Back from San Diego

May 6, 2008 at 9:10 am by Claudia

I arrived back from San Diego late Sunday night. I had a wonderful time. I coach voice, speech and dialects for the theatre and this trip brought me back to our former home and my former employer. I was working on three Shakespeare plays to be produced this summer and the days were long but envigorating. This was the surrounding scenery:

I got to see some old friends, some who work at the theatre and some who are there as actors in the Shakespeare. Besides the work, the thing I most remember is laughing like crazy. Laughter really is the most wonderful thing, It makes the shoulders drop, shooing away tension and worries.

I walked from my hotel to the theatre every day and passed beautiful flowers:

I passed the dog park where my dogs used to frolic and which now has a fence around it. How that would have saved me from freaking out when my dog Winston used to take off and run down into the canyon because he “smelled” some critter!
Now the fence goes all the way around the park and keeps the dogs in.

This beautiful fountain was right outside the door to the rehearsal rooms:

And last, but not least, the Pacific Ocean! This is what I miss most about San Diego – I love where we live now with all my heart, but if we could just plop the Pacific Ocean down right here in upstate New York it would be PERFECT!!!

I have more photos which I will post in the next few days. I go back to San Diego in June for 10 days. Right now I am just happy to be home with my husband and my dogs. And, I get to garden!

More later.

Off to San Diego

April 21, 2008 at 11:20 am by Claudia

I fly out today to the West Coast, but the day started out with an emergency trip to the dentist! What started out last week as some pain in various upper and lower teeth finally intensified in one back molar. I spent part of the day yesterday in quite a bit of pain. We alerted our wonderful dentist that we would be coming in first thing this morning and he was ready for me. I am a big chicken and hate the thought of sitting in the dentist chair. He understands me and is very gentle. Turns out I will have to have a root canal when I return from California. Oh joy. But he drained the infection and took care of the tooth so that I can do my work pain-free. Thank goodness. That is a huge relief for me.

So now I am back at home but will be leaving for the airport soon. I’ll miss my husband and my dogs and this blog but will be back before you know it!

Spring

April 18, 2008 at 4:42 pm by Claudia

When I posted last week, this little daffodil had not opened. There she is! There is only one so far, but there will be more. I also have another type of daffodil in the shade garden that has yet to show herself. Spring has sprung here. The past few days have been unusually warm, and I see the Hostas, day lilies, and many others pushing their way up through the soil.

Here is a glimpse of the forsythia that blooms in the woods on our property. I love that fiery yellow.

And here is a picture of one of our Catalpa trees right by our drive. This hole is home to a group of honey bees that return annually. With all the worry about colony collapse, I was glad to see them back. Unfortunately, this photo doesn’t show them flying in and out, but they are.

Hope your week has been a good one. I am going out of town for two weeks on business Monday. Unfortunately, I don’t have a laptop, so I will be unable to post. But I will take pictures and share them with you when I get back. I’m sure the garden will have really taken off while I’m gone!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
