Day Two Hundred Forty-Eight

November 16, 2020 at 9:14 am by Claudia

Late last night we decided to cancel the dumpster (probably because we were tired and I was still under the weather and it was cold and we had a major wind/thunderstorm come through) and figured we’d tackle it in the spring. But I had some qualms, knowing we might not get to it in the spring with all the other chores needing attention. Nevertheless, Don called and left a message, apologizing for the late cancellation.

This morning he felt differently. Thought we should get it done. So he called the guy again, who, magically, hadn’t heard the voice mail. So the dumpster would have arrived anyway. It will be here soon. It’s definitely going to be cold this week, but the nice thing about having it for an entire week is that we don’t have to spend all day out there.

Sometimes we are guilty of waffling about a decision.

That storm last night? I went out on the porch (it was dark) to take the hanging plants down as the wind was suddenly scary. I’ve never been through anything like it – the wind was so intense that the rain was coming in sideways – right onto the porch. I couldn’t see, I could hardly move, and I got completely soaked, all within about 3 minutes. Wow.

So here we are, about to look into boxes. Some of them I’ll just get rid of,  like the ones full of records. Even though it breaks my heart, they are warped and worthless, so I’ll have to be ruthless and toss them. Other boxes will have to be gone through. There’s an old box spring in there – what were we thinking? We didn’t know about the prevalence of field mice in those early days. And a rusty shelf unit. And lord knows what else!

It will be good to have something keeping us busy as the OM insanely tweets from the White House and Quack Doctor Scott Atlas incites violence against the Governor of Michigan.

I propose changing the rules. When a new President is elected, he moves into the WH within 2 weeks. A fast and efficient transition.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

Day Two Hundred Forty-Seven

November 15, 2020 at 9:10 am by Claudia

No more leaves on the burning bush, but there are lots of berries for the birds.

I’m crossing my fingers at the moment as we had a frost last night and I’m hoping my porch plants are still hanging in there. They may not be. Truth be told, if it’s time for them to move on, so be it. I’m a bit under the weather with sinus problems so I don’t have a whole lot of energy to care and it is  mid-November, after all.

Sinus = feels like a cold, but isn’t.

So this post will be on the short side.

Tomorrow, the dumpster arrives and we’ll start in on the shed on Tuesday. What a job that will be! But so satisfying in the end.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Day Two Hundred Forty-Six

November 14, 2020 at 9:56 am by Claudia

Late in the day yesterday, the sun came out. We were quite happy to see it.

I walked down to the mailbox and then, on my way back, I took this picture.

Today is also sunny, we’ll get some rain tomorrow and then, for the rest of the week, colder temps with a fairly dry stretch which will free us up to clean out the shed. Whoo hoo!

I was immersed in some household chores yesterday. Later, when the sun came out, I had the urge to photograph the dollhouse. The office/studio gets strong late day sun, so I turned the house around so that the interior faced the windows. I added a few accessories here and there -just as filler – in order for me to see stuff, if you know what I mean.

Heavens, I love playing house with my dollhouse projects!

Taking photos of miniatures and dollhouse interiors is notoriously difficult, but cell phones have made it easier. Nevertheless, you have to shove the phone inside the room and pray that you get a realistic and detailed close-up.

You’ll be happy to know that seeing these photos this morning has convinced me that this was the right wallpaper choice. I really like it now.

I’m still not sure how to finish the island. I have to deal with that soon. What color? I’m trying to use what I have on hand. For instance, the beams were made with scrap wood that I had in my stash and the number of beams was determined by the available wood. I painted the ceiling with paint that I had on hand and the stain for the floors was used in Hummingbird Cottage. Likewise, the trim paint used on the windows and doors was in my stash.

I’ve ordered some plates from Sofia at Twelve Times More Teeny, an Etsy shop. She makes them to order, so it will be while until I see them in the mail. I ordered several pieces from her for Hummingbird Cottage and, thankfully, she’s still selling on Etsy. Several miniaturists that I have ordered from in the past are no longer there and that makes me sad.

Okay, friends. I’m going to get going here. I think I’ll take a nice walk in our woods today.

306 Electoral Votes. Enough said.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
