A Sunday Drive

Sunday was such a beautiful Autumn day. My husband and I took a drive to a neighboring town and were treated to gorgeous colors at every turn. There is something about the golden light of Autumn and the changing leaves that is so glorious. I never get tired of it.

We had such a nice day ‘away.’ A nice lunch at a great restaurant, a visit to an antique store, and a walk down a country road – you can’t beat it.

The main road through our town is being re-paved and all the trucks seemed to be parked at the end of our road. So we are now being treated to the ‘beep beep beep’ of trucks backing up all day long. That sound doesn’t quite fit in with my idyllic Autumn picture. Oh well.

Hanging Photos on the Line

Remember my design wall in the upstairs hallway? I had my little quilt hanging there, but I decided to drape it over the railing. Every time I had to turn the hall light off, I had to reach under the quilt. It became slightly annoying. Unfortunately, since I am not piecing a quilt at the moment, the flannel-covered design wall is just plain boring. I got an idea and here’s what I have so far.

We have a lot of family photos and very little wall space to display them. Plus, I’m not up to getting them all framed at the moment. So, I strung some twine, got out some photos and hung them with clothespins. I’d give you a better view, but it is a work-in-progress. And taking any photos of this area is tricky – I have to go down the stairs and shoot up. Never works quite right. You can see my husband and me – side by side – at about the same age, my husband with his Dad, my Mom, my Grandfather with his horse bit collection, my Dad with his father when Dad was serving in WWII, our dear dog Winston with his favorite ball, my husband with our sweet friend Kelly, who was taken from us much too young.

I’ve always loved this studio portrait of my Mom pouring tea. I have that dress she has on, by the way. It is a beautiful shade of aqua. Look at her banana curls…adorable. Oh, do you recognize that pink clothespin? It is from sweet Elyse.

I am on the hunt for more photos that I will string up on a piece of twine that hangs below this one – like a necklace. Who knows how many I will end up with? I’ll keep you posted.

On my way home from Wilmington, tired and under-the-weather as I was, I stopped at Trader Joe’s for a quick shopping run. TJ’s is about an hour away from my house so we don’t get down there very often. When one of us is in the vicinity, we have to stop. I bought some essentials and these flowers. Also an essential.

Yesterday’s endless rain has turned into today’s spectacular sunny fall weather. Have a wonderful Sunday.

Pink Saturday

A while back I asked Connie of Living Beautifully where she had found the slipcovers she had on her office chairs. She graciously gave me the website – Cherry Blossom Cottage – and I bookmarked it, hoping to order one someday. I eventually tried to order one particular slipcover but it was gone by the time I got around to it. Time passed and when I went to visit the site, it was no longer there. I assumed it was no longer in business.

Not long after this, I won a giveaway at my friend Donna’s blog, An Enchanted Cottage. Donna had several fabric pumpkins of her own and as the giveaway winner, I got to choose some fabric pumpkins from Ronda’s (the designer) website – Tempting Textiles. Then Donna said Tempting Textiles used to be Cherry Blossom Cottage. Ah! Are you still with me? I ordered my pumpkins and also ordered a slipcover for my office chair. And it is pink!

Isn’t it a pretty pink slipcover? Ronda does lovely work and I couldn’t be happier. It goes nicely in my sewing area. And it makes me smile.
