We are far apart, but my love for you knows no boundaries. Know that you are loved deeply and completely. Hopefully, our little Skype experiment tonight will work and I will see your faces on my computer! Everyone cross your fingers!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you out there in blogland. I hope this day is full of love and happiness for you and yours. I am going to a Valentine Party at Vignettes, a charming shop in Ocean Beach. If I can, I will take some photos so that you can see some of the beautiful displays in this shop.

Random Thoughts

I have nothing profound to share with you today, but then again, I’m not sure if I’ve ever said anything profound on this blog. Maybe I have. I’ve been busy – teaching, coaching, doing prep work for classes. I have just learned I have to work on yet another show this week and I am waiting to hear what dialect the director wants me to coach. Sometimes I feel like I am juggling a lot of balls and not doing such a great job of it. The thing about teaching, at least for me, is that some days it seems to be effortless; everything goes smoothly, the students are attentive and calm and I seem to breeze through the day. Other days, it is like pulling teeth; one has to deal with emotional students, tired students, giggly students (yes, even at the graduate school level – of course, this is acting school so there is a bit more leeway for shows of emotion), or I am tired, or cranky or dehydrated. It can be exhausting. Yesterday was exhausting. Today was better. Tomorrow I have a faculty meeting, teaching and work in the evening on “The Greeks”.

Saturday is Valentine’s Day and I am far away from my sweetheart. But we’ve been through this before. The fact is that we tell each other we love each other several times a day – every day is Valentine’s Day!

I know I have blog readers from Australia and I am so saddened and horrified by the fires in your country. My heart goes out to you at this terrible time. Words always seem woefully inadequate at times like these, but I send my love and prayers to you and yours.

Sewing on a Featherweight

Yes, I dream of owning a Featherweight (hence the dreamy picture) but I don’t own one yet. But I am lucky enough to have a friend here who has one. She has graciously offered its use while I am staying here. This particular Featherweight was her grandmother’s, so I am very honored that she trusts me with it. I finally had a bit of time today to figure out how to thread it and do some sewing. I am sewing the squares of my quilt together. This will take a long while because there are many, many of them. If my piecing skills matched the beauty of the Featherweight, all would be well. Nevertheless, it was nice to spend some time at the machine today. Thank you, Ingrid. Ingrid and I have known each other for many years. She used to work in the Costume Dept. at the Theater. She also altered my wedding gown so that I could breathe on my wedding day!

Classes are going very well. I’ve been teaching for 3 weeks now and the students are really lovely-talented, funny, smart and eager to learn. I find I have slipped back into teaching much more easily than I had feared. I’m even enjoying it. Who would have thought it? One of the most rewarding parts of this work has always been my relationship with the students. I’m still in touch with many former students, and now thanks to Facebook, even more! I’m also coaching my current students in a production of The Greeks. All of this keeps me very busy and that is a blessing. When I do have some free time, I get very homesick and miss Don and the dogs so much it hurts. But I am grateful and thankful for this opportunity to work with the students and get to know them.
