New Treasures

March 3, 2008 at 4:56 pm by Claudia

I am lucky enough to work part-time at a local home and antique shop. The owner is a friend of mine who is enormously talented. She can arrange and display merchandise in such a wonderful way that every customer who comes in raves about the shop. I see lots of neat treasures all the time and manage to resist temptation. However, when this table came in I wasted no time in letting my friend know that I wanted it. She had other plans for it, but my heart was set on it. I hung in there until she realized that I was like a dog with a bone and she gave in – very graciously, I might add. Today we brought it home. Its a round table like many others, but I fell in love with the legs. I don’t know how well you can see them, but I love their curvy lines. The table also has two leaves, so we can have a nice group over for dinner. Our previous table was a primitive green work table that we have moved up to our office. We are very happy with our new addition. (Please excuse the slightly crooked photo.)

We also go to a lot of auctions. This is my newest McCoy vase that I won at auction the other night. Isn’t it lovely? Its called the “Strap Vase.”

Have a happy Monday!

Dreams of Spring

February 29, 2008 at 6:51 pm by Claudia

These are daffodils from last year’s garden. I have resorted to posting this photo because we are getting MORE SNOW tonight and into tomorrow! The last prediction I heard was 4-6 inches. We are trying not to be too depressed, but we have had our fill.

Spring cannot come soon enough. It is supposed to warm up next week, but in the meantime – more shoveling, more salt.

Are the rest of you dreaming of spring? For some reason this particular winter has been a bit harder to bear than most. The wonderful thing is that as soon as the air begins to feel spring-like and the first buds are revealing themselves, all will be forgiven and forgotten. That is what is amazing about the seasons. Soon enough we will be cleaning up the garden, adding compost, planting, happily puttering away.

I must be patient.

Tagged

I’ve been tagged by Hope. I’m to list 7 random things about me – its surprisingly hard to do. Maybe I’m over thinking it! Anyway, as I’m new to blogging, I won’t tag anyone this time around, but will provide the list.

  1. I can’t watch any movie or TV show where an animal is in trouble, or ill, or lost. It doesn’t matter that I know its fiction – can’t do it. I start to cry and can’t get it out of my mind.
  2. I’m tall (just under 5’9″) and grew 6 inches in one school year. I entered the 7th grade at 5’1″ and was 5’7″ at the end of school year.
  3. I love chocolate – all chocolate – especially Mallomars. But the chocolate cannot have any nuts in it.
  4. I stayed single for many, many years and had no desire to marry until I met my husband when I was 41. When I met the right guy, marriage seemed like the best thing in the world – and it is.
  5. I seem to draw lost dogs to me. I have rescued many dogs and returned them to their owners.
  6. I hate to cook, but love to bake. Luckily, my husband likes to cook more than me!
  7. I have a fear of heights and am definitely claustrophobic!

There you go – hope you have a great day!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
