Opening Night, A Dollhouse Shop & Scarves For a Cause

June 28, 2009 at 2:33 pm by Claudia

Cyrano de Bergerac opened last night and is a resounding success. What an absolutely beautiful production, in every way – costumes, set design, sound, lighting, music – and if I may say, beautifully spoken. It helps to have an outstanding Cyrano. We do. And to be perfectly honest, I didn’t have to do too much in the way of coaching him. He is a wonderful actor with an amazing voice. My colleague has directed it beautifully.

Everyone who works on each production always gets a single long-stemmed rose on Opening Night. The brilliant costume designer gave me a copy of one of her designs, another wonderful colleague gave me a plume, handkerchief and a lovely quote – all of which figure in the play. One opening down, two to go. Then I fly home.

I found the most amazing dollhouse/miniature shop the other day: Miss Peggie’s Place – located in Pacific Beach. Why oh why can’t I plop this place down in upstate New York? I could have gone nuts there but was saved by three facts: I haven’t even seen my dollhouse in person, I already have too much to pack and I do not want to spend too much at present. I did buy this mini sewing basket because I fell in love with it ~ and I plan to have a craft/sewing room in the dollhouse (since there is no room for one in the cottage.) Isn’t it sweet?

Miss Peggie’s Place has been in the same location for over 30 years! Miss Peggie ran it for most of that time until it became too much for her. She died a few years ago and there is a new owner. I lived here for 8 years but wasn’t into the dollhouse thing then or I would have been there all the time.

These are the scarves I decorated for Design Gives Back at Kelee’s blog. I used scraps from the Quilt Along quilt and cut out circles with pinking shears. Then I glued them on with fabric glue, sent them home to MHC and my husband took a couple of photos of the dogs in their new scarves. It is such a great cause. Just click on the link and you can read all about it.

Don tells me the dogs wouldn’t stay still – they had just had a walk (hence Scout’s pink-rimmed eyes – she was excited) but I think they look pretty cute!

Have a great Sunday!

Ah, the puppies look so happy with their new scarves!!!

What lovely momentos of opening night!

What a wonderful sewing basket!!! Well, minis don’t take up much room if you want to buy more goodies, LOL!

Claudia, you may already know this but here is a listing of miniature shops in the New York area. Of course you may want to double check before you go to some of them as I don’t know how up to date the list is.

I don’t know if any will be close to you. House of Miniatures and Eileen Godfrey carry high end miniatures. I’m not positive, but I think Eileen acquired Sandi Dawson’s miniatures when Sandi passed away, but I may be mistaken so don’t quote me on that. Sandi had outstanding miniatures for sale!

Mrs. Vandersnoot says thank you. She’s pleased you like her outfit :) She’s very particular about what she wears :)

    Hugs, Marsha

The scarves are gorgeous and I’ll be sure to check out the site.

Love your little sewing box . . . it’s so sweet! I can’t wait to head out on our trip to Texas, I plan on visiting a lot of doll shops along the way (might have to take something to knock out the hubby though! LOL!!).

    Take care,
    Teresa

    Hi Claudia,
Your pooches make fab models, so cute! Glad to hear Cyrano went well. A doll house shop? I’d be there all day looking, how fun for you. The basket is darling, can’t wait to see it in your house.

Claudia, Ah there is nothing like opening night. I would love to talk to your costume designer. After designing so many costumes, it is always fun to talk to another “one”. I know you are so anxious to be home to the cottage. I’ve got to get my photos sent to Kelee..mine will be on a ferret! Thank you for the lovely anniversary wishes and sharing your wedding day memories too! xo rachel

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
