Painting

October 4, 2010 at 6:53 pm by Claudia

Forecast: 3 days of rain. What better time to start painting the kitchen table? I bought some more paint today (Ivory White by Benjamin Moore) and some primer. By the time I went to the hardware store, the post office, the bank and the grocery store, my starting time had been delayed a few hours. The first coat of primer is on.

I wish the light was better. However, this gives you an idea of how it will look. Tomorrow another coat of primer goes on and then I’ll be ready to paint it (Ivory White is the same color I used on the kitchen island.) Husband already remarked on how much better it looks – I agree.

I received a package in the mail today from my friend Tracie of My Petite Maison. I had mentioned in  a comment that I can never find white pumpkins here…so she sent me some! She also sent along some sunflower seeds for my garden and some lavender.

I have to say that I really love white pumpkins and prefer them to the traditional orange color. Gosh darn it – I wish the table was already painted because I can envision them in a pretty vignette in the center of the table. More reason to get a move on! Thank you, Tracie; you are such a sweetheart.

It’s 6:30 pm as I write this and it’s already dark outside! Do not like.

The table looks great so far. I too can see the white pumpkins in the centerpiece for it. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the photo.Keep going. Looking good!

I love the table and it will look great in the white. I want one like it for our kitchen but my hubby is resisiting change.. surprise, surprise! It is dark here already too and I am not a big fan. I would love fall so much more if it wasn’t closely followed by winter!

I am having a difficult time adjusting to the earlier dusk, also. It will be even worse when the time changes in a few weeks. Your “new” white table will brighten up things for you, though! I also adore the white pumpkins, but orange will always hold a special spot, too!

Oh yeah, the thing about it getting so dark up there so early; that was the hardest thing for my daughters to get used to when they moved to the NE. Otherwise they love it.

Yay! on getting started on the table painting! It will look super with the white pumpkins – what a sweet gift. And I agree, dark at 6:30 (7:30 here now) is no good at all. Counting the days to the solstice. :) xo – g

Hi Claudia, yes, it’s been raining here as well – keeping me indoors working on projects and studying. As far as the earlier darkness I’ve always liked it!! It makes me feel cozier and slows things down a bit, in my head at least.

I already love how the table is turnng out. Can you tell me the kind of finish that was on the wood and what you did to prep it? I’m so impatient sometimes and don’t take the time to prep certain pieces for painting.
    Ciao, bella!

Oh my gosh, Claudia.. I just recently bought a new bed coverlet and sheets set, and of course need to totally redecorate my ENTIRE BEDROOM now!!.. So I stopped to ask about some paint for possibly my headboard and a dresser.. And the guy gave me a quote of $58.00 for a gallon of PAINT?!!!… WHAT?!! I couldn’t believe my ears! So far I’m thinking I should look elsewhere?? Yes? No??… Anyways, I can’t wait to see how your table comes out! ~tina

Curious now about white pumpkin, is the inside orange still? and do you eat it.
We use all varieties of pumpkins, squashes etc for eating only, I have never used it for decorating

Good for you for finding the motivation to paint while it’s raining. All I want to do is curl up and read a book. I bought paint to paint an antique chest. Maybe I’ll get mine painted too!

Nothing is safe from the paintbrush in my house at the moment (big or small, lol!), must be because it’s spring here!

What a gorgeous, and big, table you’re tackling. I can see how your back would be sore. That’s a lot of work, but I know it is going to be gorgeous. Oh, oh, oh, I haven’t been able to find white pumpkins either. I’ve looked all over and there simply are none here. I’m going to the farmer’s market tomorrow and hopefully may find some there. Love yours and what a special friend to send them to you. ♥

I like white pumpkins better too – also gray. I painted some orange ones white last year -so that’s an idea if you need a larger white one. Very sweet of her to send you those little ones! The table will look gorgeous when it’s done!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
