Mockingbird Hill Cottage

It seems like it was only a few days ago that the tips of all the hostas emerged from the ground. Boy, oh boy, has everything taken off in the last week! Green, green, green.

And it has finally stopped raining – at least for a couple of days. I can hear the sound of the rushing river across the street. We got a LOT of rain. And the two people who reside in this house were sick and tired of gray skies and constant rain. However, our water table is happy, which means our well is happy. And all of the grass and trees and plants are very happy, indeed.

There isn’t a whole lot to tell you about as we were stuck indoors. I washed the sheets, vacuumed, cleaned, and read. Don played his guitar, made an apple pie, and ran errands. We watched old movies at night.

I don’t know how long it will take before we can attempt to mow. Certainly not until this afternoon. More likely, tomorrow. The grass is quite long even in the corral which I mowed on Saturday. You know I’m just itching to get going, but I also don’t want the lawnmower to clog. So we’ll check in on the wetness this afternoon.

Jessie on a rainy day. We had to stay on the porch, of course, but she looks rather spring-like, don’t you think? I have another Little Keiko head that I’m going to work on soon. I’ll be painting another faceup. The wig and eyes are in the mail. But she’ll need a body. I usually order from a shop in Spain, but I’m a little worried about the increase in price due to tariffs. I will have to contact them to find out the price difference and/or find another source here in the States.

A little peek at things on the porch.

We are in a stretch of rain-filled days. This morning I looked at the weather app and they’ve added an additional day of rain. It looks like we won’t get a chance to mow until the end of the week and that means the grass will be VERY long. I did sneak in a mow of the corral and back forty on Saturday. Shouldn’t have done it, as I wasn’t feeling well, but I did. However, I did take it easy yesterday and it looks like I’ll have no choice but to do the same for most of this week. The gray skies and endless rain are depressing, but I will say that the “green” out there is very intense and beautiful.

We watched Poltergeist  the other night. I hadn’t seen it since it first came out, so it was almost as if I was seeing it for the first time. It’s so good! Though it’s kind of a period movie now, unlike other movies made in the early 80s, the time setting doesn’t reduce its impact. It’s full of powerful performances, not the least of which is that of Jobeth Williams. She is extraordinary. Anyway, I was riveted. I actually had to leave my chair and go sit with Don so he could ‘protect’ me. It was on TCM.

The same talented seamstress that made this dress for Ruby also sent her a bucket hat.

I mean, how adorable is that?

As you can see, I’m getting a wee bit back into the dolls, but it’s hard to get motivated given what’s going on in the real world. I have to force myself to take a picture of them. Or redress them. A couple girls still have their winter sweaters on. Bad mom!
