I’ll have a Stack of Wreaths, Please

December 8, 2009 at 4:45 pm by Claudia

Bottlebrush anything for Christmas and I’m there. Look what I found today! Several weeks ago, Dawn of The Gahan Girls wrote about finding these wreaths at Big Lots. Today I happened to drive by the one Big Lots I know of around here, so I ran into the store. After much scrounging around, I found a total of 4 of these (all in different display areas, I might add.) I really thought there was very little hope there would still be some available. I think I snagged the last 4. Aren’t they pretty?

I bought some more ribbon and I’m going to hang them in the kitchen and living room windows. Love, love them!

We will be trekking out to get the Christmas tree either Wednesday or Thursday. Thursday is the deadline, as I told my husband earlier today.

Have a great day.

Knitting and a Present

December 7, 2009 at 6:14 pm by Claudia

Do you ever have days that seem gray and ‘blah’ for want of a better word? Today was one of those days. I had thought of all sorts of errands I should run – was planning on tackling them early in the day – but I just couldn’t get motivated enough to do them. It was gray and cold and cloudy here. All day. I’d better get used to it, because there will be many more to come this winter.

Some of you might remember a post where I showed this:

It is a scarf I’m knitting out of Noro yarn. Alas, it hasn’t progressed much with all the other distractions going on here. I pulled it out yesterday and started working on it again. I love this colorway of self-striping yarn. The pattern is one my sister showed me over a year ago.

Try as I might, I can’t get the photograph true to color. The salmon color is more of a raspberry and the blue is deeper with more aqua in it. Perhaps I left it too late in the day to photograph properly. I’ll try again when I have completed more of it – and in the daylight.

My day brightened considerably when I found this in the mail:

I won a giveaway at Loveleigh Treasures. Sares is a wonderful person, with a beautiful blog. She had a giveaway and the winners got a Christmas movie. I picked my favorite. Shall we see what it is?

It’s a Wonderful Life
! That sweet Sares added some hot chocolate and popcorn – perfect for a December evening. Thank you, Sares…we love having our own commercial-free copy of this great movie. I’m a big Frank Capra fan, by the way. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, It Happened One Night…they are some of my all-time favorites. They all make me cry – no matter how many times I’ve watched them.

Right after I posted this, husband and I discovered that It Happened One Night was on TCM that evening! We watched it, of course.

Snow

December 6, 2009 at 9:39 am by Claudia

As I vowed to on Friday, I cleaned off the porch and stored everything in the shed. Not a moment too soon! That night, the weather report said our first snowfall was due on Saturday. Big, fat snowflakes fell and we were treated to our first glimpse of winter. This particular snowfall was very wet and only an inch of snow accumulated. Perfect. No shoveling.

This morning as I was letting the dogs outside, I took this photo of the sun rising through our trees.

Then I took this one:

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
