Pink Saturday

August 7, 2009 at 9:51 pm by Claudia

Hello to everyone on this August Pink Saturday! Please stop by How Sweet the Sound, Beverly’s blog, to see a list of everyone participating. Beverly, thank you for all the time you put in to make this event so successful.

How about a little pink and green this week? A trip to the Berkshires, it must be over 11 years ago, led to this little treasure. In a tiny little shop, I came across a hat that I loved and I needed something in which to carry it home on the plane. In another little shop I found this:

A vintage hat box. I fell in love with it. It is covered in the sweetest pink and green pattern. Aren’t those pink flowers beautiful?

This is the lid – the handle is made out of wood and painted green. This hat box sits on a bookshelf by my bed….I wonder what’s inside?

I cannot tell a lie – I forgot these were in the box! I started crocheting some squares with some beautiful Debbie Bliss yarn and promptly forgot about them. Hmmm…I see a little project that needs to be re-started.

Finally, a close-up of my spirea. I am enthralled by intricacy of this bloom. Truly beautiful.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Little House in the Den

August 6, 2009 at 6:37 pm by Claudia

It’s still here – my dollhouse. It’s sitting in a corner of the den. I won’t have any time to do anything with it until fall. But I look at it every day, while I sit in my chair and blog or watch TV. It needs a lot of work because its rather the worse for wear. The shingles need replacing, the outside needs a fresh coat of paint, I want to replace the shutters, and whoever assembled the house didn’t do such a wonderful job with the upstairs windows…they are crooked. And the inside is totally unfinished. Despite its flaws, I love it. Or maybe because of its flaws, I love it. Mockingbird Hill Cottage has a lot of irregularities. After all, it was built in 1891. Some of the windows here are slightly crooked, too.

Oh, and the front door won’t stay shut. I have no idea how to do anything. I’m reading a lot about dollhouses and everything to do with them. My blogging friends who are miniaturists inspire me every day. So when the days cool off and I start to spend more time indoors, I will be getting to work on this sweet, imperfect dollhouse.

Basket of Flowers

August 5, 2009 at 3:00 pm by Claudia

Do you remember my basket? I found it when I was in San Diego. Here is its new home. I took a trip to IKEA yesterday with Heidi and her daughters. Heidi’s eldest daughter is going to be an Resident Advisor at her university. She wanted to decorate her room. What better place than IKEA? We were in there over 3 hours…but she ended up with some great buys. On the way back we stopped at….be still my heart….Trader Joe’s. I’ve missed it so much! This TJs is the closest one to us – a car ride of over an hour. I bought a few things, including this bouquet. You can’t beat the price. I decided to photograph it today…oh, wait a minute, someone else would like to be included in the photo. She is posing.

She has a flair for the drama, just like her Mama. Look at her, gazing wistfully toward the front door. It brings a tear to your eye, doesn’t it? Miss Scout, Oscar-winning actress. At least she thinks so.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
