Christmas Sweaters

December 7, 2022 at 8:50 am by Claudia

Two dark and rainy days in a row. Thank goodness for Christmas trees covered in lights! I’m grateful for the rain, but that’s enough, thank you.

Thrilled that Raphael Warnock won in Georgia. Thrilled that Zelenskyy is Time’s Person of the Year. We stayed up too late watching election returns. But I’m glad we did.

Today’s Christmas update involves two more sweater ornaments transformed into sweaters for the girls. First up, Holly:

Holly is wearing a sweater from Kohl’s.  I have another one like this but I still have to open the neckline in the back.

Isn’t this sweater neat? Holly has to be our Christmas girl, given her name.

Next? Maeve.

Maeve is wearing the Target sweater in white.  (That’s her pull ring showing between her legs!) So far, the Target sweaters fit the best, but I must say I like the oversized look of the others, as well.

I glued more ornaments on the tree for Dove Cottage. I’ll put it back in the cottage today and try to take some photos – but given the darkness of the day, my efforts may be futile.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Tree: Decorated

December 6, 2022 at 9:24 am by Claudia

Flu shots: check.

A slightly sore arm last night, no soreness this morning. No side effects.

Decorating the tree: check.

Here it is:

I’ll take some more photos later.

Monty looks pleased.

Meanwhile, some girls were a little put out. They were basically ignored all day long and were not included in the decorating the tree. Oh boy. I must apologize.

Today, we’re going to take it easy. I have a little more decorating to do. The little white tree is in the den (that’s the one I bought when I had to be out of town in Hartford during the holidays.) The little aqua tree is on the table by Don’s mini studio. I’ve begun to set up the little putz house village. And I have to glue more ornaments on the mini Christmas tree in Dove Cottage.

I love our tree this year. Of course, I love every Christmas tree that is brought into this house. And as I sit here in the den, I see the lights and ornaments on the rear of the tree. So both Don and I get to enjoy it – one of us in the living room, the other in the den.

Stay safe.

Happy Tuesday.

Let There Be Light

December 5, 2022 at 8:36 am by Claudia

A little trip to Target yesterday morning and there were no lights in stock. None. They go so quickly! But we did get a few other things because when you’re at Target, that’s what you do. Then we drove down the street to Michael’s. I needed to buy a couple of picks. I remove the sparkly little balls and glue them to my mini Christmas trees. Lo and behold, Michael’s had plenty of lights.

Then, of course, it was on to Five Guys where we ate fries while sitting in the car people watching. I couldn’t finish them, of course, there are always too many. And the server was over generous with the salt. But they are the BEST fries in the world and the indulgence is worth it, as long as it only happens every few months.

Back home, strands of lights already on the tree were adjusted a bit and a new strand was added:

Much better.

This year’s tree skirt is a vintage barkcloth curtain panel. I love barkcloth and I like using something that isn’t the standard Christmas skirt.

Today we’re finally getting our flu shots – this morning, in fact – and then we’ll come home and decorate the tree.

I cannot tell you how much I love seeing the lights on the tree. Especially this year.

I’ve already decorated two of the dollhouses, though I want to add some ‘bulbs’ to the tree in Dove Cottage – which is why I needed to stop at Michael’s. I ran out of them last year when I was making the tree, so I never fully finished it.

I’m also thinking that the vintage dollhouse on top of the cabinet in the den needs a tree. Even though it isn’t the best match for the dark wood and lake cottage kind of decor, I do have a fully decorated modern tree that I used to use in the modern dollhouse. I think I’ll put it in there.

Lots of life-sized and mini decorating to do and, eventually, I’ll share it with you.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
