting.

I love that walk as well. I always stop on the bridges and watch the water at night. It’s beautiful.

I was in downtown Chicago Thursday – unfortunately I was at Northwestern Medical to see my Dr. so the only sightseeing I was able to do was from the taxi on the way home.
Love your photos!!
Claudia says
Darn it!

More terrific city pix – am loving YOUR visit to Chicago. Great news about opening night too – does it really happen the way it’s shown in the movies? People up until all hours waiting for the critics’ reviews in the papers? Or do I just watch too much TCM?? LOL. Sending Don a virtual huge bundle of flowers on his opening night – bravo, sir! Next stop, the Great White Way… 💐Peace.

No, no one sits up after opening and waits for reviews. That used to be the case many years ago, but now reviewers come to see the show before opening and they all come out at different times. We never read reviews and with this show, they don’t matter. If a reviewer doesn’t get Jimmy Buffett and Parrotheads, they most likely won’t be a fan of the show.
